From Khabarnaak to Tabish Hashmi’s Hasna Mana Hai; How Our Comedy Shows are Evolving

Comedy shows in Pakistan

Over the past decade, Pakistani comedy shows have undergone a remarkable evolution. Shows like Khabarnaak, hosted by Aftab Iqbal, and Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain pioneered a new style of infotainment comedy that would take inspiration from frequent political updates and use humor to amuse viewers.

Khabarnaak, which featured comedians impersonating politicians, celebrities, and other notable figures in a rural Punjab setting, blended news and comedy in a way that was both unique and entertaining.

Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain, followed a similar tangent, only that there were multiple impersonations, and gags during a one-hour show. The 4 man show was another comedy show that revolved around a similar ideology and used to dissipate the seriousness of political discussions through comedic jibes.

However, the comedy landscape is fast evolving, with more entertainment-centric talk/comedy shows becoming the norm over political talk shows with nuanced comedy.

The Start of Khabarnaak

When Khabarnaak first aired in 2011, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Audiences were drawn to Aftab Iqbal’s unique hosting style, which combined humor, satire, and a deep knowledge of current events. The show’s talented cast of comedians, who brought their own unique brand of humor to the table, only added to its appeal.

But while Khabarnaak paved the way for infotainment-style comedy in Pakistan, it was shows like Hasna Mana Hai that truly took things to the next level. Hosted by Tabish Hashmi, Hasna Mana Hai has become one of the most popular comedy shows in the country, thanks in large part to its unique blend of humor and satire.

The Hasna Mana Hai Transformation

But while Khabarnaak, Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain, and the 4 Man Show paved the way for infotainment-style comedy in Pakistan, it was shows like Hasna Mana Hai and The Super Over Show that truly took things to the next level. Hosted by Tabish Hashmi, Hasna Mana Hai has become one of the most popular comedy shows in the country, thanks in large part to its unique blend of humor and satire.

But it’s not just the setting that makes Hasna Mana Hai so popular. Tabish Hashmi’s hosting style, which is both witty and engaging, has won him legions of fans across the country. His ability to get the best out of his guests, even when they’re not sure what to expect, is truly remarkable.

The Super Over Show, hosted by Ahmed Ali Butt, does follow a talk show format like Hasna Mana Hai, and is on a similar level of evolution. Obviously, there are a few political jibes here and there, but it’s mostly unfiltered entertainment, audience interaction and the tickling ability of Tabish Hashmi and Ahmed Ali Butt.

Mazaaq Raat; Bridging The Gap Between Kabarnaak and Hasna Mana Hai

In style, the new evolution of Pakistani comedy shows is similar to Vasay Chaudhary’s Mazaaq Raat, minus the Punjabi comedy. However, shows like Super Over and Hasna Mana Hai cater to a larger viewer base as the jokes are not in Punjabi, making it more inclusive for viewers from different regions of Pakistan.

Pakistani comedy shows are no longer about presenting news in a humorous way or impersonating celebrities, but instead, they are about giving the viewers an entertaining and engaging experience that they can relate to.

Evolving Tastes in Comedy

The changing style of comedy in Pakistan’s infotainment shows reflects the evolving comedic tastes of the country. The younger generation, who make up a significant portion of the audience, are gravitating towards fresh and contemporary humor, which shows like Super Over, Hasna Mana Hai, and even Momin Saqib’s Had Kar Di are delivering.

This shift in audience preference shows how humor is not static and evolves with time, just like the society it belongs to. The style of relying on the host and their guest to create content speaks to the growing demand for personal experiences and insights in comedy. Furthermore, the new pan-Pakistani humor caters to a wider range of viewers, making it more inclusive than the Punjabi-centered comedy of let’s say Khabarnaak.

Pakistan’s comedy circus is slowly and gradually peaking, with new content coming our way. The likes of Tabish Hashmi, Ahmed Ali Butt, and Momin Saqib are adding fire to the evolution, and we may soon see a greater dependency on stand-up routines. As viewers gravitate towards experiences, we can expect a rise in improv comedy, where hosts dump the script and go for a well-versed experience.

Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri: Saim, Zobia Have Fans Swooning Over Them

Dananeer and Khushhal in MGM

Some on screen pairs of our showbiz industry have been lauded across the country and even worldwide. Be it the Mahira-Fawad couple or Iqra-Feroze pairing, millions of fans just can’t get over watching the chemistry of their favourite on-screen joris.

However, being romantic on screen isn’t easy — many actors are hesitant to dip their toes into romance. But recently, a new jodi has taken television screens by a storm!

Fans couldn’t take their eyes off Dananeer and Khushhal Khan’s on-screen chemistry in Hum Tv’s Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri, the second episode of which aired Friday night.

Fresh features, sparkling eyes, and the cheesiest romance, what else can one ask for in a love story? Despite the fact that they are coupled for the first time, it appears to be a match made in heaven.

Adorable Moments of The Lovable Jori in Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri

The finest part about this jodi is that they are not only young in the storyline but also in real life. Saim is played by Khushhal Khan, who was earlier seen in Mushkil, while Zobia is played by Dananeer Mobin, who last starred in Sinf-e-Aahan after she rose to prominence when her party horahi hai video went viral.

Viewers couldn’t help but notice a few adorable glimpses of the jodi in the first episode, not to mention Saim’s adoration for Zobia totally lifted the birthday party scene — when his friend attempted to sit with her at the event and Saim couldn’t help but stop him unintentionally (cue the awwing). The expressions said it all in few moments that Saim is truly enamoured with Zobia.

The Attentive Heartthrob

Saim’s attentiveness during the birthday party caught the eye of many viewers. When all of his pals were enjoying the cake-cutting ceremony, our dashing young hero walked over to Zobia to offer her a slice of cake. We all definitely went awww! That he dotes on her is no secret for sure!

We have all been there and can relate to the attention we show to the people we love. We look towards them while laughing, when in pain. And, we want to share emotions, food, or our cake in this cute instance.

Cute Fights

Nothing says “I love you” like cute bickering over little things. And our jori does not fail to dish out some heartwarming cute fights.

While it’s clear that Zobia has feelings for Saim, she behaves as if she doesn’t. Especially when she comes up with ideas on how to propose to a girl (take the hint Saim!).

Dananeer looks super adorable in these scenes, the little love fights and romantic glances are enough to make us all root for them.

The teasers and trailers of Muhabbat Gumshada Meri have shown that this young and budding love story will come with its own obstacles and complications. But for now, these lovebirds know how to charm the audience with their cute and sweet moments, reminding us of the simpler days of puppy love!

We can’t wait to see more of Muhabbat Gumshada Meri and where this cute romance takes us.

Is Tere Bin Turning Into a Dramatic Indian Soap Serial?

Tere Bin Giving Star Plus Vibes

Does someone remember the early 2000s when most of the audience, even on this side of the border, was obsessed with Ekta Kapoor’s dramas on Star Plus. Every single day of the week, from 8 to 11pm, people would be glued to Star Plus watching the never ending family dramas Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and then our personal favorite, Kahiin Toh Hoga.

Now why do we mention these serials today? Because most of our own dramas are now heading towards a similar storyline. Especially the hit ongoing serial Tere Bin. Not that we don’t love Murtasim and Meerab’s story, of course we do, but with the drastic change of events the drama has taken and with all the unnecessary frills added to it, Tere Bin has lately started to feel very Star Plus-y.

Watching Murtasim, we’re reminded of the every girl’s early 2000s crush Rajeev Khandelwal aka Sujal Garewal, the first and most happening angry young man on television ever. And yes Rajeev Khandelwal’s Sujal had and still has a cult fan following around the world, just like Wahaj Ali’s Murtasim does today.

Is It A Rip Off?

Even though, Tere Bin might not be a Kahiin Tog Hoga rip off but Murtasim and Meerab’s love hate relationship is definitely inspired by Star Plus and its earlier dramas. In fact, the specific sleeping arrangements in particular scenes and the way Murtasim retaliates while claiming he has a right to sleep where he likes, the drama definitely has picked up its romantic inspiration from the Indian channel.

Then comes the love-hate relationship of the leading couple. Come on guys, this isn’t something we haven’t seen before. Kahish hated Sujal and yet married him. The two shared similar intense chemistry between them with scenes holding the audience to the edge of their seats.

Not only that but Meerab being at the root cause of every trouble that Murtasim and his family lands in, is another trait inspired by Star Plus’s dramas. It often boils up to the lady to save the day and Meerab does.

Meerab’s character, which started off as a very strong and vocal female character has again been reduced to eye candy in Tere Bin, where she is now acting as the love struck, doe eyed woman, causing more trouble than she intends to and the vixen Haya, getting away with trapping her easily.

Where is the intelligent Meerab gone? Or the high TRPs Meerab’s distressed character is earning, highly inspired by popular storylines, swallowed whatever potential it had.

Why Is Tere Bin A Hit?

Not an hour goes by and popular dramas, the likes of Tere Bin hit approx 10 million views on YouTube instantly. One cannot help but wonder if it is absolute magic that we see. Although presenting scattered genres all at once, Tere Bin has built a cult following for itself.

The drama dabbles in all sorts of ideas like an opposites attracting couple, larger-than-life characters, the near impossible suspense situations and an iconic love story and leaves people only gapping at their screens whilst taking all in. Even though the storyline drags every week, people flock in to watch Tere Bin for all that we know.

We often pride ourselves saying that Pakistani TV industry and its audiences are maturing, looking for sensible and concrete content but then again, every once in a while we’re bombarded with dramas like Tere Bin that just leave us baffled.

We say that the audiences’ tastes are changing away from over-the-top, heart-wrenching family dramas replete with the love hate relationship of the leading couple, the dutiful daughter-in-laws, the third wheel in a couple’s life and a detestable mother in laws and yet millions and millions of viewers flock to the television channels and social media handles to get a look at their favorite actors in meaningless dramas.

Maybe the fault isn’t with Geo and other producers, but with our audience and the kind of content they prefer? Let us know in the comments.

New Anthology Film With Star-Studded Cast Set to Release This Eid

Film cast

This year’s Eid films have been off to a rather dull start. While the Eid-Ul-Fitr releases did solid business at the box office, they have not been well-received by most audience members. This Eid-ul-Adha, however, already seems much more promising.

An anthology film, by Distribution Club, is set for release in cinemas this Eid-Ul-Adha. The film is produced by See Prime, which has given us award-winning hits such as Prince Charming on YouTube.

The film will comprise of three different stories and will be directed by Nabeel Qureshi, Nadeem Baig and Marina Khan respectively. Let’s discuss these three stories individually.

Intense Drama

The first story is an intense drama directed by Nadeem Baig. The film will revolve around an intense storyline and the writer is yet to be finalized.

The film is set to star Wahaj Ali and Mehwish Hayat. This will also mark Hayat’s third collaboration with director Nadeem Baig. Wahaj Ali is expected to deliver another strong performance after Tere Bin’s and Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha’s fame.

Romance Story

The second story will mark veteran actress Marina Khan in her directorial debut. Not much has yet been revealed about this story but Vasay Chaudhry has penned the script. Chaudhry is the writer behind the mega hit Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film duology.

This story will star Sheheryar Munawar and Ramsha Khan as its leads.

Horror Comedy

The third story in this anthology is a horror-comedy written and directed by Nabeel Qureshi. Qureshi is of course well-known for films like Na Maloom Afraad, Actor in Law, Load Wedding and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad. Salman Saqib (Mani) and Hira Mani, the husband/wife duo, will be starring as the leads here.

Mani also starred in the horror-comedy Lafangey last Eid-Ul-Adha.

What is an Anthology Film?

An anthology film is a type of movie consisting of several short films or segments, usually connected by a common theme, style, or genre. Each segment in the anthology may have its own plot, characters, and style, and may be directed by a different filmmaker or team of filmmakers.

Anthology films can offer a variety of storytelling approaches and showcase different perspectives on a theme, and can feature a mix of genres such as comedy, drama, horror, or science fiction.

We are Excited

This is a rather exciting new project. Anthologies are not commonly theatrically released, so this will be a good test for future filmmakers as well. The talent attached, both in front of and behind the camera, has an impressive track record and that makes it one of the most anticipated films of the year. We certainly cannot wait to know more about this project since it has already wrapped filming. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for upcoming details regarding this film.

Sajal Ali Ups the Style Ante with Unique Fashion Statement in Kuch Ankahi

In this ever changing world, fashion too keeps moving forward, as new trends leave behind old ones behind. However, the versatility of fashion is that often they incorporate, and blend old styles, while certain styles never really do go out of fashion. Especially if they catch the eye of a celebrity, trends can become immortal — or close to it any anyways.

And who could be a greater trendsetter in Pakistan than Sajal Ali? The diva is back at it again with ethereal and classic looks in drama Kuch Ankahi. The actress can be seen donning a wide assortment of desi dresses, coupled with traditional bangles – a style that is soon catching up with working women over Pakistan.

Trendy yet classic: The Shades of Sajal Ali

The Pakistani diva has an impeccable taste in fashion. Be it wedding season or summer, the iconic actress never fails to impress us in different looks!

Her recently-aired drama Kuch Ankahi is lauded by viewers for bringing something different on the screen; however, Sajal’s minimal yet classic wardrobe lift the style games for the ladies — although some viewers find it ‘inappropriate’ for a middle class girl.

The floral-Geometric printed shalwar kameez with short sleeves gave us all spring vibes in summers. Then, the actress’s graciously-donned black sequinned Saree in one of the wedding scenes of Kuch Ankahi couldn’t help but impress viewers who later took some cues from her.

Sajal gave tips to her female audience on how to style a Kurti with Shalwars, whether it’s a floral printed Patyala or a normal one. You can’t just go wrong with her tips!

The Red-Silver Bangles a la mode!

Bangles and Jhumkas, these two items were formerly exclusive to Eid, but since Sajal Ali has been shown on screen wearing them in several dramas, namely Ishq e Laa, in which she played “Shanaya”, they have become a part of vogue.

Viewers like her drama luxury and shared two cents on her styling choices.

In a recent BBC interview, the Sinf e Ahan star donned a white Shalwar Kameez, but the major appeal was her signature red bangles. The Yaqeen Ka Safar actress was also seen in her signature style at the premiere of her newly released film What’s Love Got To Do With It where she was seen in black outfit with a pair of dull maroon bangles.

Netizens couldn’t take their gaze away from her!

Fashionistas, take notes!

Whether it’s Ishq e Laa or Kuch Ankahi, Sajal truly knows how to be a trendsetter, many people have replicated her style and made the accessories an important part of their looks.

The bangles and draping shalwar qameez make for a classy look that Sajal Ali can carry easily. We at Galaxy Lollywood are all for Sajal Ali’s fashion style and can’t stop but be a part of the bandwagon.

Kahani Suno Reaches Peak Level After Goher Mumtaz’s Comparison With Aadat

Kahani Suno's Praise By Goher Mumtaz

Music has the unique ability to transcend time and space, to capture the essence of a generation, and transport listeners to a different world. In the early 2000s, Aadat by Atif Aslam and Jal was one song that took the subcontinent by storm, becoming a cultural touchstone for an entire generation.

It’s melody, and soulful lyrics made it an instant classic, propelling Atif Aslam to the forefront of the music scene, where he has remained a legend ever since. Such was the unique appeal of that song that almost everyone thought that no pop song would be able to create similar hype and sensation. And Aadat would have been the uncontested OG of the desi pop scene, until Kaifi decided otherwise.

Kaifi Khalil’s Kahani Suno’s Success

With a voice that is as mesmerizing as it is unique, Kaifi Khalil has burst onto the music scene like a supernova, leaving a trail of adoring fans in his wake. His single, Kahani Suno, is a tour de force of melody and meaning, weaving together a tapestry of sound and emotion that has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide.

The song has over 200 million hits on YouTube; it has become a global phenomenon, a sonic journey that takes listeners on a transcendent voyage through the human experience. And just when we decided that the Kahani Suno wave was over, Goher Mumtaz, one of the founding members of Jal, decided to reel us all back in.

What Goher Mumtaz Said About Kahani Suno

In Tabish Hashmi’s Hasna Mana Hai, Goher Mumtaz again revealed how big a fan he was of Kaifi’s song. In what we consider high praise for the young Kaifi, Goher claimed that Aadat had met its match with the song.

The actor/singer did not mince words in his praise; he added that very few pop songs are relatable both in terms of melody verse, and video as Aadat and Kahani Suno are.

Goher’s high praise again reaffirms how Kahani Suno is not only a commercial hit, but also a unique song that is a musical genius too. Various singers from this region and worldwide have recreated Kahani Suno, but the high praise from Goher, and the comparison to one of the all-time great pop songs from its creators may mean a lot to Kaifi.

Simple Yet Complex – Aadat and Kahani Suno

At their heart, both Kahani Suno and Aadat are simple songs about complex emotions. They are songs that speak to the universal experience of loss and the search for meaning in a world that can often seem chaotic and unpredictable.

In Aadat, Atif Aslam and Jal sing about the pain of heartbreak and the struggle to move on from a failed relationship. The lyrics are raw and emotional, capturing the feelings of sadness, confusion, and longing that come with the end of a love affair. With its simple but powerful melody, Aadat is a song that speaks to the heart, touching a chord with listeners of all ages and backgrounds.

Similarly, Kahani Suno tells the story of a simple guy conversing about his unrequited love. The lyrics are poignant, yet simple and heartfelt, evoking a sense of nostalgia and longing that is impossible to ignore. Kahani Suno is a song that stays with you long after the last note has faded away.

Relatable Emotions

The simplicity sets both of these songs apart from the plethora of content we’re getting these days. There are no convoluted lyrics or complicated musical arrangements, just honest, relatable emotions set to a simple melody that anyone can sing along to. This simplicity makes both Kahani Suno and Aadat stand out in a crowded musical landscape, and it is what has made them enduring classics that continue to resonate with listeners to this day.

While it’s impossible to say which song sounds better between the two, both are outstanding and catchy songs that have captured the hearts of millions of listeners. They are songs that speak to the human experience in all its messy, complicated glory and remind us of the power of music to unite us, heal us, and make us feel something genuinely profound.

3 Confusions Meerab and Murtasim Can Solve Through Basic Communication

Meerab and Murtasim

Meerab and Murtasim continue to win over viewers as Tere Bin approaches its 40th episode. Through their regular shenanigans, the two misfits do make for good viewership, especially if you factor in for Wahaj Ali’s iconic portrayal of Murtasim. However, the lack of communication is concerning.

Meerab and Murtasim may be good at multiple things. Meerab knows how to stand for her rights and is by no means a pushover; the kind of character we want to see more of in our stories. Murtasim is well Murtasim. But, both of them definitely fall apart when it comes to communication.

The couple throw jibes at each other, they flourish on contempt, and even come together for totally unexpected proclamations of love, but communication is not a strong forte.

Murtasim wants to be heard, and Meerab doesn’t want to listen. Both cut off each other, and most conversations drift from practical logic to contempt and point scoring.

Maybe Tere Bin’s storyline profits from the stubborn nature of the couple, but there are definitely a few differences they can address through simple, unfiltered communication. Here we look at a few things Meerab and Murtasim would be better off discussing:

Unearth Haya’s Conniving Nature

Haya has been the kabab main haddi that not only Meerab, but fans of Tere Bin are truly tired of. Everyone including Murtasim is aware of the feelings Haya has for him. But, our dear Murtasim is neither shutting his discourse with Haya nor addressing the elephant in room. Day after day Murtasim heads out with Haya, and unintentionally may even be using her as a way to make Meerab jealous. We feel both Murtasim and Meerab need to sit themselves down, and discuss what Haya is capable of. Two-way communication may be helpful guys.

Maryam and Anas’s Situation

Maryam seems to be head over heels in love with Malik Mukhtar’s son Malik Zubair disguised as Anas. Anas is out to avenge the public shame brought to his family by Murtasim and wants to go after his wife and ghar ki izzat.

Meerab is in accomplice in Maryam’s plan to elope, while Murtasim clearly objects to the idea. Murtasim goes to the address shared by Anas, only to find a ‘brothel’ in the location. Meerab visits the location sent to her by Anas and finds him at home with his mother.

Again, the couple start arguing, and Meerab puts her trust in a mere stranger over her husband. How long would it take for both Meerab and Murtasim to discuss this situation? Meerab could just show Murtasim a picture of Anas and he would decode the situation. But, what’s the fun in talking and communicating when you can fight and argue?

Understand Their Love for Each Other

It is clear by now that Murtasim loves Meerab and the latter is also gradually falling into the emotion. But, yet again, the couple defy all odds to keep this a secret. We see the proclamation of love by Murtasim during the 39th episode on Monday, but that too is during a fight.

Meerab and Murtasim have their flaws, but as a power couple they can find a way through it with effective communication. But God forbid should Meerab talk to Murtasim. In this cat and mouse race, communication and logic are the care losers.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain Wanted to Play Mani’s Character in MBG

Mani and Aamir Liaquat

Salman Saqib Sheikh — popularly known as Mani – is the poster boy for comical roles in Pakistani films and content. Having been part of the industry for well over 2 decades, Mani has played numerous witty and whimsical characters in films across the period. His role as Gaffar Ali in Money Back Guarantee is no different, but what caught our eye is that the late Aamir Liaquat Hussain wanted to play this role.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain Wanted to Play Gaffar Ali’s Role in MBG

Speaking about his role in the recently-released film Money Back Guarantee in an interview with Geo Digital, Mani — who plays Gaffar Ali a Karachiite, who prefers to be addressed as GA MUHAJJIR — revealed more about his role and claimed that he was the first to be cast as Gaffar.

Mani shared that he had discussed the character with late anchorperson Aamir Liaquat Hussain after director Faisal Qureshi made his offer. “I’m missing Aamir bhai a lot in my movie; he was very excited to know about Ghaffar and wanted to play this character; he even called Faisal Qureshi to cast him for this role; our friendship was like this; he promised me he’d watch my movie when it came out.”

Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s Voice Will be Heard in Aziz Jindani’s New Film

As per Mani, Dr Sahab also did dubbing for Aziz Jindani’s new film, in which Hira also dubbed her voice for a character. He added, “I’m desperately waiting for it to be released.”

‘He was the pioneer of Ramzan transmission and game shows, and many are doing great by following in his footsteps,’ asserted the former RJ.

Predicting the fate of Money Back Guarantee and his character, Mani further revealed that Ghaffar, like him, would cause controversy and go trending on Twitter the instant he appears in the film.

The actor also said that he will be returning to the screen shortly with the much anticipated Asfar Mani show.
