Lala Vs Humaira: Is Adnan Siddiqui A Fair Host?

Tamasha

ARY Digital’s Tamasha is the new talk of the town due to its larger-than-life visuals on Pakistani Television and a grand scale reality show content. Week after week the show manages to grab the attention of the masses with spicy issues and fiery arguments in the house.

One such argument between two housemates Rauf Lala and Humaira Ali got hyped up in a recent episode and has created a stir on social media.

The Issue

In a heated moment, comedian Rauf Lala lost his cool over Humaira Ali and stated some nasty remarks about the model. Moreover, Lala started to threaten Humaira which followed ugly personal comments regarding Humaira’s character.

In the weekend episode, Humaira complained to the host, Adnan Siddiqui about Lala’s remarks about her character “Tumhey ganda kerdu ga, tum aurat ho ney pey dhaba ho”. Adnan denied that Lala never said these words.

However, the viewers went back to the scene and pointed out that Humaira wasn’t lying. A sight like this on national television was indeed unpleasant for the audience which is why the issue got more attention than usual.

The Disappointment

Apart from the disappointment from Rauf Lala who is a senior and respected artist, people are also not happy with the way this matter is tackled by fellow contestants and the host Adnan Siddiqui.

Aadi Adeal Amjad and Umer Aalam being seemingly sensible players, who also have cordial bonds with everyone in the house, did not bother to calm either of the parties, especially Rauf Lala, who is the closest to them in the house. Mareeha Safdar on the other hand was the only one who took the issue a bit seriously and stood for Humaira.

But more than anything else, Adnan Siddiqui aka Badshah proved to be the biggest disappointment in this entire scenario. Viewers expected a mature and responsible take from the host which eventually turned out to be an absolutely artificial act. Adnan Siddiqui by all means favoured Rauf Lala against Humaira Ali which obviously weakened Humaira’s point.

Are The Makers Reasonable?

The audience is also showing their disappointment towards the makers of the show for constantly highlighting Rauf Lala’s health issues and giving advantages to him due to the same. Other contestants on the other hand have to deal with the situations accordingly which is quite unjust to them.

Reality shows are supposed to bring out the real sides of the contestants, but it’s the responsibility of the makers and the host to highlight the right and wrong on television. What do you think about the whole issue? Let us know in the comments below.

Kaala Doriya: A Promising Start Or Just Another Suno Chanda Do-Over?

Kaala Doriya
Kaala Doriya

Audiences are tired of watching the same stories all the time. The damsel in distress in each story with triggering themes and plots in every serial, they yearn for something more lighthearted to watch. Sitcoms like ‘Bulbulay’ used to be just that but they all faded away eventually.

‘Suno Chanda’ was one such attempt at giving the audience something new and it went on to be a phenomenon, blowing audiences away back in 2018 which made many a star. The writer Saima Akram Chaudry went on to write several comedy serials such as ‘Chupke Chupke’ and ‘Hum Tum’, both of which were a collaboration between her and renowned director Danish Nawaz who is also known for serials such as ‘Sun Yaara’ and ‘Ishq Tamasha’.

The writer-director duo is back with yet another comedy serial ‘Kaala Doriya’’ which aired its first episode last night. Shot in the same house as ‘Suno Chanda’ with several familiar faces returning, was it able to be its own thing or is it just another attempt at replicating ‘Suno Chanda’’s success? Let’s discuss.

Story & Cast

This is a story of a once joint family that broke up into two over the fight between the two sons. Everything that happens in the show so far revolves around that fight and highlights the perspective of both sides and how each character feels about it.

Farhan Ali Agha and Sohail Sameer play the two brothers, who end up separating their old parents, played by Samina Ahmed and Khalid Anum, who still long for each other. The two daughters-in-law, played by Nadia Afghan and Zainab Qayyum, were once friends. The disgruntled Phupo, played by Tamkenat Mansoor, lives with her mother who wants to get married. And at the centre of this, we have Osman Khalid Butt and Sana Javed as Asfand and Mahnoor. Asfand’s sister-in-law and brother are played by Adla Khan and Shahzad Noor.

Samina Ahmed, Farhan Ali Agha, Nadia Afghan, and Sohail Sameer all return after playing renowned characters in ‘Suno Chanda’. Meanwhile, Osman Khalid Butt collaborates with the writer-director duo again, the last time being in ‘Chupke Chupke’, where he was also the lead. Sana Javed is the co-lead and a new face in this mix.

The phupo Bitto is a very fresh addition and feels like the most original character and is played very well by Tamkenat Mansoor, hoping to see more of her in the later episodes.

A Messy Start

The first episode is meant to be an introduction to all the characters and set up major story beats for later. This episode however feels like a convoluted mess. The entire episode is spent with characters busy in exposition dumping on the audience trying to get us up to speed with what conflict occurred five years ago and it’s rather hard to follow at times.

The majority of the episode is spent trying to figure out who is related to who and in what way, a family tree animation done in the style of ‘Game of Thrones’ would have been rather helpful in that regard. The choice to add not three but four generations does not help.

A Promising Start

While the show’s start is a messy one it’s also a promising one nonetheless. Once you get to know who is who and are able to follow the story the show offers some fun, lighthearted and wholesome moments, something that it has promised us. The character dynamics are set up well, some of them being extremely wholesome such as Asfand and his bhabi Nida or the two grandparents.

Saima Akram Chaudry can write comedy in her sleep and she proves that yet again here. The episode is filled with witty humour and characters quibbling left and right and all the jokes land which at the end of the day is all that matters.

Conclusion

To conclude this review, while ‘Kaala Doriya‘ has a lot of pacing and story issues off the gate and is far from the best shows of its kind, it’s amusing enough and the characters are wholesome and relatable enough to be a fun Friday night show for the whole family.

Feroze Khan And Syeda Alizey Part Ways

Feroze Khan and Syeda Alizey
Feroze Khan and his wife Syeda Alizey

There have been speculations about Feroze Khan and his wife, Syeda Alizey’s separation for the past few years. The couple has given explanations and retorted through social media posts several times. However, it has now been confirmed that Feroz and Alizey have parted ways.

A clip of ‘Habs’ actor’s interview with BBC has been circulating on social media in which he is asked if he wants to play a character of a romantic hero on screen, to which he responds: “I want to romance in real life, I want to fall in love and experience love. Allah has blessed us with so much, so I want to fall in love in real life rather than in front of the camera.” This caught the viewers’ attention and gave heat to the rumours again. Netizens were quick to notice that Feroze and Alizey have unfollowed each other on Instagram and Alizey isn’t following Feroze’s family as well. They both have removed each other’s pictures and videos as well.

Similar rumours were floating in 2020, however, they were refuted by the actor. A credible source has confirmed that the couple has officially separated and the actor has filed for visitation rights to see his children. He was also spotted at the City Court Karachi.

Last year the actor along with his sister, ‘Legend of Maula Jatt’ actress Humaima Malik came on a popular talk show in which the host asked him to elaborate on his statement about marrying at an early age. Feroze responded: “No, I think I had to marry at a younger age. And marriage is learning I think we should marry more than once like our Prophet (PBUH).” This created a stir on social media with people being divided about his opinion.

Feroze tied the knot with Alizey in 2018 and was blessed with a baby boy in 2019 and a girl earlier this year.

Decline In HUM TV’s Content: Is There Hope With Upcoming Dramas?

HUM TV dramas
HUM TV dramas

Perhaps most of our TV experience has come from HUM TV. Sigh, what quality of dramas the channel used to bring. There wasn’t a single opponent for HUM TV when it came to dramas and quality content. Top-notch stories, casting accurate to the T, excellent direction, the channel just had the best in everything.

Until recently, HUM TV garnered top TRPs for its primetime content but something has been off for the past few months. Simply put, the channel has been going through a very rough patch for quite some time now. The shows are in the low rankings and have not been clicking with the audience. There’s a lot going wrong. Why?

The past few months on television have been a disaster for HUM TV in terms of ratings. The reason? The channels declining content. The second half of 2022 has seen a big change in the pecking order where HUM TV has seen a steady decline from its top position, coming down steadily, offering nothing major and exciting in terms of its dramas to its audience. We’ll not take the Ramazan special into account since they did manage to grab a certain audience (especially those tired of game shows across channels) but after that, the channel hasn’t managed to bring about one interest-worthy drama at all.

Cast, Story or Direction?

Maybe its one, maybe it’s the other but for some, like the currently on-air ‘Wehem’, ‘Amtul Hayat‘, ‘Aitebaar‘, ‘Wehshi‘, Sarah Khan’s ‘Wabaal‘ or even the recently ended ones, such as Hiba Bukhari’s ‘Pehchaan‘, nothing has been garnering the audience’s attention like Hum TV dramas usually do. An average television watcher, even if you count the female gentry that tunes in to television during prime time, wants to see a different and new story, rather than the same old repetitive content. Hence, Hum TV needs to produce more watch-worthy content.

Let’s take a closer look at a few prime-time dramas currently on air on Hum TV.

Badshah Begum

A stellar mega cast, high-end production values, and direction by Khizer Idrees, ‘Badshah Begum’ had everything working in its favour and had built a big hype around it before the drama even aired. It was expected to be one of the very best, but what happened? Quality-wise it definitely delivered what it promised, although there was room for improvement, but somehow the genre of the drama was too alien for the audience which is accustomed to your average, run of the mill dramas. Therefore, despite its strengths, the drama couldn’t dominate the ratings as was expected.

Aitebar

The Zarnish Khan, Syed Jibran and Ali Safina starrer presented a new concept with its story. Here we had a traditional husband leaving his wife under doubt but then Ali Safina came in as a breath of fresh air, promising a new wave of husbands who would trust their wives over everything else. The story seemed promising enough with a woman who refused to back down but again everything went astray in the execution and ‘Aitebar‘ just lost track of its own story. It then set itself on a path to doom that couldn’t be saved.

Looking at the recently ended one.

Pehchaan

This Hiba Bukhari, Syed Jibran starrer began with a bang. The story seemed interesting enough and with a stellar star cast, ‘Pehchaan‘ was expected to be a blockbuster. However, the story began to lose its lustre right after the second episode. Who would want to see a drama that had absolutely no head or tail? ‘Pehchaan‘ had a promising story but its execution just took everything down the drain and the audience just didn’t stick around long enough to find the reason as to why Kuki did what she did.

Will the new wave of releases, save Hum TV’s sinking ship?

Although Hum TV’s current content seems subpar at the best, it won’t be incorrect to say that the channel does have a string of promising dramas in its pipeline. The very recently started Yumna Zaidi starrer ‘Bakhtawar‘ is bringing a very fresh new story that isn’t only inspiring but highly interesting as well.

Urwa Hocane and Ali Rehman Khan starrer ‘Meri Shehzadi‘ is another drama in the pipeline on Hum TV. The drama seems to be bringing a very strong storyline of a woman with a political background, intent on being independent and making it on her own terms. From the promos, ‘Meri Shehzadi‘ seems to be an interesting watch, which perhaps will save Hum TV’s sinking ship.

Other major releases for Hum TV could be ‘Kaala Doriya’ and ‘Tinkay Ka Sahara’. The former has been penned by the veteran writer Saima Akram Chaudhry, who has already given Hum TV its series of major hits earlier. With Osman Khalid Butt and Sana Javed in the lead and a supporting cast with Nadia Afgan, Samina Ahmed, Farhan Ali Agha and Ali Safina, this one certainly sounds interesting. Tinkay Ka Sahara’ featuring Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan, Rubab Hashim, Haroon Shahid, Saba Faisal, Ayesha Toor, Adnan Jaffer, Sana Askari and Naveed Raza. It is the third upcoming drama written by Zanjabeel Asim. It shows two sides of love and marriage through two couples.

Not only these but Hum TV will have another offering in the face of ‘Mohabbat Ek Saza‘ starring Zahid Ahmed and Sana Javed. Both actors are powerhouse performers and we expect nothing short of excellent content from the duo coming together for a drama serial. These are some content with the trademark Hum TV quality, which we are hoping would bring the spark back.

Upcoming Movies ‘Zarrar’ And ‘Yaara Vey’ Delayed

Zarrar And Yaara Vey
Upcoming Movies ‘Zarrar’ And ‘Yaara Vey’

Two much-awaited films; ‘Zarrar’ and ‘Yaara Vey’’s trailers came out earlier this year, creating anticipation among the viewers for the month of September. Both the films had previously been delayed several times due to the pandemic.

About ‘Zarrar

Zarrar’ is written and directed by the lead actor, Shaan Shahid. The film’s first teaser was released in 2020 after a long wait and last month, the star announced the release date on social media and declared that the wait for his film is over.

The film is an action-packed spy thriller based on ‘Zarrar‘, an ISI agent who is on a mission to “eliminate the foreign threats to the country even before they happen”. Apart from Shaan, the movie stars Nadeem Baig, Kiran Malik, Nayyar Ejaz, Rashid Naz and Shafqat Cheema.

Update

However, the makers have now confirmed that the movie has been postponed due to the recent devastating floods in the country and the new release date is 25th November.

About ‘Yaara Vey’

Similarly, another movie, ‘Yaara Vey’ starring Sami Khan, Aleeze Nasser, Faizan Khawaja, Jawed Shaikh, Marina Khan and Ali Sikander has been facing years of delay. The film was initially supposed to premiere in 2020, however, due to the pandemic, the makers had been pushing the release date.

Beeline Productions released the trailer and introduced the plot in the caption saying: “Triangles are always messy and the one between the disciplined Sania, played by Aleeze, the gentle Armaan, played by Faizan and the maverick Samir, played by Sami was more than she bargained for. Sania’s journey from Dubai to Thailand to Georgia and back again changed her in ways she couldn’t have imagined. But life had yet another curveball to throw her way; one that threatened everything she knew to be true”.

The trailer follows a love triangle between the three characters with a lot of conflict and romance. It is directed by Manish Pawar and was set to release on 16th September.

The Delay

One of the lead actors, Sami Khan has confirmed that the film has been postponed.

“The movie was going to be delayed anyway because 17th September is the Chelum day, hence out of respect the producers and distributors had decided to change the date. Additionally, because of destruction caused by the floods, this isn’t the right time to release a movie. Our focus should be on helping the ones in need,” says ‘Lafangey’ actor.

He further added that the updated release date will be announced soon and the tentative months are either November or December this year.

In a turbulent time like this, it’s great to see the makers of the aforementioned movies consider the current situation in the country.

The exclusive news that has us squirming with excitement is huge, and it potentially involves all your favorite people. We’re talking about Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, and Imran Ashraf tag-teaming up for an upcoming project.

Details

The trio will be seen in Geo TV’s next project, titled Sanwal Yaar Piya. Writer Hashim Nadeem is all set to craft this tale, with Wajahat Rauf grabbing the directorial reign, and Shazia Wajahat coming on board as a producer, with the show being made under the banner of Showcase Productions. As more details come to light, it must be noted that Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, and Imran Ashraf are a mighty trio, and this might just be the next big thing that will get everyone hyped up.

For The Eagle-Eyed Fans

Anyone who’s been following the nitty gritty within the television industry knows that this project is going to get people talking for a multitude of reasons. First of all, let’s talk about the fact that this is Iqra Aziz’s much awaited comeback, ever since she took a step back from the limelight after giving birth. For those who have seen her performances, the fact that she is a powerhouse of a performer is what makes this comeback far more exciting. We cannot wait to see her work her magic on screen once more.

Additionally, Feroze Khan and Iqra Aziz make a compelling pair, showcasing riveting performances when sharing the screen. Season 3 of Geo TV’s Khuda Aur Mohabbat was a testament to the same, and such was their chemistry and magnetic pull, that the drama made history, crossing a staggering 1 billion views on YouTube.

Moreover, fans of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi are also aware of the fact that when Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz come together, cinematic brilliance ensues. The duo bewitched audiences as Noori and Bhola, and it is no secret that the audience would love to see them together once more.

All in all, Geo TV is set to roll out another banger of a show, and we’re already invested. Let us know what you think about this in the comments.

Tamasha: The Good, The Bad, And What Could Be Better

Pakistanis appreciate it when they get more than they expected. We experienced a similar emotional ride recently when ARY Digital launched its much anticipated reality show, ‘Tamasha’. Largely inspired by ‘Big Brother’ and ‘Bigg Boss’, the show is creating quite a buzz on social media.

Tamasha: Content And Production Value

The concept of the show is all about a number of celebrities living together in a house, totally disconnected from the outside world. Adnan Siddiqui, being the Badshah of the Tamasha Ghar, keeps a check on them as the contestants are bound to follow certain rules and regulations of the house.

International programs with similar concepts have great production value. Now that we have our own production in that genre, it is mandatory for fans to give this a try, not only due to the fact that it’s national content, but for the creativity, effort, and team work that stands out in each episode.

Gorgeous Set Design

The house is a visual treat for the viewers of Pakistani television who usually do not get to see such gorgeous sets in our dramas and shows. The detailing of every area enhances the experience, while the colour palette of the house has a charm in itself.

Global Acknowledgement

It also is a matter of pride and honour as Tamasha is being acknowledged around the globe, especially by the Indian audience that was already expecting the delayed OTT season of Bigg Boss around this time.

What Can Tamasha Do Better?

The television audience has become much more aware and critical nowadays and hence, they choose quality of content over only visually appealing sets. Despite a powerful start, people are noticing certain flaws in the execution of the show and constantly highlighting the areas that need improvement.

For instance, most viewers are not appreciating Adnan Siddiqui’s deep involvement in house affairs, as at times, it becomes annoying and spoils the flow of the bond that viewers need to create directly with the housemates without the interference of a middle man. Viewers are unable to figure out why showrunners won’t allow the housemates to open up in front of each other in the purest manner and show their true personalities to the audience. Whenever any scenario starts to intensify, either Adnan Siddiqui enters the house and solves the matter himself, or makes the contestants apologise.

Apart from this, viewers also do not get to see every substantial argument in the edited episode that airs on TV. Instead, we get to hear discussions about a specific conflict afterwards, which takes away from the experience. Moreover, many people are not happy with forced and repetitive brand endorsements after almost every 5 to 10 minutes, which gets quite annoying. A purposeless weekend is another aspect that is problematic as people expect special segments other than eliminations. In fact, it would be great to see Adnan Siddiqui only on the weekends in a more dignified and pivotal role.

Since it’s the first season and also a very courageous attempt to bring such a transmission to Pakistani television, we can only hope that the makers of Tamasha notice these important concerns and take actions accordingly.

Conclusion

You might agree or disagree with a certain kind of content, but it is mostly delightful to see our industry growing and serving programs of different dynamics and exploring diverse genres. Tamasha airs every night at 9 PM on ARY Digital. Which contestant are you rooting for?

Upcoming Pakistani Films To Keep An Eye Out For

With a recent boom in releases after two grueling years in a never-ending pandemic, more and more teams of filmmakers are finding opportunities to put forth their projects. Here are a few upcoming Pakistani films that will release in the neat future:

Intezar -19th August 2022

A quick look at the trailer of Sakina Samo’s directorial project reminds one of Baghban, where children mistreat parents and lose patience with them after a while. Addressing the generation gap with the intent to be an emotional rollercoaster, the film stars Khalid Ahmed, Samina Ahmed, and Adnan Jaffer among others, and is penned by Bee Gul.

SHOTCUT – 2nd September 2022

A wholesome Punjabi film, this Juggan Kazim, Gohar Rasheed, and Sana Fakhar starrer promises comedy and fun packed in one. Written and directed by Abu Aleeha, the film has been produced by Javed Ahmed Kakepoto, Faheem Samejo, and Sufi Hashim Bin Harris under the banner of KK Films Production. It also stars Naseem Vicky, Ahmed Hassan Marhoom Ahmed Bilal, Nawaz Anjum, Honey Albela, and debutant Alia Khan, among many others.

Doda – 2nd September

A Baloch feature film that suffered delays due to the pandemic, Doda follows the narrative of a small-town boxer and the perils he must endure. This will also be the first Baloch film in Pakistan since 1976, and is key for representation.

Carma – 2nd September

This Adnan Siddiqui, Zhalay Sarhadi, and Naveen Waqar starrer promises mystery, intrigue, drama, and thrill. Touching upon various taboo themes under the direction and production by Kashan Admani, this is set to be a film for those who love to see shades of grey being explored.

Zarrar – Fall 2022

Shaan’s major, larger-than-life comeback film needs no introduction. The trailer has already enthralled audiences who cannot wait to see Shaan feature in a series of action sequences with double crosses and twists galore. The film also stars Nadeem Baig, Kiran Malik, and Nayyer Ejaz. While the release date is up in the air momentarily, rumor has it that it might have a fall release – tentatively 9th September.

Yaara Vey – 16th September 2022

This Sami Khan and Aleeze Nasser starrer that has been directed by Manish Pawar is a classic rom-com that touches upon the theme of opposites attracting, conflict in love, and messy love triangles. The film also stars Faizan Khwaja, Javed Shaikh, Marina Khan and Ali Sikander, and has been produced by Beeline Productions.

The Legend of Maula Jatt – 13th October 2022

The long-awaited Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan starrer finally has a release date, and we can all flock to cinemas on 13th October to watch this masterpiece be realized before our eyes. After Waar, this is Bilal Lashari’s huge comeback to the big screen, and everyone is excited for it.

Tich Button – 28th October 2022

The long delayed Tich Button that features an interesting ensemble cast finally has a release date. With Farhan Saeed, Feroze Khan, Sonya Hussyn, and Iman Ali as its stars, the film is set to be a commercial entertainer with romance sprinkled in. It has been directed by feature film debutante, Qasim Ali Mureed, and produced by Salman Iqbal and Urwa Hocane in her debut production.

Aasman Bolay Ga – November 2022

The celebrated Shoaib Mansoor is determined to set the Pakistani industry ablaze with his next project, which, if whispers on the grapevine are to be believed, is going to hit cinemas in November 2022. With a patriotic undercurrent, the Emmad Irfani and Maya Ali starrer is going to revolve around the Pakistan Airforce, and their efficiency while striking back after India’s attack on Balakot.

Neelofar – December 2022

Are we really going to be blessed enough to witness the Humsafar duo, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in not one, but TWO films the same year? Seems likely, since the Ammar Rasool directorial is slated for a potential release by the end of the year.

Other Upcoming Pakistani Films

Other films that are set to release in Pakistan are the celebrated Joyland, that won big at Cannes, the previously censored Javed Iqbal with Yasir Hussain, and Sarmad Khoosat’s far too long awaited Zindagi Tamasha. More upcoming releases include Abhi, John, Gavah Rehna, Dhai Chaal, Once Upon A Time In Karachi, and What’s Love Got To Do With It (we’re counting it, since it stars Sajal Aly).

Oof – quite a filled slate. We are pumped to see Pakistani films picking up traction once more. Onwards and upwards, surely, as we march on forward and witness the bevy of content that is in store for audiences this year.

Piracy Begins To Spell Havoc For Major Pakistani Releases

If challenges like COVID, low screen count and low ticket sale were not enough for the local film industry, a new plague has risen. The nascent film industry saw a little boost, courtesy two big Eid releases like London Nahi Jaunga and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, both reasonably well made films with an equally good box office response. The films however, seem to have another challenge: piracy, a widely and eternally decried practice affecting film and entertainment businesses worldwide.

A few days ago, the team at Galaxy Lollywood observed the pirated version of LNJ being sold on Pakistan’s biggest online shopping website, Daraz.

To add more irony to the already frustrating situation, the film that took a huge budget, and blood and sweat to make in the challenging times of COVID, was being sold with a meagre price tag in the name of “Azadi Sale”.

A day following this observation, Galaxy Lollywood received a voice note and screenshots from Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad director, Nabeel Qureshi, who observed similar blatant violation of Pakistan’s anti piracy laws where pirated and poor quality copies of the film were being sold in the name of Azadi Sale.

Innumerable copies of both films have been sold on the website of the shopping giant, as is evident from the comments section of the website. And it is surprising that such a huge platform would commit such blatant and blunt violation of Pakistan’s piracy laws.

It is pertinent to mention that Daraz is owned by the multi-billion dollar international giant Alibaba, and that makes Alibaba equally involved in this crime. Galaxy Lollywood tried to reach the representatives at Daraz, but no response could be obtained. However, Fizza Ali Meerza, the producer of Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad has informed Galaxy Lollywood that legal action will be pursued in this case.

In such a situation, the frustration and anger of film makers is justified and apt. Piracy is a clear cut crime that is the same as any kind of theft of property, and practices like these, where films that are already being screened at cinemas are stolen with their poor quality rips and sold illegally on online E-commerce platforms, is criminal, to say the least. The concerned authorities should take notice of this so that such kinds of practices are discouraged in future.
