Jannat Se Aagey Unmasks the Morning Show Madness With Intriguing Teasers

Jannet se aagay teasers

The upcoming Geo TV drama, “Jannat Se Aagey,” has sent waves of excitement among audiences, thanks to its gripping teasers that peel back the layers of morning show culture and the ruthless world of television. Starring the talented Kubra Khan alongside Ramsha Khan, Talha Chahour, and Gohar Rasheed, the drama promises an eye-opening experience as it explores the dark reality of morning shows and the unethical lengths some hosts go to chase ratings.

Produced by the acclaimed duo Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi of 7th Sky Entertainment, “Jannat Se Aagey” is directed by Haseeb Hassan and written by Umera Ahmed.

What The Teasers Show

In the first teaser, Kubra Khan shines as she presents a satirical take on Pakistani morning shows through her character Jannat, the host of “Rise and Shine with Geo.” In a flamboyant and over-the-top manner, Jannat parodies the extravagance and self-obsession often seen in real-life morning show hosts. The teaser promises a delightful yet thought-provoking exploration of the world of morning shows and the drama that unfolds behind the cameras.

The second teaser takes a dark and powerful turn as it exposes the heartless tactics employed by Jannat to boost her show’s ratings. She shamelessly exploits the emotions of the family of a rape victim, using their tragedy as a tool for entertainment. The distressing scene shows Jannat forcing the family to cry on television, raising questions about the moral boundaries of the media industry and the cost of pursuing fame and success.

Unveiling the Woman Behind the Facade

The third teaser offers a glimpse into Jannat’s own struggles and vulnerabilities, unmasking the woman behind the glamorous facade of a morning show host. While she may portray herself as confident and in control on screen, the teaser hints at deeper issues that haunt Jannat. The drama delves into her personal journey, exploring the reasons behind her desperate pursuit of ratings and the consequences of sacrificing her principles for success.

An Ensemble of Stellar Talent

“Jannat Se Aagey” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with Kubra Khan leading the way with her powerful performance as Jannat. Accompanying her are Ramsha Khan, Gohar Rasheed, Talha Chahour, Lubna Aslam, Shahryar Zaidi, Hina Bayat, Saboor Aly, Faiza Gilani, Azlan, Hoorain, Sohail Khan, Aina Asif, and Sara Ashraf, each contributing their exceptional talents to bring the narrative to life.

Our Verdict

As the release date of “Jannat Se Aagey” draws near, the teasers have created anticipation for a drama that promises to be more than just entertainment. It aims to challenge the status quo of morning shows and shine a spotlight on the darker side of the television industry.

Kubra Khan’s portrayal of Jannat will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, inviting viewers to reflect on the consequences of chasing success at any cost. Stay tuned for the enthralling journey that “Jannat Se Aagey” has in store, as it unravels the tangled web of ambition, exploitation, and the search for redemption. Don’t miss this thought-provoking drama, coming soon on Geo Entertainment.

Rafay Says: The Curious Case of Missing Royalties

Rafay Says

The Writers Guild of America went on strike in a unique and eye-opening situation, causing production delays for major studios like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney. Shortly after, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists joined the strike in solidarity, strengthening the protection of creative artists’ rights.

An Intriguing Scenario – Support Pours In!

The Directors Guild of America and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists, and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories, and Canada (IATSE) also supported the cause. As a member of IATSE 411 Canada, I can confirm that productions are currently halted, and international guilds, including some from the UK, have also joined the movement.

The scenario is intriguing as writers and actors fight to preserve their wage structure and prevent Artificial Intelligence from taking over script and screenplay. Performers are advocating against AI using their likeness in the entertainment medium.

Considering the Local Industry

This situation prompted me to consider the local industry, involving entities like the United Producers Association, Directors Guild Pakistan, Actors Collective Trust Pakistan, and the Screen Writers Association of Pakistan.

Such a scenario could unite the guilds to safeguard the rights of creative artists. While the local industry is far from AI dominance, securing intellectual property and royalty rights for producers, directors, artists, and content writers remains a significant challenge.

Not too long ago, the hashtag #RoyaltiesForArtists trended on social media, initiated by artists seeking government support to pass a bill introducing royalties and protecting artists’ rights. Royalties are legally binding payments for ongoing asset usage, including copyrighted works and franchises. In contrast, Intellectual Property refers to creations of the mind like inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, and commercial symbols.

An issue arises with independent producers who capitalize on the work of independent artists, directors, and writers. The lack of checks on intellectual property and royalties occurs when specific networks purchase the work through official contracts that exempt them from paying royalties. Networks may subsequently air the content multiple times, sell it to streaming platforms, or exhibit it internationally without the original creators receiving royalties.

How to Address These Challenges?

To address these challenges, creative artists and guilds must unite to advocate for their financial well-being and secure royalty rights. Through the guilds, contracts can be improved to protect artists’ interests and suggest changes to network-owned contracts that currently lack this protection.

The momentum of #RoyaltiesForCreativeArtists must continue, and it’s crucial to involve local and national assemblies in consultations through effective guilds. A potential strike involving creative artists and guilds may be necessary to claim the unpaid hefty royalties. Though it may disrupt production, the tight-knit industry will feel its impact due to halted payments. However, in the current scenario, existing payments sometimes take over a year or more to release. Such actions are essential for protecting intellectual property and royalty rights.

We have to come together to resume the #RoyaltiesForCreativeArtists movement, making it an effective international endeavour, or gradually struggle into the hands of an AI takeover. No Royalties; no Intellectual Property protection and more AI. The choice lies in the hands of creative artists.

Mayi Ri Addresses Child Marriage Wrapped In a Compelling Storyline

Mayi Ri review

ARY Digital’s new venture and Big Bang Entertainment’s production, Mayi Ri presents a compelling narrative for the masses with a social commentary on child marriage, gender inequality, lack of women’s agency, and the importance of education in empowering individuals and fostering progress.

Having garnered more than 4 million views on its first episode in 24 hours of the release, Mayi Ri is off to a promising start.

Here is what we have to say about the first two episodes.

Mayi Ri: A drama for the masses?

Directed by Meesam Naqvi and conceptualized by Sana Fahad, Mayi Ri’s first episode delved deep into the introduction of all the characters. The drama follows the story of a joint family comprising of a mother, two brothers and their families.

The first episode did not dedicate enough screen time for the introduction of the lead characters and rather focused on the family dynamics and politics surrounding them.

Perhaps, our only recollection of the central characters from the first episode was that Annie (Aina Asif) and Fakhir (Samar Abbas) are cousins living in the same household. Annie reflects a classic 15-year-old teenager whose entire life is centred around family, her studies and recreation with her cousins. Fakhir is also portrayed to be an obedient and a kind son. However, in the drama it is indicated that he likes a girl, which might be a plot explored in the future episodes.

It is worth mentioning that the director and writer did a good job in exploring a healthy dynamic shared by Annie and Fakhir and their interactions with each other as we see them playing together and indulging in banter.

The art of dividing screen time:

Did the audience get what they were hoping to see in Mayi Ri? Well, according to the numbers and the YouTube reviews the majority of the audience are all praises for the drama. They thoroughly enjoyed the unveiling of the narrative and the family politics that followed.

The drama opened with the character of Nauman Ijaz having a heart attack and ended with the introduction of the second wife of Annie’s father. As addressed above, the first episode dedicated very limited screen time to the main characters. While we understand that the development of plot is necessary to introduce the main narrative i.e., child marriage, the audience also needs to see more of the characters and their characteristics.

We hope that Mayi Ri makers explore the social issue they are aiming to raise awareness about rather than dedicating the drama to family politics. While exploring family dynamics gives views and attract the masses, who are watching the drama, we feel it is imperative for the makers to draw a clear distinction between the social element and the rest of the plot so that the drama’s message is not diluted in an attempt to win the views game.

Mayi Ri’s attempt to initiate a dialogue on child marriage and beyond:

Mayi Ri’s concept which aims to weave a compelling narrative to initiate a dialogue on the cultural and societal norms that perpetuate child marriage seems promising. We applaud the entire team who decided to take on this challenge to bring forward a story that is relevant in our nation.

The teasers and the OST make our heart bleed by seeing what is to unwrap in the drama in the upcoming episode. The makers have not shied away from exploring the topic in depth and depicting a harsh reality that prevails in our society. Our only hope is that the drama is able to surpass our expectations and deliver this subject sensitively.

Performances:

We appreciate the makers for doing an age-appropriate casting, where the characters, especially the central characters, look their age.

It was exciting to see Nauman Ijaz as part of the cast and we hope he plays an integral role in unveiling of the plot. The lead pair, played by Aina Asif and Samar Abbas also did a decent job although we need to wait for more episodes to see how they essay their roles.

The audience was pleased to see Aina Asif gracing the screen as the main character. The young star has shown great potential, especially with her memorable role in the drama Hum Tum.

Mayi Ri features a star-studded cast including Nauman Ijaz, Aina Asif, Samar Abbas, Haniya Ahmed, Maria Wasti, Saad Zameer Faridi, Sajida Syed, Paras Masroor, Amna Malik, Diya Mughal, Usman Mazhar, Faham Usman, Sameena Nazir, and Bisma Babar. Notably, Maya Khan and Hiba Ali Khan will be making their much-anticipated comebacks with this drama.

We hope that the makers do justice with the concept they want to portray and we get a gripping and engaging drama that balances between highlighting social issue and the entertainment aspect that the viewers anticipate to see in a drama.

Sarmad Khoosat Decides To Release Zindagi Tamasha Online

Zindagi Tamasha

After years and years of delay and no hope for the film to be released on the big screen, producer/director Sarmad Khoosat has taken the fate of Zindagi Tamasha in his own hands and decided to release the film for free, online, on YouTube. According to a frustrated Sarmad, who couldn’t get a clearance for release of the film, he has decided to set it free. Zindagi Tamasha will now be uploaded on YouTube on the 4th of August.

Who would say no to the release of a film that has garnered appreciation all over the world?

Pakistan.

Why?

Religious controversies that plague the fate of most of the films in the country, ate up the very chance that Zindagi Tamasha had for live screenings in Pakistan. The movie won a number of international accolades and was a highly anticipated movie in Pakistan. However, it just couldn’t get a clearance for release.

Why was Zindagi Tamasha delayed in the first place?

Khoosat’s Zindagi Tamasha revolved around the story of Rahat, a loving, devout Muslim and a naat Khawan who lost all support and love from his people when a video featuring him went viral, causing shame and misfortune to befall him and his family. Because the story revolved around a devout Muslim and his fall from grace, Zindagi Tamasha met a lot of backlash, thus delaying the film’s release.

Zindagi Tamasha’s initial release in 2020 was delayed after Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) took offense with the content of the film and actively called for a ban against its release. Khoosat even wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and filed a petition against TLP in the High Court but to no avail. The film didn’t receive a clearance and Khoosat had to cancel the release after numerous threats.

Following this, the film was then cleared for release by the Senate Committee for Human Rights stating that Zindagi Tamasha could run in cinemas when they would open post COVID, however the fate remained undecided even after that. The film, then slated 18th March 2022 as its release date but couldn’t see the light of the day in Pakistan.

International Recognition

After its initial screening at the Busan Internation Film Festival in 2019, Zindagi Tamasha won the prestigious award titled Kim Ji-Seok Award. Following the first achievement the Sarmad Khoosat directorial again received an award at the 6th Asian World Film Festival in the category of Snow Leopard Award for Best Film at the 6th Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) in 2021. Receiving one international award after another, Zindagi Tamasha become one highly awaited film especially for the film fanatics in the country who craved a good watch on the big screen and yet the film couldn’t be released.

Perhaps the decision of releasing Zindagi Tamasha online is a difficult one for Khoosat, not to say a financial murder, but perhaps as a true film fanatic, Sarmad Khoosat has finally swallowed the bitter truth and decided for the better.

Baby Baji Offers Life Lessons That We All Needed

Baby Baji last episode

Emotional, over the top and heartfelt, family-oriented dramas are a regular staple of television in Pakistan today. Having one of the finest television industries in the world and producing top rank dramas, we take great pride in our family sagas, especially the ones that focus on the similarities of our own society, much thanks to the audiences’ appreciation of family values and unity. It won’t be incorrect to say that this is one of the major reasons why our television’s highest-rated drama series are based on familial issues, majorly the joint family system.

Coming to the massive hit that recently ended, Baby Baji. Now Baby Baji amassed a big viewership for itself, all thanks to its very relative content about a dysfunctional joint family held together by the elders of the house. Produced by Abdullah Seja under his production banner iDream Entertainment Baby Baji’s story revolved around the trials and tribulations faced by a joint family, and how it was the elders’ values of love, togetherness, and sacrifice that held the family together. Although the parents tried to instill the same values in their children, they somehow failed.

The Takeaways We Got From Baby Baji

Baby Baji was indeed a spectacular watch. Each actor did a wonderful job. People fell in love with the characters and the actors behind them. Fazal Hussain as Waleed, Sunita Marshall as Asma, Samina Ahmed as Baby Baji and not to forget the very toxic Azra played remarkably well by Javeria Saud. This doesn’t mean that the other actors didn’t do a good enough job, but these four actors nailed their characters to the T, making the audience love, cry and hate with them.

Story was amazing, performances were superb, acting and execution to the point along with the direction direction but what we as audience have loved most about Baby Baji is the fact that this drama stayed as close to reality as possible. Although initially we were miffed about the drama preaching joint family system as one of the best living styles in the society, one soon realized that this drama was not about praising a joint family but depicting how one ought to behave in one.

Mostly, it was about the younger and older generation’s equation with their parents and the ups and downs of this relationship. The drama ended on a sad note and some people might have found the ending without a closure, but that was the beauty of Baby Baji. Real life doesn’t always give you closure. Real life doesn’t always give you second chances. Real life doesn’t always allow you to apologize for your wrongdoings before people you have wronged pass away.

Did Baby Baji Impart The Right Lesson?

Partly perhaps. We think it is perfectly okay to stay in nuclear families. Parents or siblings could always be nearby with different set ups of their own, allowing privacy to each family and yet staying together. What we didn’t like about Baby Baji was the fact that the drama preached staying together in a joint family system as the ultimate ideal while demanding a separate home, away from the toxicity of a few relatives in the same house, as something to be looked down upon.

While Azra was toxic and demanded her own separate living space out loud by creating misunderstandings and rifts in the family, Farhat on the other hand was more poisonous by keeping everything in her own heart and polluting just the husband’s mind, even for his own mother. And the way these men got manipulated at the hands of their wives, the outcome was very pathetic. That perhaps was the only think the writer didn’t’ think before depicting.

Striking the Balance

It is indeed a man who maintains a balance in his life with his parents and his wife. Had the characters of Wasif and Jamal shown some backbone right from the start, Baby Baji wouldn’t have suffered at the hands of her daughter in laws, as she did. We know the situation was dramatized for the television affect, but it has become the case with many families and we would have preferred if the drama showed a more relative solution to the problem.

Baby Baji taught a valuable lesson about caring for one’s parents while they are alive, realizing their importance before its too late, and understanding the privacy and nature of members inside a joint family. There’s plenty to learn from Baby Baji, but for now we will take the backstage and admire the skills of all involved and let viewers make their own judgements.

Did Punjab Government Really Need a 12-Member Committee to Save the Province from Barbie?

Warning: This is satire; we love the occasional joke and sarcasm and have penned our raw thoughts down for you. Not for the faint of heart.

In an astonishing display of bureaucratic excellence, the Punjab government has risen to the occasion by forming a 12-member committee to tackle the most pressing issue plaguing the province – the screening of the Hollywood blockbuster, Barbie.

As the fate of Barbie’s release in Punjab hangs in the balance, citizens are left wondering how this titanic task requires not just one, but a dozen expert minds to deliberate on its “objectionable content.”

Expert Committee Members to Sit Through the Movie

The illustrious committee members, handpicked for their discerning tastes and expertise in Barbieology, have the prestigious job of sifting through every second of the film, seeking out any potential threat to Punjab’s values. Sources say they have already employed state-of-the-art Barbie-detection algorithms to scrutinize every Barbie smile and giggle.

Sources reveal that the Punjabi public is relieved that their tax money is being put to good use in the most significant crisis of our time. One citizen quipped, “Finally, the government is focusing on the real problems! Move over economy, healthcare, and education. It’s time to confront Barbie!”

When we come to think of it, it’s not just Barbie, but Ken and the other dolls in the Barbie army. It’s a doll attack and we may need 12 of our finest men, in a conference room, watching each minute detail to nip the Barbie-revolution in the bud.

Government’s Eye on Entertainment

Indeed, the previous ban on Barbie in Punjab demonstrated the government’s keen eye for detecting inappropriate content in seemingly innocent narratives. In the age of the internet, where unlimited content is readily accessible, it’s imperative that our lawmakers prioritize monitoring a plastic toy doll.

However, critics have been quick to point out the absurdity of the situation. “Do we really need 12 committee members to assess the movie? Is Barbie secretly an international spy or a threat to national security?” inquired one social media user, hoping for answers that would never come.

How We Long to Be in There

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that illustrious committee of grown-ups discussing the movie, Barbie! Picture this: twelve serious, mature adults, gathered around a conference table, furrowing their brows and pondering the complex sociopolitical implications of Margot Robbie’s adventure.

Oh, the sheer joy of witnessing these esteemed minds passionately debating the finer nuances of Barbie’s questionable fashion choices and her mysterious vendetta against society! We can already imagine the heated discussions on whether Barbie’s pink convertible poses a security risk or if her dream house is an imminent threat to national sovereignty.

Truly, it’s a riveting spectacle that only a privileged few get to witness – the deliberation of the century that will decide the destiny of a movie that has shaken the very foundations of Punjab. Oh, how we long to be in that room, savoring the deep intellectual insights, as they uncover the hidden meanings behind Barbie’s infectious smile.

The World Watches

As the full censor board meeting commenced, the world watched with bated breath to see if Barbie’s innocent charm would manage to sway the committee or if Punjab’s values would remain untarnished by the colorful world of plastic.

The 12-member committee is a clear display of competence and excellent allocation of resources by the Punjab government. While they face the monstrous task of deciding whether Barbie is fit for their society, the rest of us can rest easy, knowing that our policymakers are focusing on the real issues that matter.

After all, if Barbie can be banned, what’s next? Legos? Dumbo? Only time will tell as Punjab continues its valiant quest to protect the world from the treacherous threat of entertainment!
