After all that its now time for our last post on the Lux Style Awards, which is the style file. In this post, team Galaxy Lollywood takes out its claws and dissects some celebrity looks from the 16th Lux Style Awards. So without further ado, here goes.

Mahira Khan (2)-min-min

Mahira Khan

Ifra: The epitome of grace! She totally stole the show with her sexy black attire paired perfectly with minimal makeup and beach wave curls.

Kahkshaan: Damn Mahira slays every time! Please give her all the awards from my side! Kudos to Omayr Waqar for working his magic yet again with Queen Khan!

Iman: Raeezaadi Mahira Khan stuns yet again, loving her fitted black dress which compliments her body so well. Though I think she could have played more with her hairstyle.

Momin:  She looks hot as hell! Loving this new fierce side to Mahira.

Maya Ali-min-min

Maya Ali

Kahkshaan and Ifra: Being a very tricky color, Maya Ali pulled off this all red ensemble very very smartly! And we are glad she did not play it safe!

Iman: With just a basket missing little red riding hood made her way to the red carpet. I think she should have worn a different color set of earrings or well just added some other color which would have separated her from the red carpet itself.

Momin: Interestingly, what she looked in person and what she looks here in pictures is two different stories. She was a bit too red while walking on the red carpet but here in the pictures, she looks perfect. So all’s well that gets good pictures no?

Syra Shahroz-min-min

Syra Shehroz

Ifra: A cute, simple yet chic look.

Iman: The white off-shoulder gown looks amazing on her, it is just perfect for her cute girl next door image.  Like how she used minimal jewelry and didn’t go overboard with make-up.

Momin: Loving this look of hers! And wow she surely knows how to look cute and sexy at the same time!

Ayesha Omar-min-min

Ayesha Omar

Momin:  Definitely one of the most memorable looks of the night! Kudos to stylist Rao Ali Khan for making sure that Ayesha looks sensual and not vulgar. This one was a winner for me!

Iman: For me Ayesha Omar rocked it! She is the one actress I actually look forward to. For me she is Pakistans Sonam Kapoor.

Kahkshaan and Ifra: Another ‘khubsurat’ woman , whose look left us wondering why! The last minute disaster of a dress , paired with smoky eyes and that tight ponytail did not do justice to Ayeshas look at all!

Mawra Hocane-min-min

Mawra Hocane

Iman: Sick and tired of actresses and their Disney princess moments, when will donning poofy gowns on red carpet end? And that cindrella carriage clutch! Please. No.

Ifra: Just out of a fairytale. No less than a princess! And her little carriage clutch added the extra oomph factor to her look!

Momin: I dont know why she does it :/ Choose the worst possible outfit, pair it with the worst possible accessories and create the worst possible look.

Kahkshaan: Thank goodness for stylists in Pakistan making celebrities look like wonders! 10/10 to Ania Fawad and Natasha salon for giving Mawra a pretty pink look.

Amina Sheikh-min-min

Amina Sheikh

Ifra: Aminas whole look was very bland, maybe if she had worked on her hair and makeup, it would have been very different!

Kahkshaan: A mess of a dress! A run down look on the whole!

Iman: Though almost everyone disliked Aamina’s look I on the other hand like this white fairy tale ensemble. I think she could have looked better without the black belt, and with her hair down but this is also a decent look.

armeena

Armeena Khan

Kahkshaan and Ifra: Being a beautiful woman, how we wish someone could have styled Armeena because this casual look does not work in her favor at all!

Iman: Did Armeena come to the LSA’s by mistake? Was she going out with friends for a casual lunch maybe? She looks pretty but I think she should have worn something according to the event she was attending.

Momin: A bit too casual but hey guys she was there on time at the hi-tea, unlike most other actresses who made an appearance way after the awards had begun!

Sadaf Kanwal-min-min

Sadaf Kanwal

Ifra: From the dress to hair to makeup everything is on fleek.

Kahkshaan: Totally model like! The right combo of the sleek bob and black dress!

Iman: Sadaf shows us how she is from the fashion side of the industry, totally loving this edgy look of hers and that bob hairstyle by Nabila is like a cherry on top.

Momin: Love love love! A bit too risque for Pakistani audiences but definitely a killer look.

Tooba Siddiqui-min-min

Tooba Siddiqui

Iman: Wondering how to pull a peplum off? Just look at Tooba Siddiqui.

Kahkshaan: Another winner in black. Tooba looks like a million bucks!

Ifra: Flaunting her attire with a perfect sultry makeover

Zhalay Sarhadi-min-minZhalay Sarhadi

Iman: Zhalay looks bleh! Don’t like it! Blue, Ruffles, Organza are all a very bad combination.

Kahkshaan: A confusion between ruffles, organza, and unattractive colors, Zhalay could have done much better.

Sanam Saeed-min-min
Sanam Saeed

Iman: Sanam’s dress is a bit ill fitted and doesn’t look that good. She could have worn something special.

Kahkshaan: Emerging from a model to actress, Sanam has not let go of her persona which clearly shows in this monochrome outfit. Less is definitely more!

Ifra: Chic!

reema khan

Reema Khan

Iman: Who would have thought that Reema would make it to the miss list. Don’t know what she was thinking with that sea-green silk gown of hers.

Ifra: Simple yet elegant!!

Kahkshaan: Reema’s look for the show was decent but somehow did not mesmerize. It lacked the x factor!

Meera-min-min

Meera

Iman: Ahh my eyes, please someone take all that light away. Meera Ji was all glitter.

Kahkshaan: Oscar trophy maybe? Meera jee might think she is only 16 but sequin dresses are a thing of the past! Although kudos to her makeup and hair stylist for keeping it age appropriate in that department!

Ifra: All glitz and glam!! She looked stunning!!

Shehryar Munawar-min-min

Sheheryar Munawar

Iman:  Someone from the 80’s called and they want their clothes back. Sheheryar being one of the heartthrobs looks good in almost whatever he wears but he looks anything but good in this grandfather attire.

Kahkshaan: Sheheryar played it too safe and makes me want to yawn at this look especially because of the nude colors.

Ifra: Expected a better look!

Momin:  Stylist Rao and Sheheryar are a killer combo but somehow the magic didn’t work this time around.

Ali Zafar-min-min

Ali Zafar

Iman: I am sorry I just can’t take my eyes off that hideous braids of his. What was he thinking? Ali Zafar, you might be a rockstar when it comes to singing and acting but fashion statements? Na Aa.

Kahkshaan: Working around the safest combo, Ali did hit the right notes but the braided hair and kajal would freak anyone out!

Ifra: Ali’s braid is a big turn off!

Gohar Rasheed and Nauman Ejaz-min-min

Gohar Rasheed

Ifra: Scary wardrobe, please stick to plain tuxedos and suits!

Kahkshaan: Gohar Rasheed does it again! The mish-mash of a blazer looks more like a curtain then an ensemble fit for the red carpet. Please take a cue from your peers!

Iman: From unbrushed hair to wearing this weird curtain style blazer. Gohar Rasheed shows you how not to dress on a red carpet.

Mikaal Zulfiqar-min-min

Mikaal Zulfiqaar

Iman: A white tux is something not everyone can pull but on Mikaal it looks like it’s just made for him. Love this classy look of his.

Ifra: Mikaal Should have worn another combo as this one is something we have seen him a lot in before. But he looks hot!

Kahkshaan: A good looking guy can pull off anything but a guy with a fair complexion should go for a darker color to enhance his looks thus Mikaal gets the thumbs down from my side!

Momin: You girls are hard to please no? I thought he was the best-dressed guy on the red carpet.

That’s it for this year!

Box Office Update: ‘Chalay Thay Saath’ joins other washouts of 2017!

It might sound little early to say, but the signs are not that prosperous for the latest Pakistani release ‘Chalay Thay Saath’.

Syra Sheroz starer rom-com, featuring mostly new faces and set in the picturesque North, released last Friday to the lackluster response. According to unofficial, unconfirmed sources, the film could collect meager 75 lacs in first week only. The film has entered its second week and may cross the mark of 1 crore in its lifetime run.

As compared to other releases of the year, ‘Chalay Thay Saath’ did well than washouts ‘Raasta’, ‘Thora Jee Lay’ and ‘Whistle’ actually. Unfortunately, not a single film could do well on box office this year until now. Here is the tally of approximate collections of 2017 releases so far.

  • Balu Mahi – 3.0 crore
  • Chalay Thay Saath – 0.75 crore*
  • Raasta – 0.60 crore
  • Thora Jee Le – 0.35 crore
  • Whistle – 0.05 crore

*still playing in the cinemas.

Stay tuned for more box office updates.

Here’s what all happened at the 16th Lux Style Awards 2017!

The 16th Annual Lux Style Awards took place in Karachi last week and just like every year the night was full of celebrities, glamor, and lots of entertainment. We provided you with live updates on our social media platforms letting you know who won, who lost and told you about all the major happenings from the event.

But what about those little details which make up the complete experience and nobody really talks about them. Well worry not, our editor Momin Ali Munshi was there and in this write-up will tell you all the on ground gossip and happenings from arguably the biggest event of the year!

So here is a personalized timeline of what all happened at the coveted Lux Style Awards.

3:00pm

Given I had to cover the event for you readers I wanted to be there on time and since the card mentioned 3:30 pm as high tea, leaving at 3 pm sounded like a good option. So left for the venue and shared my ride with the talented singer Masuma Anwar.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEPsHKBClf/?taken-by=galaxylollywood

3:45pm

We were there at the venue and adjacent to the area where the red-carpet and the main ceremony would take place was a little marquee of sorts where the hi-tea was just starting. Needless to say, we were amongst the first few to arrive.  It’s worth mentioning that Bilal Ashraf was already there. Kudos to this one for being punctual!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEJ9cHhX-k/

5:00pm

By then quite a few celebrities had arrived at the venue and everyone was just socializing, having food and drinking some lemonade to beat the heat. Celebrities present included Armeena Khan, Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry, Zahid Ahmed and others.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTET9VRB5mn/

6:00pm

It was time to move the main red carpet area. Now while I don’t have a photo which shows how beautifully it was all organized but trust me it was one of the grandest and most well planned red carpets.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEVml0hD8u/

7:30pm

By then the red carpet was almost done and we were asked to go to the main area. We will be doing a separate post with the style file and who wore what so look out for that. Here are a few highlights from the red carpet.

  • Amina Sheikh walked with her husband Mohib Mirza and the couple was happily posing for the media. Lots of boomerangs and fun videos were made with these two.
  • Sheheryar Munawar made an appearance with his mother and brother. Cute no?
  • Lollywood diva Meera seemed to be high on something and was acting all weird on the red carpet. Want proof? Well, check out the shout out she gave to our blog and #Meera on Instagram will provide you more of her crazy antics.
  • Patiently waiting to walk his turn was Atif Aslam who then was tired of Meera and her theatrics so decided to just skip the red carpet and move to the main show area.
  • Ali Zafar walked with wife Ayesha and debuted his new braid.
  • Quite a few other celebrities walked the red carpet but one definitely felt that the star power was missing. There were lots of fashion people on the red carpet but prominent faces from TV/film were missing.  We definitely missed  Humayun Saeed, Fawad Khan, Fahad Mustafa, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Yasir Hussain, Feroze Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Saba Qamar, Hareem Farooq, Sohai Ali Abro, Iman Ali, Urwa Hocane and Sajal Aly. Moreover, Lollywood veterans like Shaan Shahid, Moammar Rana, Javed Sheikh, Resham, Noor etc were also not there!

8:00pm

The awards started with a funny video featuring Osman Khalid Butt and Faiza Saleem. It had us lol-ing on our seats.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEkPQYBOTv/

8:10pm

Atif Aslam and the much talked about National Anthem. Goosebumps much? After the powerful performance, Atif was joined on stage by new singers Aima Baig, Mooro and SomewhatSuper.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEoqRChIl0/?taken-by=galaxylollywood

8:20pm

Atif began his first ever hosting gig which started with him addressing the elephant in the room: the fact that Atif Aslam was hosting an event! Osman Khalid Butt made way on stage and they did a little comedy act which was on point. This was followed by the first set of music awards.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEpI34BJg3/

8:40pm

Bilal Ashraf comes on the stage to talk about Janaan. We, the audience are left confused as to what is happening. But apparently, all best film nominees will be given a chance to come on stage and talk about their film (like all that we heard in their promotional campaigns wasn’t enough)! Anyhow Bilal came and ranted about how Janaan is nominated for Best Film whereas Armeena and Bilal have no Best Actor nomination. Ouch!

9:00pm

Osman Khalid Butt is back on stage with another skit. He owns the stage from the word go and remind us why comedy is his forte. He was joined by Faiza Saleem and Canadian boys Shaam Idrees and Shahveer Jaffry. While Faiza brought her A game, the boys gave a performance that was easily forgettable, stick to YouTube videos eh?

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEqkYgBPDN/

9:10pm

The skit soon transformed into a roast session where Mahira Khan (played by a comedian) was at the receiving end of all the burns. From her limited expressions to the ‘age’ factor everything was fair game here. While we were just cringing at the jibes (in a good way *pfft*) out of nowhere came Mahira Khan herself and the epic rap battle took place.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTExPzVByD5/

9:20pm

Some more awards were given out but then Ahsan Khan won for  the Best Actor TV and gave a powerful speech where he talked about the increasing intolerance and how we need to educate the masses. Loved this one!

9:40pm

Time for the first dance performance! Mawra Hocane comes on stage and shows us why she should never be allowed to dance at an award ceremony. I say that because she was phenomenal at sister Urwa Hocane’s mehndi. Reema Khan soon joined her and made sure everyone knows that she has still got those moves and nazakat. Then Reema and Mawra performed together, obviously not a good idea because Reema completely stole the show.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTEzpJ_B_Mh/

10:00pm

Atif Aslam comes back and shows off his impersonation skills. The Sajjad Ali one was hilarious!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTE0yvbh8kr/

10:10pm

Some fashion awards were given. Hasnain Lehri won Best Male Model for the second year in a row. He gave a heartfelt speech where he shed a few tears too. Aww!

10:30pm

Imran Abbas comes on stage, sings a song to pay tribute to all the fantastic individuals we lost last year.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTE1VjVhTM6/

10:40pm

A fashion segment, which honestly nobody cared about given the plethora of fashion weeks we have. Interestingly HUM Showcase started the very next day.

11:00pm

Time for the second dance performance. This one features the Teefa In Trouble jodi Ali Zafar and Maya Ali in never before seen avatars. Loved every bit of this performance. Wish it lasted a bit longer.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTE6wGohvk9/

11:10pm

Time for the film awards. Here is the list of winners. Some interesting tidbits from this section.

  • Sheheryar Munawaar commented how the producer of the film had told Sherry boy that he was the lead of the film and now he is winning Best Actor Supporting Role which has him confused. Oh, and he was the producer himself!
  • Wardrobe designer for Actor In Law Yasir got on stage the most times given the entire film team was absent and Yasir had to collect all the awards. His speeches were awkward, to say the least.
  • Mahira Khan won Best Actress and in her speech said she does not deserve it, we agree!

12:00am

Atif Aslam comes to stage one last time to pay tribute to late Junaid Jamshed. While we were just getting into the zone and the tears were on the brink of our eyes, we heard an announcement ‘Ladies and Gentlemen thank you for joining us, the show is over!’ #WorstTributeEver

12:10am

The awards were over and I realized that somewhere between all the live coverage I almost forgot to take a photo of myself. Rushed to the red carpet, saw Maya Ali standing and took a photo with her. My only photo from the LSA!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTFKio9BEJP/

12:30am

Some post-award socializing and everyone was ready to call it a night. Not really though, everyone then moved the party to show director HSY’s mansion in Karachi where the after party was just picking up the heat and went on till the wee hours of the morning.

So here’s what all happened at the awards. Hope you enjoyed this post! Stay tuned, we will be doing a fashion post where we will tell you who looked fab and who looked drab!

Junaid Khan wants to marry Mahira Khan NOT!

Junaid Khan is one of those few actors who almost never gets into any controversies, focuses solely on work and has a goody two shoes image. So we were in for a surprise when we came across the news that the dishy actor wanted to marry Mahira Khan.

News of Junaid Khans desire to marry Mahira started  making rounds after he answered a question asked by QYT in an interview which was ‘If given a choice who would you avoid, date, or marry. Urwa, Saba or Mahira’

In the same order Khan names his preferences that he would avoid Urwa, date Saba and would want to marry Miss Khan making her Mrs. Khan. We at Galaxy Lollywood decided to ask him why this was becoming such big news, especially because the whole interview itself was quite fun, and if there was more to this question.

‘Qasim asked me the question and I had to answer. It’s just one of those things. Doesn’t mean more than that. I don’t know why every one thinks I would actually want to marry Mahira. I just chose the option I felt at the moment.’

In another question Khan describes his ideal woman as someone who can rock the no make up look, so we asked him if he meant Mahira. To this he replied:

A. A lot of women can rock the no make up look.
B. I’ve only worked with Mahira on sets and actually never seen her no make up look. So there, hope that answers the question.

Clearly Junaid is happily settled and has no real intentions or desires of marrying Mahira. But we wonder….what if 😉

The ‘Yalghaar’ trailer is out and it’s blah!

1 year, 9 months and 8 days!

That is how much time has passed since the teaser/first look of the film came out.

Needless to say, this a huge gap, and that expectations surrounding the film have only increased. More so because the teaser of the film was quite impactful and had people, us included, gushing over the visuals that had left everyone hungry for more. Yesterday, we finally got a chance to see the trailer of the film which will be releasing worldwide this Eid-ul-Fitr and we are disappointed!

The trailer opens with Humayun Saeed’s character (the main antagonist), then comes Shaan Shahid (the protagonist) and this very start leaves a very 90’s Lollywood taste. Then we are introduced to the other characters before the trailer jumps into its main theme and all we see until the end is a monotone playing of scenes with no highs and lows.

The trailer of ‘Yalghaar’ is probably the perfect example of how not to make a trailer. A well-made trailer is a mini story on its own which hooks you from the first scene itself and then over the course of the 2 minutes, it takes you on a journey with leaving you wanting more as it ends. The Yalghaar trailer, however, is just a collection of scenes from the film which seem to have no fluidity.

Furthermore, given it’s the biggest budgeted film of Pakistan, we were hoping to see that it translates in the visuals and other details which unfortunately didn’t offer much. Given how our cinema has been growing at an accelerating rate and the film has been in the making for quite a few years, one could assume that the picture quality looks bad because of that. But then hey, the teaser of the film, which came out in 2015, still offers a fantastic visual experience. Moreover, the teaser is rather well made with the selection of shots, music and all. Honestly, it could very well have been the trailer!

Here’s hoping that the film delivers and lives up to its hype, and the team works better on the other promotional material of the film.

Here is the trailer.

UK-based Pakistani filmmaker Asim Abbasi talks about ‘Cake’ and more!

Many directors are debuting at the silver screen in coming months and years with several interesting projects in the pipeline. The future of our film industry, undoubtedly, lies on the shoulders of these men and women, coming up with novel ideas and big plans to change the face of cinema. Among them is the UK-based Pakistani filmmaker Asim Abbasi, who is on our radar since he revealed he’s making ‘Cake’ for us earlier this year.

‘Cake’ is not a dessert but a film starring the dynamic trio of Adnan Malik, Aamina Sheikh and Sanam Saeed. The film has been in making for couple of months and is lined up to release by end of this year.

The teaser of Yalghaar came out around two years back, and since then it has been one of the most anticipated films of Pakistan film industry. Eid after Eid, and date after date, we had just our good hopes, and a sole three and a half minute teaser for self consolation as the film got delayed on more than one occasions.

All the anticipation, however, comes to end now, as the Shaan Shahid, Humayun Saeed, Bilal Ashraf, Adnan Siddiqui, Ayesha Omar, Sana Bucha, and Alizey Nasir starrer, Yalghaar has finally been set for the date of Eid-ul-Fitr 2017.
