The Ghabrana Nahi Hai Trailer Is Out And It Looks Extremely Promising

Saba Qamar is a treat to experience in any venture; this is not a biased opinion, but an indisputable fact. The way she breathes life into all the characters she portrays is breathtaking, and the superstar seems to be geared up to deliver yet again in Geo Films’ Ghabrana Nahi Hai.

Cast

A stellar cast works its magic on screen, with the supremely talented Zahid Ahmed playing what comes across as a self-righteous, yet morally askew cop who falls in love with Qamar’s character. Syed Jibran seems to factor into what looks like a love triangle, making his intention of marrying Qamar’s character crystal clear.

Nayyar Ejaz, with his deep, base-filled voice (it truly does stand out, even in the trailer) plays the role of a menacing antagonist – a gangster prepared to facilitate the plot with his antics.

Plot

Once again, Saba seems to preside with the kind of magnetism and command that she alone possesses, and while the trailer of Ghabrana Nahi Hai raises several anticipatory questions with regards to the plot itself, the decision makes sense – keep the audience guessing.

The trailer begins with a festive wedding scene, supplemented with Qamar’s voiceover, where she muses over the idea of dreams and possibilities.

It cuts to introducing Sikandar, played by Ahmed, who interrupts what seems to be a dance number with a gun in hand, stating that such obscenities are not befitting of the country in which the universe of the film is set (Pakistan).

The Verdict So Far

Beautiful shots embellish this promising trailer, and with director Saqib Khan and producers Jamil Baig and Hassan Zia working behind the scenes, the cinematic venture seems ready to deliver in a magnanimous way on Eid-ul-Fitr.

While we are left with numerous questions after the initial watch of the trailer, all those queries revolve around what will eventually transpire in the narrative. With the trailer alone leaving people wanting more, we cannot wait for the film’s eventual release to immerse ourselves in this exhilarating cinematic ride.

The Trailer For Chakkar Is Out & It’s A Murder Mystery To Look Out For

The trailer for the Neelum Muneer, Ahsan Khan and Yasir Nawaz starrer ‘Chakkar’ has dropped and it’s definitely one that raises numerous questions. Releasing on Eid-ul-Fitr, Chakkar posits itself to be a murder mystery, with all the promise of masala that desi audiences have grown to love.

The Plot

Produced by Nida Yasir and Yasir Nawaz under the Farid Nawaz Productions banner, this multi-starrer narrates the tale of two twin sisters, one of whom (Zara) is deeply entrenched in the world of glitz and glamor, much to the dismay of the other twin’s husband, played by Khan.

While one wonders how that conflict alone might play out, Yasir Nawaz’s directorial feat takes an interesting turn when the twins pull a switcheroo, with Khan’s wife taking the place of her twin at shoots while he is away.

In doing so, she comes face to face with the dramatic upheavals of the industry. This switch is complete with a murder taking place, with the world thinking it is Zara who has been brutally killed.

Thus, the investigation begins in earnest, with numerous suspects at play. However, Khan ends up becoming a prime suspect as well, due to his unfavorable demeanor towards Zara, owing to their interpersonal disagreements.

The investigation is led by Yasir Nawaz’s character, and with action scenes inundating the trailer as well, one does develop hints of anticipation towards the eventual release of the film.

The Tone Of The Film

Should one presume that the entire film is laced with somber tones, there are enough bits of comedy scattered throughout to remedy this thought process.

In a previous interview, Nida Yasir, who has taken on a more hands-on approach in terms of production with this venture, mentions that the comedy is “situational,” and “the comic value suits the character it’s on.”

The Verdict So Far

Given that this film marries traces of romance with heavy intrigue, the film has already set itself apart in terms of its genre. With its eventual release rounding the corner on Eid-ul-Fitr, we now wait with bated breath to see if Chakkar truly does boggle our minds collectively.

Sana Javed Responds To Allegations Of Misbehavior With A Legal Notice

Over the past couple of days, allegations of misbehavior and alleged abuse of power have been levied against Sana Javed by numerous individuals within the entertainment industry. While detailed accounts were shared, alongside opinions, and support for those speaking up, Sana seemed to have remained relatively silent during the unfolding of events.

However, the actress has taken to Instagram to address these allegations with a legal notice, pictures of which were shared in her post.

“In the past 72 hours, I’ve been subjected to all sorts of lies and fabricated stories, bullying, hate speech, and threats,” penned Sana Javed in the Instagram post. “A proper planned smear campaign has been initiated against me by a group of individuals,” she further explains.

Sana talks about how this ordeal has caused “severe trauma” to her and her family. Moreover, she writes that she is shocked to see how “toxic” people can be, with many jumping on the bandwagon of hate without verifying facts.

In all of this, Sana states that she will not be commenting on the stories or incidents that have come to light, despite the accounts being “one side of the story,” claiming that all that has been shared is “beyond disgusting,” and “disgraceful.”

Capping off her statement, she reveals that she has taken legal action, with the matter now lying in the hands of legal bodies.

“I love my work and hold it in the highest [regard]” says Sana Javed in her Instagram caption. “Throughout my career I’ve tried my best to hold my ground and my integrity by giving [the] utmost respect to my colleagues and peers, and expected the same in return.”

Sana concludes her post by stating once again that she will be pursuing this legally, and talks about being grateful for the support she has received from friends and fans who have stood by her during this time, calling these supportive factions her strength.

The detailed Instagram post also contains images of a legal document that further explains details with regards to the entire matter.

Films This Friday: 4 Films We’re Excited To Watch

The world is slowly but surely finding hints of solace and a renewed form of normalcy as the pandemic subsides, giving way for things that were previously on hold to find their way back into our routines. This includes cinema releases too, of course, and what better way to ensure we’re getting back on track than heading to our once-abandoned theatres to get our dose of entertainment? With that in mind, we’re back with ‘Films This Friday,’ and we have four releases from which you can pick. Here we go:

Death Hunt

This is for all the folks who have been waiting on the edge of their seats for an action-thriller. Death Hunt is a Canadian film about a developer and his mistress who are taken hostage and are then hunted for sport by a group of men.

The directorial helm is Neil Mackay’s and the screenplay is by Sean McAulay, who has also co-written this rather intriguing narrative.

The film stars names like Rick Amsbury, Marlene Malcolm, Greg Johnston, Frank Ieraci, Omar Tucci, Peter Lewis, and Michael Coughlan, among others.

Jatt Brothers

A full-on desi release, Jatt Brothers is a Punjabi film that has been directed by Manav Shah. It features Guri, Jass Manak, Nikeet Dhillon, and Anita Devgan in the lead roles. The film also stars Ashish Duggal and Harpal Singh.

The plot revolves around a pair of best friends that end up competing with each other to win over a pair of women.

Given that there’s plenty of room for mayhem and mischief, this could be a fun, entertaining watch for sure.

Thori Life Thori Zindagi

Directed by Khalid Kidwai who has also written the script, and co-produced by Khursheed Rizvi, the plot seems to find notes of relatability, shedding light on the issues of your everyday middle class/upper middle class Pakistani household.

Made under the banner of the US-based Whisper Films in collaboration with D’ Max Studios, the film stars Shahood Alvi, Inayat Khan, and Kesha Siddiqui.

Turning Red

Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures are back with another animated coming-of-age tale that revolves around Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl who can’t seem to find a middle ground between being an obedient daughter, or dealing with being a teenager. Here’s the kicker: if she gets too excited, she turns into a big, red panda.

Featuring the voices of Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Hyein Park, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, and James Hong, this is definitely a movie that one can watch with their family for some cute, wholesome fun.

With these four films this Friday in store, which will you go to watch? Let us know in the comments!

Zindagi Tamasha Release Gets Delayed Yet Again

Sarmad Khoosat’s ‘Zindagi Tamasha’ was all set to be released in cinemas across Pakistan on March 18th, after an ongoing censorship battle since its original release date in January 2020.

However, as confirmed by Khoosat himself, the Arif Hassan and Eman Suleman starrer will no longer be releasing in the anticipated Friday slot. A new release date is yet to be announced, much to the dismay of a thoroughly enticed Pakistani audience that was all geared up to show the film its due share of love.

The Narrative

With a narrative revolving around Rahat, a beloved, devout Muslim who is a naat Khawan, the film zeroes in on the protagonist losing the support of his community after a video featuring him goes viral, causing shame to befall upon him and his family.

Past Turbulence

The fact that the cast and crew of Zindagi Tamasha have already experienced exhausting turbulence with regards to the release of the film is public knowledge. Despite the Senate Committee for Human Rights approving the screening of the film, its 2020 release became a looming question mark after Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) took offense with the content of the film, calling for protests against its release.

International Recognition

Even though the release of Zindagi Tamasha has been a constant struggle, the film has already received international acclaim, having been the first Pakistani film to win the sought-after Kim Ji-Seok Award at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea – an undoubtedly impressing accolade.

Furthermore, it won the Snow Leopard Award for Best Film at the 6th Asian World Film Festival in 2021, and was the official entry by Pakistan in the International Feature Film Award category for the 2020 Academy Awards – all milestones that have doubled as feathers in the collective caps of all those involved in the production of the film, as well as that of the nation.

Having generated a fair amount of anticipation, audiences look forward to enjoying this unique tale, once its release date is locked down with the utmost certainty.

Allegations Of Misbehavior Are Piling Up Against Sana Javed

Recently, the entertainment side of social media was set ablaze when allegations of misbehavior by actress Sana Javed began pouring in.

The Allegations

This string of claims began when model Manal Saleem took to her Instagram stories to state that clients should avoid making her shoot with any actress or celebrity due to their “self entitled attitudes.”

While Manal refrained from naming the actress in question who reportedly called her a “dou takkay ki model,” she did state that people guessing who the actress was were not too far from hitting the nail on the head.

The situation unraveled further when make-up artist Omayr Waqar weighed in on the matter as well, stating that “It’s just one person – not all actresses are the same.”

Public Opinion

This matter alone sparked a debate between the general public, who not only took turns trying to guess the individual being discussed, but also shared how they felt that entitlement and an overtly inflamed sense of pride are traits that are both unnecessary and unbecoming of any person – especially when it is a person in a position of relative power.

Further Developments

Within a span of barely two days, however, accusations grew from being merely speculative in nature, to others within the industry sharing their experiences.

Models Mydah Raza and Mushk Kaleem took to their Instagram stories to discuss how “this actress is notorious for being unpleasant on set,” like an alleged bully, and how the encounter spoke more to the actress’ own insecurities.

Stylist Anila Murtaza shared an Instagram story with a thought bubble with the name ‘Sana’ in it, and makeup artist Ikram Gohar stated that he knew it was none other than Sana Javed being discussed, calling her a “horrible and unprofessional actress.” Make-up artist Rhyan Thomas applauded those speaking up, sharing that he had the worst experience working with the star, stating that “people like them think no end to themselves.”

Detailed Accounts

Shortly after, Ikram Gohar went into great detail to further explain his stance, talking about how Sana Javed is “horrible and unprofessional,” and he will never work with her again.

Moreover, Ikram talked about Sana allegedly calling him to a place in DHA for her nikkah makeup trial, during which she mistreated him over an eyeshadow look, and refused to let him use the washroom at the place they were in, urging him to utilize a rest room at a restaurant in front of the space in which the trial was ongoing.

He stressed upon the fact that the industry consists of many names that maintain professional decorum, regardless of their star power.

In addition to this, Rhyan Thomas shared an incident where he was called in by models Sana Javed and Sadaf Kanwal for the PISA awards in Dubai, where Sana allegedly displayed behavior that was both unprofessional and petty.

Given that two models had to be catered to, timings were set accordingly by Rhyan. However, as per Rhyan’s recollection, upon his arrival, Sana claimed to be suffering from a migraine and went to take a hot bath that lasted an hour. After this, she allegedly wanted to have hookah, for which she took Rhyan to the lobby to spend time with other celebrities. This ordeal took another two hours, during which Rhyan claims that he was in touch with Sadaf as well.

Upon heading back to her hotel room, Sana allegedly “threw a fit,” due to her being late for the red carpet. With Sadaf’s calls alerting Rhyan, Sana apparently confiscated Rhyan’s phone, and “put the hotel’s landline on hold” to ensure there was no contact from anyone.

Here, Rhyan states that he was “held hostage,” and Sana reportedly spent the rest of the time demeaning his skills, also placing blame for the process to have taken 8 hours upon the make-up artist. In all of this, Sadaf thought that Rhyan had bailed on her, and did her hair and make-up herself, which the make-up artist claims is what Sana wanted due to “insecurity.”

Durefishan Saleem shared Rhyan Thomas’ post, stating that “harassment is a big NO,” regardless of the gender of the instigator.

More Incidents Coming To Light

With more and more encounters coming forth with regards to this, various figures from the industry are speaking up. Model Fareeha Sheikh recently took to Instagram to compile a post about alleged misbehavior by Sana Javed.

According to Fareeha’s post, the unfortunate incident took place a few months ago at Mian Saad’s studio where multiple shoots can take place. Fareeha arrived first and got her make-up done on the day when Sana Javed had to shoot for a designer at a separate set.

According to Fareeha, Sana arrived three hours late, and upon seeing Fareeha in the room, “stormed out” and “threw a tantrum,” stating that she’s leaving due to another girl being present in the room. Sana reportedly stated that she would not come back till Fareeha was “kicked out,” upon which the designer Sana was shooting with “barged in and started screaming” at Fareeha, leaving her shell-shocked. This prompted the make-up artist and Saad to ask the designer to leave the space.

Fareeha makes it a point to end her account by stating that she hopes “Sana Javed learns that shit comes back to you one way or the other.”

Mahnoor Sheikh also weighed in on this, stating that Sana is “arrogant, disrespectful, [and] rude.” She, too, shared an incident where Sana allegedly did not want to sit in the same make-up room as her and two other models while shooting a TVC.

As of now, these have been the developments that have come to light. With numerous credible professionals falling in line to agree upon this matter, one does begin to wonder if this has been a vital reality check for the star in question.

Box Office: Ishrat Made In China Fails To Wow Audiences

Big budgets bring big responsibilities with them! Last weekend saw the release of the latest Pakistani film Ishrat Made in China”. The film opened in cinemas on the 3rd March all across the country which made it a Thursday release – a very unusual day to release one’s film. The film’s response was pretty lackluster, as the audience did not welcome it with open arms.

The film, over the weekend, was only able to collect a mere 20 to 25 lacs, which is a disastrous number for a film made on a whooping budget of approximately 14 crores.

The last Pakistani film to release “Khel Khel Mein” had done a lot of ground promotions through posters, streamers, TV ads, billboards and hoardings in cinemas. Ishrat Made In China on the other hand was to be seen no-where as the films trailer was not even run in cinemas when the year’s biggest film Spiderman released. The film failed to generate pre-hype.

Moreover, a film that is appreciated by cinema-goers tends to find its audience sooner or later, but in the case of Ishrat Made In China, the film could not generate any good word of mouth whatsoever.

This is undoubtedly sad news for the Pakistan film industry, which, due to COVID-19, has gone back to its revival days. Regardless, we can only keep our heads high and hope for the best.

This weekend, another film released – the Hollywood biggie, “The Batman”. The film managed to register the second biggest weekend for a film post-pandemic. It managed to gross a huge 4.5 crores over the 3-day weekend. This is the highest opening for any DC superhero film in Paksitan. The film also got rave reviews all over the world , despite being a very dark and grim movie.

The word of mouth is good and we feel the film will continue to run successfully until Ramzan. This might emerge as a blockbuster if it continues to hold well over the coming weeks, with there being no competition until Eid-ul Fitr.

Therefore, this weekend brought good and bad news for the industry with the hope that the future will be bright.

Larki Achari From ‘Dum Mastam’ Is The Wedding Song Of The Season!

This season, get ready to groove with the vibrant, peppy number that Larki Achari is. While we’re certainly impressed by Imran Ashraf and Amar Khan’s killer dance moves, it’s the catchy beat of the song which will hook your mind, there and then.

Sung by Shiraz Uppal and Neha Chaudhary, Larki Achari has definitely grabbed attention – all for the right reasons, ever since its release 3 days ago. Electrifying performances by Amar and Imran keep the audience tapping their feet to the beat with their eyes glued to the screens. In short, Larki Achari is not only a melodious delight but a visual treat as well. All in one.

The launch event for Larki Achari was as vivacious and groovy as the song itself. Huge names such as Reema, Meera, Bilal Lashari, Rambo, Sahiba, Resham, Bilal Saeed, Syed Noor, Iffat Omar, and Nayyer Ejaz were amongst the many A-listers that were spotted during the launch.

Helmed by the creative maestro that Ehteshamuddin is, Dum Mastam, definitely looks like a real entertainer. The film is penned by Amar Khan, who seems to have done a good job weaving an intriguing story set against the backdrop of old Lahore. The film stars Imran Ashraf and Amar Khan in the lead roles alongside Kiran Malik, Saleem Mairaj, Momin Saqib, Arslan Naseer, Saife Hasan, Uzma Beg, Sohail Ahmed, Agha Mustafa Hassan, Adnan Shah Tipu and Faiza Gillani amongst many others.

Produced by Adnan Siddiqui and Akhtar Hasnain for Cereal Entertainment and with an Eid release to its name, Dum Mastam will definitely take its audience on a rollercoaster ride of their life with Aliya and Bao in the driving seats.

9 Pakistani Dramas That Beautifully Tackled Social Issues

As someone who absolutely admires Pakistani dramas and the way they are created (not all but many of them), I have been a keen observer of the way of storytelling our desi creators prefer. Some of them choose to make it an archetypal “12 Masaaloun Ki Chaat” with melodrama and repetitive family politics, while there are some remarkable creators who only tend to produce true masterpieces with unconventional stories and subtle executions.

Dramas that tackle a certain social issue or a theme are not usually blockbusters in terms of ratings, quite honestly. However, most of them manage to create awareness about their respective subject and start conversations on social taboos. Here’s a list of 9 Pakistani dramas that not only challenged societal norms but also created an impact on their audiences with their exceptional manner of execution.

Rehaai

Produced by Momina Duraid Productions in collaboration with Kashf Foundation, ‘Rehaai’ tackled under-age marriage and domestic violence in a remarkable manner. The project is written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Mehreen Jabbar.

The story revolves around Shameem, played by Samina Peerzada who was forced into marriage when she was a child. She now has a son, Waseem, played by Naumaan Ijaz, married to Shehnaz, played by Maria Wasti. Waseem and Shehnaz are unable to conceive which makes the frustrated Waseem treat his wife as a punching bag. After constant social pressure, Waseem decides to marry a preteen despite strong opposition from his wife and mother.

Shehnaaz and Shameem raise Kulsoom, Waseem’s new wife as a daughter, but couldn’t save her from the evils that come with the relationship she was forced into. Kulsoom then gives birth to three daughters and the drama proceeds with Kulsoom and Waseem’s respective journeys to awareness and redemption.

Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahin

Another masterpiece by Kashf Foundation, ‘Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahin’ is written by Aamna Mufti and directed by Kashif Nisar. The project deals with human trafficking and several other social taboos in a subtle way. Starring Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali, the story highlights heart wrenching journeys of women who were victims of human trafficking and now are living miserable lives at brothels.

This drama also talks about increasing crime rates among youngsters due to poverty and lack of basic facilities.

Udaari

Hum TV’s superhit drama which is now considered a classic, ‘Udaari’ was an exceptional story highlighting the social evil of child sexual abuse in society. Penned down by Farhat Ishtiaq, this story was phenomenal in not only spreading awareness about the cause, but also in the viewership charts.

Udaari handled several tracks beautifully, with an added romantic angle between Urwa Hocane and Farhan Saeed’s characters. The project set a benchmark of good storytelling and impactful messaging.

Damsa

Nadia Jameel starrer, ‘Damsa’ revolved around a mother who decides to go to every extent in order find her missing daughter. Damsa was penned down by the late Asma Nabeel, and directed by Najaf Bilgrami. The project discussed child trafficking and the life of street children in an exceptional manner. Although it couldn’t do much in ratings, Damsa did make an impact on viewers with strong storytelling.

Yaqeen Ka Safar

A drama that blew us away, Yaqeen Ka Safar was much more than a romantic love story of two doctors. Written by Farhat Ishtiaq, the drama tackled several social issues related to women in society. Starring Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir, this project was about every character’s respective journey to self awareness and realizations. Right from the beginning, Yaqeen Ka Safar managed to hit the right chords, which is why people still laud how sensitively it handled those issues.

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai

A Big Bang Entertainment production, ‘Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai’ was a different story from the production’s usual dramas. With a theme discussing stigmas attached to a daughter’s birth in a family, the drama also highlighted the issues with which a woman has to deal in her regular life.

An exceptionally strong narrative in a powerful and sensitive manner was conveyed beautifully through the story of a mother, played by Saima Noor who raises her daughters without a man’s support and sets an example.

Bedardi

Bedardi’ broke stereotypes and talked about an untouched social issue i.e. AIDS/HIV. The project starred Affan Waheed as a patient who accidentally contracts the disease while co-living with a friend in a hostel. Aiman Khan plays his wife who also becomes affected. The drama spreads awareness about the illness and talks about how the patients should be treated.

Chup Raho

Directed by filmmaker Yasir Nawaz, ‘Chup Raho’ starred Sajal Aly and Arjumand Rahim opposite Feroze Khan, Syed Jibran and Yasir Nawaz. The project revolves around a young girl who becomes a victim of harassment and sexual assault by her own brother-in-law. Its a woman’s journey who goes through unfortunate circumstances and becomes shattered when her own husband doesn’t believe her.

Sajal Aly gave one of her strongest performances in a character that eventually comes out to be a brave individual after going through so much trauma.

Aakhir Kab Tak

Recently ended, ‘Aakhir Kab Tak’ was a remarkable journey of a rape survivor. Srha Asghar played Fajar who borns in a conservative family where daughters are considered inferior to sons. With the support of her strong and ambitious sister Noor, played by Ushna Shah, and husband, the initially meek Fajar becomes confident and powerful, eventually realizing how important her self respect is to lead a secure life in this society.

The drama challenged several values that lead to damaged personalities and problematic behaviours. Director Syed Ali Raza Usama and writer Radain Shah excellently managed to grip the masses with multiple interesting tracks and realistic plot.

Conclusion

Pakistani dramas have a powerful grip on portraying realism and fiction in the most outstanding way possible. Most of them are managing to spread awareness about multiple sensitive subjects while many are providing the much needed entertainment factor to the world of television. These are just 9 of the most powerful narratives that will definitely leave a long-lasting impact on you.
