Jurm Builds Suspense with Gripping Crime Story

Jurm series cover

A newly married couple, looking every bit in love as one would expect young lovers to do, go out for a romantic dinner. The husband gifts the wife an expensive piece of jewelry as a sign of his love for her. He also surprises her by taking her to the roadside dhabba which holds sentimental value to her, further cementing that his affection for her is not superficial but genuine and devoted.

The husband is attentive to the wife and also caring towards the driver by not making him feel left when the two lovers enjoy the wife’s favorite piping hot cup of Kashmiri chai. He’s the perfect man and she’s a lucky girl for having found such a sensitive, caring, and devoted man as her life partner. But then, the magical night turns nightmarish when their car gets attacked by a group of masked men who kidnap the wife, beat the husband and leave him bleeding on the side of a secluded road.

This is how the story of Geo Entertainment’s mystery thriller mini-series Jurm kickstarts. Jurm stars Wahaj Ali, Durefishan Saleem, Atiqa Odho, Tooba Siddiqui, Mohammad Ehteshammudin, Tazneen Hussain, Zhalay Sarhadi, and Maha Hassan. Written by Shah Yasir and directed by Mehreen Jabbar, the mini-series is a rather unconventional offering from 7th Sky Entertainment. Unconventional does not mean bad though because the first two episodes of the show have us sitting up and crying out, ‘where have you been all our lives?!’

For the explicit reason of keeping this review spoiler free we won’t be mentioning any major reveals that have happened in the two episodes so far.

Switching Between Past and Present

In a mystery-thriller genre balance is of utmost importance. Say too little and the audience will be much too confused about the happenings. Say too much and the audience will feel belittled with their intelligence being questioned. Jurm, thankfully, strikes the balance perfectly and it is all thanks to Shah Yasir’s tight screenplay and Mehreen Jabbar’s expert direction.

The narrative of Jurm switches between the past and the present. Any development in the present is accompanied with a flashback to the past giving the audience a new context and point of view of feeling about the development. Some of the flashback scenes have the helpful text on the screen telling the audience at which point of time that particular scene is happening but not all flashback scenes have that. However, that doesn’t cause any confusion as the color grading of the present and past sequences is distinct enough that we can recognize the difference of time.

The Art of Direction

The brilliance of Jurm lies in the masterful way the story is shown, not told. Not once does the drama info-dump about the characters or their situations. Instead, it shows us these characters revealing their layers little by little. The direction style has been linked to that of 2014 Hollywood thriller Gone Girl by many eagle-eyed viewers.

For instance, Ayla (Durefishan Saleem) has been raised by her single mother Naseema (Tazneen Hussain) to be a confident woman who doesn’t take kindly to being treated rudely. The audience isn’t told that but it is shown in the way Ayla reacts to her future mother-in-law Shahana’s (Atiqa Odho) dismissive remarks for her.

Every Character is a Secret in Jurm

In Jurm’s world every character has a secret and there is more to the characters that meet the eye. What the characters appear to be and what they actually are don’t necessarily coincide. One theme of the story is how humans are perceived not as individuals but how they are connected to others.

The young vlogger and budding crime journalist Ashley Victor (Maha Hassan) is the only person who bothers to question who Ayla Nadeem was beyond being the multi-millionaire Mujib Zaman’s (M. Ehteshammudin) daughter-in-law? The answer lies not in the obvious but in the hidden that people often don’t even want to bother digging into.

Wahaj Ali as Daniyal is Impressive in Jurm

Undoubtedly, the biggest draw towards the show is nation’s current heartthrob Wahaj Ali. However, Jurm is a great reminder of what actually makes Wahaj a great addition to any drama’s cast. He doesn’t try to stand out but completely blends himself in the canvas the story is trying to build. His character Daniyal appears to be, for all intents and purposes, a harmless fellow who is bit of a loner.

He doesn’t have his father’s ruthlessness or his mother’s low emotional intelligence. However, Daniyal too has many secrets that peek from the shadows now and again. Is he really that innocent? Or does he have anything to do with Ayla’s kidnapping? The drama keeps the audience questioning both his innocence and guilt.

How Will Jurm End?

For all keen viewer there are hints sprinkled all through the episodes hinting at the possible ways the story might end up going. Instead of having disjointed scenes or character moments that don’t get anywhere like most of the mainstream dramas, Jurm has a cohesive screenplay in place that is leading the audience one step at a time towards the destination it has already planned for itself right from the start. Not many dramas do that, frankly more dramas should start doing it.

The mini-series is set to conclude this week. We suggest if you haven’t watched it yet to most definitely check it out. And try to avoid any spoilers if you can; more than half the fun of this drama is to experience the reveals first hand. Not doing so will be a jurm in its own right.

Bandish Season 2 Starts From Where It Left With Chilling First Episode

Bandish Season 2 cast

The arrival of Bandish Season 2 piqued the interest of spectators. When Bandish first aired in 2019, audiences were hooked from the get-go due to its titillating story, star cast, and spot-on direction.

However, the success of the first season was earned. Initially, people were very disappointed in the show and referred to it as a “comedy-drama” because of the completely different storyline and new take on horror stories.

Luckily enough, this doesn’t seem to be happening in Bandish 2. The first episode of Bandish 2 aired on Friday night and has already received almost a million views on YouTube with positive feedback from viewers.

So, what do we think about the episode?

Beware: Spoilers ahead!

The Execution and Storyline

Bandish, the series known for the storyline of black magic, jealousy, and greed, gives the viewer a clear introduction to the plot.

The audience have discovered from the very first episode that the elder brother Kamran separated the younger brother Furqan due to a property dispute. While both the brothers are now dead, Furqan’s wife — Khalida — is attempting to reclaim her share from her sister-in-law Sumaira and seeks help from a magician.

In season one, the story was opened just before the climax, but this time the backstory of the enchantress has been opened in the very first episode. We can’t help but wonder, if the revelation had come a little later, wouldn’t the story have become more interesting?

Where the relationship between sister in laws has deteriorated in the very first episode when Khalida asked for Minahil (Sumaira’s daughter) proposal for his son Arman.

However, despite Manahil and Ahmer’s eight-year love affair, their families’ previous interaction has not been favorable.

Humira’s husband and Ahmer’s father Jamal, resists the interaction between both families, it seems difficult to convince him to make a new bond. However, Humaira and Sumaira’s relationship is still unclear, viewers are confused that they are sisters or neighbours. It’s a bit off!

The Feeling of Horror is Palpable

In terms of directing and production value, the promo sufficiently wowed spectators. The previous season’s horror soundtrack, ominous lighting, Amna Ilyas’ terrified expression, and a glimpse of the possession scene in the promo all contributed to the audience’s high expectations for the production quality and direction.

The old house and the cobwebs shown in the first episode succeeded in evoking a sense of terror.

The director deserves appreciation for establishing that the house is messy but the garden is well maintained — in effect implying that a facade has been created.

Aabis Raza – who previously directed Bandish season 1 — was lauded for his spectacular direction and we hope this time around he lives up to the audience’s expectations as well, because filming scary moments and making them come real is no piece of cake.

Will Bandish Season 2 Recreate the Perfect Paranormal Experience?

Affan Waheed plays Sameer and judging by the comments on YouTube, his admirers are overjoyed to see him; meanwhile Aamna Ilyas plays the role of Vaniya — Affan’s wife.

However, their daughter Hoorain, is depicted to be possessed in the promo; watching how the young star performs in these scenes is undoubtedly a struggle for the director as well.

If the first episode is anything to go by, viewers are in for a thrilling ride through haunted houses and black magic. We at Galaxy Lollywood will keep an eye on the serial and keep viewers updated.

Renowned Stars Question Pakistani Dramas, Storylines and Casting Norms

Pakistani Stars

Whatever we see on television moves on to reflect and shape common prejudices in the society. Perceptions are influenced by media content and in a society like Pakistan things like domestic violence, age gaps, problematic families, extra marital affairs and all such tabooed subjects, only flare up the misogynistic views.

Recently a few stars connected with the industry have started questioning the casting norms and stereotypes in the dramas we see on screen.

Stereotypes On Television Questioned By Stars

If we look into our television dramas that have aired over the past two to three decades, we get an idea of the stereotypical content we have been fed for ages. Women have been targeted as victims of domestic abuse based on their color and dowry problem.

If not that, older women have been typecast in older roles while the male actors belonging to the same age group, continue to star as the leads. Take a very common example of Farq. Sehar Khan happens to be half of Faysal Quraishi’s age and yet the later has been starring with her as the lead. But on the other hand, Laila Wasti, who happens to be 5 years younger than Faysal in age, has started to appear in dramas where she plays the mother to female actors who happen to star along Quraishi as his heroin.

This leads to the belief that women age earlier than men and a female actress cannot be cast as the lead in a drama once they cross a certain age threshold whereas men, who are older than them continue to appear as heroes. And it is not only us, recently actress Mahnoor Baloch, who is as graceful as ever, questioned the same.

Mahnoor Baloch Questions Casting Practices

Mahnoor Baloch has not been making many appearances in dramas recently. The actress with her acting credentials needs no reference when it comes to her craft but according to Mahnoor, the Pakistani drama industry lacks diversity having cast women in a set type of roles once they age. “It’s a pity that our industry is still developing in which a certain type of role is designed for women, in which the same roles are shown, for them its age limits are also set,” said Baloch, in one of her recent interviews.

Bushra Ansari Talks of Violence on TV

Not only Mahnoor Baloch, veteran actress Bushra Ansari also recently questioned the type of content we have been bombarded with on our television screens. Ansari talked about the repeated occurrences of scenes and storylines filled with domestic abuse and slaps delivered to female characters. According to Bushra Ansari, who has been portraying the role of Maa Begum in popular drama serial Tere Bin and has delivered her fair share of slaps to the actress, “The dramatic and aggressive character like Maa Begum is challenging for me as aggression and negativity are not a natural part of my personality.”

Ansari shared how it gets agitating for her when she has to deliver slaps to fellow female characters as the scripts demand so and hopes that violence on TV will be limited to criminals who deserve it.

Behroze Sabzwari Mentions Dragged Meaningless Scripts

It is great to see our stars waking up to realize that our drama audience is not as insensible and nonsensical as the markers have labelled them to be. Recently veteran actor Behroz Sabzwari also questioned the problematic storylines that we have been watching on television. For him, meaningless scripts whether serious or comedy are nothing but a drag. Sabzwari talked about the recently ended Ramzan special Chand Tara on Hum TV stating how it was a complete drag with a storyline a far cry from reality.

What We Think

It is common knowledge the content creators use stereotypes to present viewers with something they can easily relate to but what they often forget is the fact that such representation, that only brings across one side of the story can have more negative impacts that a positive one.

Viewers form opinion from what they see on television and it is high time that our television industry and the bigger players in the ocean focus more on their responsibility of bringing a positive change and making a constructive society rather than raking in TRPs and moolah with stereotypical representation of gender roles and topics like domestic abuse and meaningless storylines.

Let us know if you agree with our thoughts about stereotypical representations on television and how do you think our stars questioning such content will make a difference in the future?

Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri Sets High Expectations With Breezy First Episode

Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri Cover

With changing times, the tastes of the audience also change. There was a time when Pakistani drama audience gave their attention to more realistic stories and looked for nuanced, grounded performances by seasoned actors. However, there is a change in the trend now. The success of this year’s Ramazan drama hit Fairy Tale is proof that Pakistani drama audiences crave light-hearted content that feature talented young cast.

And the super mega success of a show like Tere Bin, which isn’t any different from a standard Pakistani melodrama, that features a couple with chemistry so powerful that it trumps over all the illogicalities of the narrative yet again affirms the audience’s need to watch beautiful people living out a dreamy and dramatic love story on screen at the end of a day.

Hum TV has taken the best of both these worlds and mixed it beautifully in its latest offering Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri. Written by Rahat Jabeen and directed by Shahid Shafaat, the musical love story features young stars Khushhal Khan and Dananeer Mobeen in lead roles. Its first episode aired this week and judging from its pilot the audience is definitely in for a ride that promises both the magic of first love and the anguish of living in a society that doesn’t always support the idea.

First Glimpse of Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri

The story revolves around Zobia (Dananeer Mobeen) and Saim (Khushhal Khan), two youngsters in their early 20s who have been friends and neighbors all their lives. Saim is a carefree young man who dreams of having a successful music career while Zobia is the pampered youngest child of a joint family expecting her to live her life like the good, obedient, mashriqi girl her older sister Rushna (Noreen Gulwani) is.

However, Zobia is like any youngster who wants to be free from the restrictions her family have placed on her to at least be able to hang out with her friends or just go out shopping on her own. The teasers of the drama have told us enough that the story will show the two friends falling for each other and how their love will be challenged by the zaalim samaj. Will the two young lovers make it or is there fate meant to end in tragedy? Only time will tell.

The Refreshing Romance Between Dananeer and Khushhal

Undoubtedly, the best part of Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri is the chemistry and the dynamic between its two leads. Khushhal and Dananeer share a comfort between them that translates beautifully onscreen in a very natural and breezy chemistry. The way Saim and Zobia behave with each other, be it in their childish bickering that turns to concern for each other within seconds, is solid proof that these two characters have known each other for all their lives so it’s only obvious they are comfortable in each other’s space.

As the drama takes place in Islamabad the shots of the city’s natural beauty and serenity is captured well in frames. The vibe is youthful, the characters are dressed appropriately as per their ages and the social class they belong to. The first episode of Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri has a solid, engaging pace and stays true to its promise of being a musical drama with a song to start proceedings.

A New Take on A Tiring Storyline?

Naturally, a Pakistani drama cannot exist without having its female lead surrounded by the most unsupportive family. Zobia’s family has all the tell-tale signs of being extremely suffocating in the future. With all the emphasis they put on Zobia growing up and putting restrictions on her it wouldn’t be a surprise if the future episodes will dial it up by the hundred. Teasers show us that Zobia will ultimately rebel against her family, and frankly we don’t blame her.

While it is extremely refreshing to watch a young guy and a young girl be friends with each other, it was a bit off-putting when Saim’s friends had one look at Saim and Zobia together and already concluded that the two are in “love”. For a group of friends that includes both boys and girls and judging by the social class they belong to it was quite out of character for them to immediately pair up Saim with Zobia, a girl they hadn’t even met before that night. Can two people just not be friends? It’s 2023 people! Why is the young Gen Z acting so typically old-fashioned?!

The Verdict

Regardless of the minor gripes, Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri hits all the right notes in its first episode. Characters and their dynamics have been established well, the right care has been taken to keep the visual vibe of the show as un-melodramatic as possible, and most especially the episode has the audience hooked to Saim and Zobia’s relationship from the start. Khushhal and Dananeer’s chemistry is a winner and for sure when the drama goes into its romantic phase, this couple will be winning hearts all over. We are definitely seated for this ride!

Mahira Khan’s Return to TV: Treat for fans!

Ali is working with Khan for the very first time. Taking to Instagram, the actress announced that Razia is going to be aired on Express Entertainment.

While it is too soon to predict the storyline, it must be noted that this is the first mini-series to be aired on Express TV. We are excited for Mahira Khan’s return to TV and will keep all fans updated.

Shahroz Sabzwari Believes in the Power of Faith and Gratitude to Tackle Inflation

Shehroz Sabzwari statement

Actor Shahroz Sabzwari has drawn public ire after his latest statement on tackling inflation through faith and gratitude. While talking on a recent Eid show hosted by Rabia Anum on Express TV, younger Sabzwari talked about the importance of sabr and shukr in tackling inflation.

The inflation is on the rise, but if we can be patient in everything, then it will feel as if it is nothing,” he said.

Let Them Eat Cake

Sabzwari’s remarks have been linked with the famous quote by Marie Antoinette after she was told of starvation among her French subjects, and that they couldn’t afford bread. In her distasteful obliviousness, Marie Antoinette asked for the public to eat cake if they can’t afford bread.

Shahroz Sabzwari’s remarks have been linked in the same category, as many believe that they come from obliviousness to the plight of the common man.

Inflation has reached sky-high levels in Pakistan, and many middle-class/lower class citizens are facing the brunt of the economic recession.

Sabzwari, however, belongs to an elite class of individuals that may not have been impacted by inflation as much as the common majority in our country. Many on Twitter pointed out that Shahroz, as the son of a successful actor, and an actor himself may not know what the common man goes through in this Inflation.

Did Shahroz Sabzwari Mean Any Harm?

While the younger Sabzwari has drawn public ire, we do believe that he meant no harm with his statement. At its core Shahroz’s statement is in fact true, and strong belief and gratitude can take you through the toughest of situations. In fact, this statement may have not irked anyone at all, if someone from the lower class talked about being grateful in what you have and tackling inflation through shukr.

We believe the reaction to Shahroz’s statement has more to do with the economic class he comes from than the actual sense in it. Shahroz is correct in identifying the importance of sabr and shukr during these tough times and we at Galaxy Lollywood understand that our country can do with a little more of both.

10 Pakistani Celebrities Who Refuse To Age

Celeb age cover

Social media is a weird place. It really is. Shaista Lodhi recently drew the ire of disgruntled users online who objected to her age and theatrics. But, a second glance at Lodhi will tell you that she is ageing as gracefully as ever. Even though she has been a household name for well over two decade, Shaista is still her young vibrant self and looks the part.

While covering the topic we stumbled across a few Pakistani celebrities, who now, even though have become veterans in their fields, still look as good as the day they started. It seems neither the laws of time or gravity seem to apply to these Pakistani celebrities refusing to age.

Stay with us as we look at the ever young and vibrant lot of our industry:

Mahnoor Baloch

Although not in the public eye for a while, a listicle for celebrities who refuse to age would be incomplete without Mahnoor Baloch. This beautiful actress started out when we are just little kids and today, we’re well in our thirties and Mahnoor Baloch refuses to age. She has been the crush of three generations and perhaps will continue to do so for many more generations to come.

Shaista Lodhi

As graceful as the television host cum actress looks on screen, it is hard to believe Shaista is well past her 30s. In fact, there was a hue and cry about Shaista Lodhi being shy of her age on social media recently, which the actress gracefully tackled. Shaista Lodhi started off her career in 2001 and still looks as gorgeous, only more refined than they day she started, today. This gorgeous actress shows no signs of ageing on her face , leaving hundreds and thousands of her fans wondering what her secret could be.

Iman Ali

Perhaps the laws of time don’t work for Iman Aly. The gorgeous diva is now 42 and is absolutely young and stunning like the day she started. Iman Aly is perhaps one of the most beautiful model and actresses to ever work in the Pakistani industry. Even after her self proclaimed hiatus, Iman Aly continues to rule hearts of her fans around the world.

Shehzad Roy

This singer seems to be aging backwards, defying all laws of time. Shehzad Roy is one of those Pakistani celebrities who keep getting older in years but refuse to age. This 45 year old singer started off with his career in 1995 and is still going strong. In fact it won’t be wrong to say that Shehzad Roy is definitely in the best shape of his life at 45.

Ali Zafar

Ali Zafar is 42, but looks a lot younger. In fact, the singer cum actor has only grown younger with time. Young Ali Zafar starred in Kollege Jeans some 2 decades back and looks just as elegant and fit as he did back then. Be it dancing to PSL anthems or grooving to his upbeat music, Ali Zafar can still do it all.

Fawad Khan

Fawad Khan at 41 is another showbiz star who looks just as glamorous and handsome as he did back in the day. Fawad started his acting career some with Jutt and Bond back in 2001. Two decades and multiple Bollywood/Lollywood appearances later, Fawad Khan is still the dreamy kid in the block, with looks to die for.

Aijaz Aslam

Aijaz Aslam, this model turned actor has seen 50 summers of his life and yet doesn’t look like a day above 30 at least. Aijaz Aslam started off his career in 1989 but it seems like he hasn’t aged one day over the past 33 years. Aslam started off as a model and then forayed into acting and now production. This one man is an enigma, who will clearly define the term forever young for years to come.

Faysal Quraishi

49 years and 20 national awards later, Faysal Quraishi is a name that needs absolutely no introduction at all. A fine actor, a successful producer with a sharp business acumen, Faysal Quraishi has tasted success in its entirety, all but without a wrinkle on his face. Quraishi is notoriously good looking, a heartthrob and still as young as he could be. In fact, Quraishi at 49 is more active and young looking than any of his fellow colleagues and can still pass off as an eligible bachelor in his next drama.

Humayun Saeed

This actor has without a doubt aged like fine wine- he only gets better. He started off with actresses who can now easily pass off as his mother on screen, without a second thought. Humayun Saeed is 51 years old and visibly fit and young. Back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s Humayun Saeed was a stable actor but with a powerful presence. Today in 2023, he has come a long way from where he first started but looks as young and gorgeous as the first day we sat eyes on him in Ab Tum Ja Saktay Ho.

Ayesha Omar

Ayesha Omar, refuses to age simply. 41 years old and as young and fresh as a college lassie, Ayesha Omar can easily pass off a college student in any of her films or dramas. Ayesha Omar is still getting gigs left, right, and centre and credits her youthful looks and energy to her stringent fitness routine.

Are This Year’s Eid Movies Worth the Watch?

Eid movies public reaction

Eid is the busiest time of the year at the multiplexes. Audiences get a variety of options to spend their time and money on. But while some films thrive and are beloved, others are criticized beyond measure by the masses.

Lately the case has been the former rather the latter. The main course served by studios on Eid seems like a bloated mess to both critics and audiences alike. The extremely crowded marketplace doesn’t do many favors to the smaller productions.

However, some gems are still able to shine through all this. So, let’s take a look at the public’s feedback for this Eid’s major releases.

Money Back Guarantee

Directed by Faysal Qureshi, the film boasted a star cast which included Fawad Khan, Wasim Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Omar and Gohar Rasheed. Money Back Guarantee was arguably the most star-studded affair at the cinemas this Eid.

The film seems to have generated a ton of conversation on social media. Many seemed to enjoy the film’s satirical tone in commenting on Pakistan’s politics.

People also praised Faysal’s comedy chops on display. However, one Twitter user also commented on the film seeming like multiple sketches strung together rather than a cohesive narrative.

There were some that outright disliked the film. One made a rather cheeky remark on Twitter using the film’s title while the other called it a total waste of time.

The film seems to be a mixed bag according to these audience reviews with some members genuinely having a good time. It is also a good sign, however, that the film did manage to get people talking. It is no small feat in today’s crowded media landscape.

Fawad Khan is still very much the movie star who can get people to pay attention.

Huey Tum Ajnabi

Huey Tum Ajnabi is the second project in recent times based on the 1971 Fall of Dhaka, after Khel Khel Mein in 2021. This film had a more fictitious and dramatic perspective, however.

It is an epic romance-action film which takes place during the tumultuous setting of 1971 Dhaka. The film stars Mikaal Zulfiqar and Sadia Khan as its leads. The film marked Samaa anchor Kamran Shahid’s directorial debut

The film was the cause of many discussions online. Some genuinely seemed to enjoy the film, praising the cast and dialogue in the film.

Another user also appreciated the love story in the film

One user on Twitter, however, went into great detail regarding their problems with the film. They went on to list some egregious claims, blaming the film to completely whitewash our history and absolve us of our wrongdoings. Khel Khel Mein was also accused of the same.

It seems that audiences, for the most part, are well aware of our history and do not take it kindly when they’re force-fed falsifications. Lollywood would be wise to remember that. Huey Tum Ajnabi seems to be performing well at the box office, as did Khel Khel Mein did before it.

Daadal

Daadal, directed by Abu Aleeha, is an action-packed edge-of-the-seat thriller starring Sonya Hussayn, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Shamoon Abbasi. The film seemed to provide a much-needed palate cleanser amidst the usual romcoms and musical films.

The cast is being lauded by audiences, namely Sonya and Mohsin. Reviews also haven’t been shy in criticizing the other big films while praising the thriller.

While there is not as much chatter around the film, word of mouth is strong. This may help the film in the coming weeks once people have more time after seeing the other blockbusters and when the film hits an OTT platform.

Lahore Qalandar

Directed by Shahid Rana and starring Shafqat Cheema and Saima Noor, Lahore Qalandar was a well nuanced Punjabi film in this year’s Eid slate.

Getting a handle on how this film is being received by audiences has been interesting. While the film doesn’t have a strong digital presence, local numbers and interest does suggest the film is doing quite well in Punjabi local circles. So, it’s fascinating seeing a film performing well in the digital age without the need of a social media presence. We will continue to see more such projects in the near future catering to this audience.

Our Verdict

While the buzz of the pre-pandemic Eid flicks is still not fully back, all hope is not lost. Audiences are still eager to return to the big screen for Eid. Which film did you go and see this Eid? Share your own reviews in the comments.

Farewell to Eid: Who Wore What This Meethi Eid?

Eid look of celebs

Eid is a festival of joy and colours so it is no surprise that people use it as an opportunity to step up their style game. Pakistan’s A-listers too left no chance on this meethi EId to impress their fans. Here is Galaxy Lollywood’s take on who wore what this Eid.

Mahira Khan

White is surely the colour of stunning Mahira Khan who shone this EId in Sadaf Fawad Khan in her signature style. Mahira doned on a white silk gharara paired with a short shirt and dupatta with delicate embroidery in pastel tones.

The white dress, however, was a far cry away from the staple style statement that Mahira has had us all accustomed to. The star greeted her followers on Instagram in a caption: ‘Eid Mubarak to all my lovelies. May this be a blessed one for all of us — Thank you my pretty Eid ka jora @sfkbridal. She also wrote a cute birthday wish to her brother Hassan.

Saba Qamar

The trendy Saba Qamar — like Mahira Khan — radiated elegance as she adorned Umsha by Uzma Babar’s white and golden gharara paired with an embroidered shirt and beautiful lace-work dupatta. The Kamli star greeted her followers and asked for ‘Eidi’.

Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane

The meethi Eid was made sweeter for fans of Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane as the Meri Shehzadi star shared an Instagram post with husband Farhan after a long time.

Dressed in a beautiful blush pink peshwas with heavily embroidered bodice and kalis, zari and ivory threadwork with sequins ending in an elaborate border, Urwa looked ethereal. She paired her outfit with an embroidered chiffon dupatta and trouser.

To finish off the look, Urwa styled her lovely locks with gajras. Urwa sent Eid greetings to her followers by wishing everyone ‘Eid Mubarak’.

She adorned a sky blue embroidered, lace worked outfit from Pehrwas on the second day of Eid and looked like a true goddess!!

Farhan — in a separate post — apologised to his fans for a late Eid post. It seems like he went through the same struggle that many of us face: picking out the perfect clicks! The actor-cum-singer wrote, “Delay is a must, the people who know me know how much a struggle it is for me”.

The Tich Button star opted for a bright white geometric print Kurta from Imran Rajput, the black and purplish shades made his classic look a little cooler. However, it is clear from the comments flooding his post that his fans have already forgiven him.

Hania Aamir

Hania Aamir’s Eid dress, designed by none other than Faiza Saqlain, was perhaps the winner this Eid. The graceful Hania Aamir looked ethereal in the Lilac composition and flaunted her style through the perfect Eastern wear.

Ushna Shah

Love is truely in the air as we saw the newlyweds Ushna and Hamza twining in Zainab Chotani’s Eid jora. The couple greeted the fans all the way from Austria.

The Habs star, looked drop dead gorgeous in a traditional white embroidered Kurta paired with a sea green trouser and heavily embroidered dupatta, while Hamza standing next to her in a classic off-white Kurta-Pajama made the picture perfect. We wish them great happiness!!

Wahaj Ali

Riding on the success of Tere Bin and upcoming gigs, Wahaj Ali greeted fans through a post with his daughter. Murtasim’s simple, embroidered kurta was the talk of town as the star posed for a picture with his daughter.

Wahaj may have taken a leaf out of Murtasim’s book, as the elegant, yet simple style, is synonymous to the Tere Bin hero.

Yumna Zaidi

Wahaj Ali’s co-star in Tere Bin, Yumna Zaidi flaunted an elegant rose gold dress from Kanwal Malik. The beautiful embroidery and zari work stand out among our selections and were a true indication of a Queen.

Sehar Khan

Finally, giving us all a royal treat (pun intended), Sehar Khan really slayed in a traditional look, the Fairy Tale star opted for a military green kalidaar peshwas, crafted with zari and threadwork from Asim Jofa’s latest collection. She paired her outfit with classic jhumkay making her look stunning. Sehar took to her Instagram and wished ‘Eid Mubarak’ to everyone.

Which Ramzan Drama Won Our Hearts in 2023?

Ramzan dramas

Like every year, this year too we had a long list of Ramzan dramas airing on our favorite channels. Hum TV and Geo Entertainment participated in the race with full zest but nothing this year came close to the standards set by the likes of Suno Chanda and HumTum in the past year. However, we pick our favorite Ramzan drama for 2023 from the 4 that aired across Geo and Hum. Read on and let us know whether you agree with us or not.

Fairy Tale

As far as the best Ramzan drama this year goes, Fairy Tale checked all the boxes. Great script? Check. Good direction? Check. Believable acting? Check. Amazing casting? Double check (excellent pairing for Farjad and Umeed) and of course, tension and chemistry between the leads? Check. Check. Check. Without a doubt, Fairy Tale emerged as the clear winner this season. Saira Majeed, undoubtedly came across with a wonderful script while Ali Hassan blew life into it with this creative direction. Hamza Sohail and Sehar Khan delivered relatable performances and overall this was a beautiful, light hearted show to watch this season and enjoy.

Chand Tara

Saima Akram Chaudhry’s script failed to weave its magic like the years gone by. Chand Tara didn’t come across as an engaging show, even after having the likes of Danish Taimoor and Ayeza Khan in the lead. In fact after watching only a few episodes of Chand Tara one wondered and yearned for it to end. Reason? Unrealistic family values depicted in the show. I mean, who from the desi joint family system would not want to break away and set up a life of their own, even when you have a supportive husband. Yes the idea was ideal but it was a far cry away from reality.

Heer Da Hero

Amar Khan and Imran Ashraf made up for a jaunty lovable pair in Heer Da Hero on Geo Entertainment. The drama was fun filled and delivered light hearted comedy throughout Ramzan. Written by Amar Khan this one drama certainly showed that the actress has a knack for writing as well. We loved Heer and her hero for all the laughter they brought to us. However, despite the strong performances by Amar and Ashraf, the drama failed to live up to its potential. The writing and acting couldn’t do much to save a weak story.

Tere Aany Se

After they impressed the audience with their pairing in Qalandar, Muneeb Butt and Komal Meer paired up for this Ramzan special on Geo. Tere Aany Se was again a light hearted romantic comedy that entertained audience with its story. Written by Samra Bukhari, Tere Aany Se promised a lot in the initial episodes but failed to deliver. Too much of everything can be a problem, and that is exactly what we saw this Ramzan. Too many family-centric stories and forced story lines have made it hard for audiences to like Ramzan dramas in the same way they did before.
