Chalay Thay Saath (Review): A bumpy yet enthralling ride!

Movie Name: Chalay Thay Saath

Release Date: April 21, 2017

Director: Umer Adil

Review by: Momin Ali Munshi

Firstly, apologies for the extremely late review. I think this is probably a record of some kind as far as online reviews are concerned so yay us! But honestly, we are really sorry for not being that active on the blog for the last few weeks. However, now we are back and let’s kickstart things with this review, which may be quite pointless given that the film is not even playing in cinemas anymore but nonetheless here is a brief review.

The film opens with young doctor Resham ( Syra Shahroz) who introduces the audiences to the main characters of the film and with that starts the journey of Chalay Thay Saath where we meet friends Zain (Osama Tahir), Tanya (Mansha Pasha) and Faraz (Faris Khalid) who are all travelling up north to Resham’s hometown. Zain and Tanya are a married couple on the brink of a divorce while Faraz is a fresh return from the US and a happy go lucky kind of a guy. Joining these four friends on their trip are two strangers, one an elder woman traveling alone for the first time and of course the guest from China Adam (Kent S Leung). Also somewhere along the journey, they meet divorcee (Zhalay Sarhadi) who has a romantic track with Faraz.

The main issue as always with Pakistani films is that of a weak screenplay. The pacing of the film is questionable where nothing seems to be moving at times, and then everything happens in a jiffy. Furthermore, without going into much detail, the story has quite a few loopholes which question your sanity at times. In all honesty, the film would have been better off had the director just focused on the Syra- Kent story and done away with the supporting actors and their half-baked tracks because their arcs were not well developed and they just took away from the main plot. The acting was great but there was not much to do!

But despite all this when you leave the cinema hall, you have a smile on your face and the reason for that is a powerful climax and generally the likeability that the film and its characters have. As briefly mentioned earlier, the acting department of the film is strong and all actors give an applaud worthy performance. It was pleasantly surprising to see such great performances by new actors. A special mention here for  Syra Shahroz and Behroz Sabzawari who make the climax what it is!

The music of the film is another plus point.  Jeep Racey, Mariam, Khalis Makhan all songs are a great addition to the film, with the first two being particularly uplifting. Although its not a conventional film soundtrack but it’s definitely one of the stronger ones we have seen recently.

The film has been shot beautifully as is evident from the promos itself. The director Umer Adil really knows how to use the camera to his advantage! Only if the editing and the script had been a bit crisper the film would have been much better. Nonetheless, the actors share a great chemistry, the film has its moments and the whole the feel good film deserves a watch. (Maybe buy a DVD given its no more playing in cinemas)

Style File: Top 5 ‘Yay’ and ‘Nay’ looks from the 5th Hum Awards 2017!

The 5th HUM Awards 2017 took place in Lahore last week and made headlines for all the right and well some wrong reasons too. We at Galaxy Lollywood kept you informed with all the happenings from this event via live coverage on social media and a detailed post on the blog. However, now it’s time for another post on the awards ( the last post) which is our style file where we pick our top five ‘yay’ and ‘nay’ looks.

                     Top 5 ‘Yay’ Looks!

Mawra Hocane-min

#1
Who:
Mawra Hocane
Wearing: Daniele Carlotta
Clutch: Bottega Veneta
Stylist: Ania Fawad
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Shaban David, Tabesh Khoja and Nabila Salon

The GL verdict: While we did not approve of her choice at the Lux Style Awards, Mawra surely impresses with this killer look at the HUM Awards. The younger Hocane seriously knows how to make an impact with her no makeup look and flowy hair. Her pretty pastel pink dress gives a breath of fresh air to her overall look and hence she shoots right up to our ‘yay’ list!

maya ali#2
Who:
Maya Ali
Wearing: Nomi Ansari
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Khan Shoaib

The GL verdict: Maya Ali does it again! After pulling off the red gown at Lux Style Awards with sleek straight hair, Maya goes for a yellow skater dress this time with a tight ponytail which makes her look super chic. Is there any color this girl can’t rock?

Iqra Aziz-min
#3
Who:
Iqra Aziz
Wearing: Scarlet by Asma Eysa
Stylist: Alishay Adnan
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Nabila Salon

The GL verdict: A red carpet favorite, black is the go-to color for most celebrities and can easily be overdone but Iqra Aziz makes an impact with that edgy hairdo. Loving the smokey eye look which makes her eyes look breathtaking! This is one girl we have our eyes on.

zoya nasir
#4
Who:
Zoya Nasir
Wearing: Sania Maskatiya
Hair Stylist and MUA: Sabs Salon

The GL verdict: Who knew that an all gold look would end up being sultrier than the classic black dress! Trust Zoya Nasir to bring her A game and slay it at the fashion front with her perfect makeup and hair ( pfft she’s a makeup artist herself ) complimenting her super hot gold dress. We approve!

Sarrish Khan
#5
Who:
Sarish Khan
Wearing: HSY
Stylist: Rao Ali Khan
Jewelry: Vavci Dubai
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Nabila Salon

The GL verdict: Everyone should take a cue from Sarish to make a black gown look different. Loving the avant-garde take on the look! Also the fact that the exotic looking babe has one if the fittest bodies in the biz adds to the oomph factor! We love.

Almost made it to the list: Hareem Farooq ( Elan Official), Mikaal Zulfiqar ( Rohit Bahl), Fatima Ahmed Butt (Asifa and Nabeel), Momina Mustehsan (Saira Shakira)Shanzay Sheikh (Shiza Hassan).

Top 5 ‘Nay’ Looks!

kubra khan
#1
Who:
Kubra Khan
Wearing: Honey Waqar
Hair and Makeup Artist: Makeup Studio

The GL verdict: Way too blank! 10 points to makeupstudio for Kubras makeup but 0 points to that Honey Waqar outfit. Perfect for shadis but not for awards. Also, this makes Kubra look way older than her actual age no?

meera
#2
Who:
Meera
Wearing: Rubab Aqsa

The GL verdict: Looks like Meera recycled her LSA gown and turned it silver with an addon of the WWE  belt. The jewelry and big curls make it even worse. To top it off the makeup adds years to her face. She has the looks, she just needs a stylist!

Sanam Chd.-min
#3
Who:
Sanam Chaudhry
Wearing: Amina Yasmeen by Mansoor Akram
Stylist: Kabeer Gill
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Kabeer Gill

The GL verdict: Looks like someone had a lot of spare bedsheets so decided to use it as a makeshift gown. Bland choice of color with “latto wala jura” makes for a boring look. But seriously the gown is ugly!

aiman
#4
Who:
Aiman Khan
Wearing: Hem
Stylist: Her and Hem
Accessories: Bling Accessories

The GL verdict: Aimans look takes us into a Deja Vu of being eerily similar to Maya Ali’s look from the Lux Style Awards and its safe to say Maya won the style game and Aiman lost it because it’s better to be original rather a cheap copy!

Ayesha Khan-min
#5
Who:
Ayesha Khan
Wearing: Erum Khan
Stylist: Haiya Bokahri
Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist: Babar Zaheer

The GL verdict: Again a bland color, whereas Ayesha Khan can easily pull off bold colors and better cuts. I wish she would have experimented a little which would in have easily put her on the best-dressed list.

Here’s what all happened at the 5th HUM Awards 2017!

The 5th Anual Hum Awards took place in Lahore this weekend where the best of television ( a bit of film and music too) was celebrated at a grand event which was attended by the who’s who of the entertainment industry. Team Galaxy Lollywood was there and gave you live updates from the event on our social media platforms. But, now it’s time to get into the details and talk about what all really happened at this glamorous event. So here goes, our signature timeline post on the 5th HUM Awards 2017!

7:30pm

The invite had 7 pm as the red-carpet time and 8 pm as the show time but we knew this was Lahore and no red-carpet could start before 8 pm, so 7:30 pm seemed like a decent time to make an appearance and start the coverage.

7:35pm

We were inside the venue and for a second there I thought we had the wrong venue because all I could see left and right were aunty’s in their salma sitara joras, uncles holding their bachas, with daadi and naani’s walking right behind and I was like yeah cool shit!

8:00pm

The red carpet was yet to start to so we thought we’d take a team Galaxy Lollywood photo.

8:30pm

The red carpet officially starts and boy was it a mess! The officials had no idea how to handle the crowd once the celebrities started to walk in. Publications and social media influencers like Sunday Times, Paperrazi and us included were initially not allowed onto the red carpet to cover the event and only once we raised our voice in unanimity were we given a spot on the red carpet for coverage. Needless to say, the mood for the night wasn’t going to be great given the start was so shaky!

9:30pm

By then the mess of a red carpet was done. Here are a few highlights:-

  • Just like the LSA’s, the star power was weak at the HUM Awards too. It is a shame that the industry couldn’t unite for another big event, whereas everyone would have made it a point to come had the event been in a foreign location. Trust me everyone will come to the AFA’s which we hear might take place at an exotic location.
  • Meera walked with her mother and brother, just like Sheheryar Munawar did at the LSA’s! However, unlike the Munawar’s good looks don’t run in the genes of this family.
  • Feroze Khan walked in and I thought it would be a great idea to get a shout out from the young star but ‘ I don’t do shout outs’ was the reply I got from him. I was like ‘Ummm, almost everyone is doing them’, not the most intelligent reply but in the spur of the moment this is what I could come up with and the night wasn’t that great for spontaneity. ‘So if everyone jumps into the well will I follow?’ was the reply I got. Someone’s getting too big for their shoes I guess, and abhi his debut film bombed at the box office. Imagine!
  • In contrast, Osman Khalid Butt has to be the most media-friendly celebrity ever. He not only obliged all the bloggers, publications with pictures/videos/shout outs and all but made it a point to take selfies with the fans who were waiting for Osman. At one point it got so messy that the security was stopping the fans but the sweetheart that Osman is he intervened because hey it’s the fans who make one a celebrity!
  • Love birds Muneeb and Aiman walked the red carpet together and we all went aww!
  •  Lots of celebrities, lots of boomerangs, pictures and shout outs were done.

9:40pm

Walked our way to the main hall, where the awards would take place. The stage was breathtakingly beautiful and the entire do was super glam.

9:50pm

‘Trying to find your seats Munshi’ said Osman Khalid Butt and I was like ‘yes’ while thinking to myself I have been going around in circles for the past 10 minutes! Is there even a seat with our names?

10:00pm

So after some time we just sat on some random dudes seat for he had an entire row reserved for himself and we thought he wouldn’t notice a few seats missing. So we had our spot, no thanks to you team HUM!

10:30pm

The awards finally began with an opening performance featuring some fancy dancers flown from abroad (a HUM trademark of sorts).

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTel-j1hMDF/?taken-by=galaxylollywood

10:40pm

Yasir Hussain made his way to the stage for his comedy skit which, unfortunately, by the end of the night, got completely overshadowed by the remarks he made later on. Anyhow, the performance had its fun moments though, in all honesty, Yasir has done way better in the past. But the show started on a fun note and we had a good laugh.

10:50pm

The talented and good looking hosts for the night Mikaal Zulfiqar and Hareem Farooq arrived on stage. To show enthusiasm they both shouted at the audiences and somewhere forgot that they had microphones on.

11:00pm

Some awards were given and now was time for the first performance which was a tribute to Junaid Jamshed paid by his sons and former band mate.  It was definitely was way-way better than the tribute at the LSA’s! We had a great time singing along.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BTer3e3harm/

11:15pm

Morning show queen Nadia Khan is going to hosting a few segments now. We’re loving here new slim avatar.

11:30pm
Time for the first dance performance. It’s Shahroz Sabzwari and Sarrish Khan who set the stage on fire! Loving this new jodi, can’t wait to see them on the silver screen when their film ‘Chein Aye Na’ releases. It was interesting to see the duo perform to a song from Noor Bukhari’s ‘ Ishq Positive’ with almost similar choreography and it was like the song became twice as fun!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTeuso4hHsy/

11:50pm

Child star Hina Altaf aka Zaibu wins a special award for her stellar performance in ‘Udaari’ and is joined by co-star Ahsan Khan when she receives the award. Ahsan, I guess thought it was his award and completely hijacked the poor girl’s speech with his own zealous and meaningful yet not appropriately timed speech ( He won two more awards that night and didn’t have much to say when it was his award).

12:00am

Mehwish Hayat comes for her performance and well it was obviously good considering she’s one of the better dancers we have. The fun part was when she danced to the ‘Thumka’ song from the film ‘Teri Meri Love Story’ which was picturized on Uzma Khan and Uzma was there in the audiences. It was like Mehwish saying to Uzma, this is how you dance girl 😛

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTey2CAhHLb/

12:20am

Lifetime achievement award for Farida Khanum jee. She hums a few words for the audiences and everyone is mesmerized.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTe0pNlh9hU/

12:40am

Ahsan Khan wins his first award, for Best Actor in a Negative Role, and you all know what happened!

12:50am

Time for another musical performance. Asim Azhar and Momina Mustehsan walk on to the stage while singing ‘Man Mayyal’ and we are in love with the song once again! Then Ali Sethi and the legend himself Sajjad Ali make their way to the stage. The juggal bandi that takes place and the music that we get out of it has us dancing on our seats. Definitely one of our favorite performances from the night! Wish we could get these new versions of the hit songs on audio.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTe3cWDhD9c/

1:15am

Iffat Omar is on stage to announce an award and boy we want to have a drink of whatever she is having! I remember sitting close to her at the ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ premiere in Lahore where more than the film itself, the audiences were enjoying her live commentary on the film. We got a taste of that once again when she came to give an award 😉

1:30am

Ahmed Ali Butt does his comedy sequence and starts with roasting Noman Ejaz. Wonder what the senior actor had to say about this. Also, the jokes on Humayun Saeed will never get old, will they?

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTe6N0PhN4x/

1:40am

Time for some film recognition awards. And just like last year HUM doesn’t want to get into petty fights so just honors one film from each major key player. ‘Janaan’ from ARY Film, ‘Actor In Law’ from Urdu 1 and a pat on their own HUM Films back with an award for ‘MaheMir’.

2:00am

Ahsan Khan and Kubra Khan dance to some popular songs from last year and we loved their energy! At one point Ahsan goes to the audience and picks up Bushra Ansai jee, like he does every year, not that we are complaining ;)But this time around as soon as the poor lady joins Ahsan, he completely forgets he asked her to join him and just grooves to his well-rehearsed dance number while completely ignoring her.  Ahsan we enjoy the fun moves you do with Bushra jee every year and missed them this time around. Also, wow Kubra Khan is a great dancer!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTe-wFTB_1Y/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTe_vCZhcda/

2:30am

Reema Khan gives a performance of a lifetime! Totally loved her choice of songs, costume, choreography and the entire performance. They don’t call her the queen bee for nothing!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTfEC2FBqpU/

3:10am

The last award for the night is done!

3:20am

Well just like the LSA’s somewhere between the live coverage I didn’t really take a photo of myself, spotted Maya Ali ( she is such a sweetheart by the way) so took a photo with her.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTgcxADBkoq/

3:30am

Some post awards socializing where people are deciding where to go and have food given we have been sitting on our seats for a good 5 hours now. While the Karachi guests go back to the hotel where a lavish buffet awaits them we Lahore-wallahs go and have whatever we can find at this hour.

So here’s what all happened at the awards. Hope you enjoyed this post! Stay tuned, we will be doing a fashion post where we will tell you who looked fab and who looked drab

Fawad Khan and wife’s new photoshoot renews our faith in love

Fawad Khan and wfe, Sadaf Khan. Photo By: Masala.com

Love her or hate her but you can’t be Mrs. Fawad Khan! When Fawad rose to prominence, it had been a few good years to his marriage and boy were we jealous! Slowly and steadily, though, our jealously might have died down but lo and behold, an intimate photo shoot has surfaced on the internet of the Khans.

Sohai Ali Abro to play “The Motorcycle Girl” in Adnan Sarwar’s next biopic!

Adnan Sarwar made a name for himself by making biopic ‘Shah’ (2015) based on the life of boxing champion Syed Hussain Shah. The low-budgeted film with no star power was highly appreciated for its message and bringing the story of forgotten hero to life. The gifted filmmaker is now gearing up for his next in the series of biopics, he dubbed as “Heroes Trilogy”, chronicaling the stories of people hailing from modest backgrounds and achieving big in life.

His next biopic is based on the boundary-breaking journeys of Zenith Irfan aka “The Motorcycle Girl” who, at age of 20, is thought to be the first Pakistani female to have made a solo motorcycle journey through the northern areas of the country.

Mikaal Zulfiqar and Humaima Malick to star together in an upcoming film!

Mikaal Zulfiqar is surely on a film signing spree! With three films Ae Dil Meray Chal Ray, Na Band Na Baraati and The Trial already in production, Mikaal just gave his nod to another feature film titled Qaid where he will share screen with actress Humaima Malick.

This Seema Tahir film will be produced under the ‘One Films’ banner which is the newly launched film division for Tv One. Shooting begins after Eid, with the locations for the shoot being Kashmir, Karachi, and London.

Talking to Galaxy Lollywood Mikaal revealed ‘I play a London-based Pakistani lawyer in this social thriller where we will be shedding light on an issue. Humaima Malick is playing one of the female leads while we are in talks with actresses like Armeena Khan, Sarrish Khan for the other lead role. The script is really interesting and I’m sure the audiences will enjoy this film’

We wish Mikaal all the best for this film and can’t wait for more updates from this film. You stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for all updates.

Will Salman Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Tubelight’ release on Eid in Pakistan?

It is a bumpy road for Bollywood to make its way to Pakistani cinemas! The Indian films not just have to go through tough, and sometimes unfair, censoring process but are also resisted by the local filmmakers and stakeholders. One occasion which always causes a rift between local and Bollywood releases is Eid-ul-Fitr, mostly known for a Salman Khan movie for last few years. This year around the attempts to stall the release of his upcoming film ‘Tubelight’ have already been started, even before its teaser is out.

According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistan Film Distributors Association and the Pakistan Film Producers Association, along with some local filmmakers, are trying to stall the release of ‘Tubelight’ on Eid in Pakistan. The reason behind these obstructive attempts is to support the local releases lined up for Eid. It is feared that the head-to-head contest with a Bollywood biggie would not be in interest of the local content makers. As it has often happened in the past, the local releases may not get their due share this time around as well.

‘Mah e Mir’ bags two awards at the 7th Dada Saheb Film Festival in India

The critical success of Anjum Shahzad’s ‘Mah e Mir’ is phenomenal. The film was released almost a year ago but it has been rocking the festivals and amassing critical appraise since then. The film recently bagged Recognition Award at the 5th Hum Awards and now it has also won big at a film festival in India.

‘Mah e Mir’ was recently screened at the 7th Dada Saheb Film Festival in Delhi where it  bagged awards for Best Film and Best Music. This is indeed a huge achievement for the film!

Is Yasir Hussain’s honest mistake worth putting his head on a stick?

I am sure by now almost all of you know about the Yasir Hussain incident that happened at the HUM Awards last night. For those unaware, Ahsan Khan won the award for Best Actor in a Negative Role and Best Actor Jury for drama serial ‘Uddari,’ where he played a child molester. When Ahsan came on stage to collect his award, host Yasir Hussain made a remark ‘ Agar child molester itnay khoobsurat hotay hain toh main bhi child ban jaon.’

Now before jumping to any conclusions, just stop for a minute and ask yourself these questions. Do you think anyone in their right mind would want to crack such a joke? That any script-writer would actually write something like this to be said at an award function with a live audience which will be televised later on? That anyone can be so insensitive and pass such a remark?

Exactly, no!

And same is the case with Yasir. Contrary to popular belief, he never wrote this line and it wasn’t a part of the script! It was neither planned nor was it thought out! In spontaneity, he said something out loud which he shouldn’t have.

Hosting an event is not an easy job and the job gets twice as hard if you are known for your comic timing and everyone expects a punch line from you whenever you open your mouth. So on the spur of the moment, just to elicit some laughter he passed this as a comic remark which definitely came out wrong.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BThTM4WAA8M/?taken-by=yasir.hussain131&hl=en

Has he apologized? Yes, he shared a video and a note on his Instagram page, excerpts from which go, ‘I regret saying it, it was a slip of the tongue that happened in the spur of the moment. It was no way meant to undermine the delicate issue’.

The issue should end right here shouldn’t it? But no, the social media isn’t happy with the apology or with Yasir and posts, hate messages, and even threats, etc., continue to be shared on different social media platforms.

I think that has to do with the fact that Yasir is not the kind of celebrity we are accustomed to. He doesn’t have a PR team writing press releases for him, he doesn’t have a manager handling his social media presence, he doesn’t have an image consultant to guide him in his public life matters, he doesn’t even have a stylist creating looks for him!

This may be no excuse for blurting out something such insensitive, but get into his shoes for a minute and think about it. Haven’t we all said stuff which we didn’t mean to say and later regretted saying? Is every situation in our lives perfect hundred out of hundred times? No. Similarly, Yasir said something he shouldn’t have, feels remorse on the issue and has apologized, what else can he do? Discover time travel and correct his mistake?

Having had a chance to interact with Yasir a couple of times I can vouch for the fact that Yasir is just a simple man who loves his craft and has been working as actor/writer for years now, because that’s what he does best. He is just a guy trying to put a smile on your face because that’s what he is like as a person;always laughing and cracking jokes. He made a genuine mistake, we all condemned it, he sincerely apologized and I think we should just end things here and move on.

Please don’t massacre an artist’s career just for a few clicks!

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb promises tax exemptions for the film industry at Hum Awards

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb announced the government’s plan of incentivizing the film industry of Pakistan at 5th Hum Awards in Lahore last night. She promised that the film industry will be ‘tax exempted’ in coming months and announced the opening of ‘film financing’ for the first time in the history of the country.

She assured that the multi-sectoral incentive will benefit not just producers and directors but also artists and people behind the camera. She also acknowledged the role of the corporate sector in helping the film industry grow and revealed the plan of tax exempting the income spent on the film production.
