Teasers Of ‘Amanat’ On ARY Digital Promise A Tried & Tested Story But With A Different Treatment

Amanat

ARY Digital just dropped teasers of its latest upcoming drama, ‘Amanat’ and seems to have grabbed our attention. Although the three teasers shared show a tried and tested story with one hero and two heroines in a love triangle and another character being in love with one of the aforementioned women who does not reciprocate, the treatment as visible in the teasers seems different.

The First Teaser

The very first teaser shows Urwa Hocane getting all decked up as a bride while Saboor Aly on the other hand is seen taking off her bridal jewellery. It seems that the ornaments that Saboor takes off, Urwa puts them on as a bride. Enters the gorgeous looking Imran Abbas who holds Urwa’s hands and yet has his eyes fixed on Saboor, who looks at him imploringly. Now that’s something to find out why.

The Second Teaser

The second teaser shows Imran Abbas promising Urwa Hocane to take care of her as something entrusted to his care for all his life, while Saboor Aly openly declares war as she accuses Imran of deceiving her in love. She holds Haroon Shahid’s hand, who looks equally fierce and eager to take up Saboor’s side.

Teaser No. 3

The third teaser shows Imran Abbas and Urwa Hocane warming up to each other with an absolutely wonderful OST playing at the back. Not only the visuals but the setting of the scene alongside Urwa Hocane and Imran Abbas’s performance seems aesthetically beautiful.

Creators

‘Amanat’ has been directed by Shahid Shafat of ‘Dil Mom ka Diya’ fame and penned by Rukhsana Nigar. The drama has been produced under Six Sigma and Next Level Entertainment and is slated to air on ARY Digital soon. From what we have seen in the teasers of far, this seems to be a story that we have already seen but with a different sort of treatment. With a stellar cast, it’ll be interesting to see Imran, Urwa, Saboor and Haroon working together.

Ali Zafar Defamation Case: Arrest Warrants Issued Against Iffat Omar & Ali Gul Pir

Iffat Omar and Ali Gul Pir

The Lahore Court issued arrest warrants against actor and host, Iffat Omar and comedian Ali Gul Pir, in a defamation lawsuit filed by actor and singer Ali Zafar. It is regarding the allegations against him by the singer Meesha Shafi.

As the hearing went underway, the judicial magistrate rejected the plea of Iffat Omar’s exemption from appearance and issued a bailable arrest warrant against her. The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Ali Gul Pir. They have pleaded that it was difficult for them to appear before the court for all hearings.

Previously in the case

All the accused have so far failed to attend the hearing before the magistrate. Earlier, Iffat Omar, Faizan Raza, Haseemuz Zaman, Fariha Ayub and Leena Ghani filed pleas seeking exemption from personal appearance and they cited living and working in Karachi as permanent residents.

The court also summoned singer, Meesha Shafi on the next hearing and dismissed the pleas of co-accused Leena Ghani, Fariha Ayub, Faizan Raza and Haseemuz Zaman for permanent exemption from appearance.

The court adjourned the hearing till October 6. They were booked on September 29 under Section 20 (Offences against the dignity of a natural person) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Section 109 (Punishment of abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

How it started

In April 2018, Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexually harassing her on “more than one occasion”. Ali denied the allegations and brought up a defamation suit against her. The two have since been engaged in a legal battle.

The FIA cybercrime wing submitted an interim challan to the Lahore High Court, which stated that Meesha Shafi is accused of being found guilty of running a defamatory campaign against the actor by accusing him of his alleged involvement in sexual harassment and assault.

Meanwhile, the court also summoned Meesha Shafi and Maham Javed for the next date of hearing.

Talking to media outside a court last month, Ali Zafar had claimed that he was being targeted on social media through fake accounts in an effort to destroy his image.

He also added that Meesha Shafi’s lawyer has become a part of the campaign against him by following and retweeting fake accounts. He said that he was being wrongfully accused of sexual harassment and claimed that he was innocent. He has also accused Meesha Shafi and others of targeting him only for personal gains.

This is perhaps one of Pakistan’s most popular cases under the #MeToo campaign. This case has gained huge media attention. There was a divide in the general public and as the case has unfolded, the majority is backing Ali Zafar’s narrative, as he is still in the country, while Meesha Shafi has left the country to move abroad.

Affan Waheed, Kinza Hashmi & Azfar Rehman Set To Star In 7th Sky Entertainment’s Next

Affan Waheed is on a roll these days with three back to back major dramas on the three top channels. Similarly, Kinza Hashmi has been delivering one hit after another. Her drama ‘Azmaish‘ is currently on air and another drama ‘Mohlat‘ ended recently. No matter where you flip your channel to, you either see Affan or Kinza in one drama or another. Now how would it be if the two are cast together?

It Is Happening

Affan Waheed and Kinza Hashmi are coming together for the first time in 7th Sky Entertainment’s next. The drama, as sources state, will be a Mazhar Moin directorial. Mazhar Moin who has already given his audience hit dramas like ‘Qudussi Saheb Ki Bewa’ and ‘Meherposh’ is sure to enthral his audience once again with actors like Kinza Hashmi and Affan Waheed in tow.

Adding to the stellar cast actor Azfar Rehman who is delivering a tremendous performance in ‘Dour’ these days will also be seen in the yet to be named drama.

The Deets We Know

Kinza Hashmi spoke to Galaxy Lollywood about this project. The actor has certainly played a range of different characters so far, but she will portray a never-before-seen avatar. Kinza said: “It gives me a lot of shades and acting margin. I haven’t done anything like this before.” Now that’s something to hold the viewers interested.

She added that she is “looking forward to working with Affan.” Kinza and Azfar have previously worked in ‘Tum Se Kehna Tha’. She said: “Azfar is a sweetheart to work with.”

Here’s wishing we get to see this amazing cast soon. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for more details.

Plagiarism Across The Border: India Copies This Pakistani Song Frame By Frame

Pakistani and India Songs

Plagiarism across the border isn’t something new. For ages India has copied music, videos, songs and ideas from the Pakistani entertainment industry and so, this latest act of a plagiarized song doesn’t come as a surprise. However, what is shocking is the fact, that the artist did not even do as much to change the narrative a bit and copied the video from the song frame by frame.

Shani Arshad’s ‘Ki Jana‘ Copied By Brham Darya

Now that’s the fun part. Singer Brham Darya, went on to copy Shani Arshad’s track ‘Ki Jana’, frame to frame for his latest single’s music video. A pity indeed because not one scene of the video differs from the actual track by Shani Arshad.

‘Ki Jana’ was written and composed by Shani Arshad and produced by Fizza Ali Meerza. It happened to be a Nabeel Qureshi direction and starred Sonya Hussyn as the lead alongside Mohsin Abbas Haider in a cameo appearance. The subject of the song revolved around honour killing and Sonya Hussyn’s performance was highly appreciated in the music video.

Here’s the Indian song

Here’s the original song by Shani Arshad

Past Plagiarism

Now the fun part of the entire scenario is the fact that this isn’t the first time that the work of Shani Arshad, Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi has been copied across the border. Earlier it was their film Load Wedding’s song ‘Kooch Na Karin’ that was copied frame to frame by a Bangla singer named Shahid.

‘Kooch Na Karin’ was sung by Azhar Abbas and composed by Shani Arshad and sung by Shahid. Although his vocals were different, the visuals of the song remained the same throughout.

And not only this but earlier Nabeel Qureshi’s film ‘Actor in Law’ was also copied frame-by-frame as a regional film in the ‘Oriya’ language. Also, the director Nabeel Qureshi has on record shared that the Indian film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor was also a copy of ‘Actor in Law’, with its central idea ripped off from his film.

Perhaps while we rely on India for its exports, it seems Bollywood relies on Pakistan for its film music. Although a gigantic industry with hundreds of talented artists of their own, over the years, Bollywood has mercilessly ripped Pakistani music, copying it frame to frame and beat to beat at times.

Abrar ul Haq’s ‘Bheega Bheega Sa Yeh December Hai’ was copied for the Imran Hashmi starrer ‘Chocolate’ while Ali Zafar’s ‘Channo’ was copied for the film ‘Fight Club’. Another time, Imran Hashmi starrer film ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ copied Fakhir Mehmood’s song ‘Marjawan’ and these only happen to a handful of the major number of songs that have been blatantly copied across the border.

Ameer Gilani posted a picture with Atif Aslam on his official Instagram to announce this exciting project. “We have a ‘Paighaam’ for you tomorrow InshaAllah @atifaslam what an honour. Marked one off the bucket list”

About the surprise

It was broadcasted on various news channels to celebrate Defence Day. The director is Mohsin Kamal. ISPR and Rock & Roll Manufacturing have created it. Defence Day

This day is celebrated as Defence Day to commemorate the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers in defending its borders.

The music video is the perfect homage to our brave soldiers and the collaboration of the two popular artists ensure that it reaches every part of the country.

Late Nazia Hassan’s Husband Files Defamation Suit Against Zoheb Hassan

Nazia and her husband, Zoheb

Zoheb Hassan made headlines a few months back through a harrowing revelation regarding the death of his sister, Nazia Hassan. He levelled allegations of poisoning and illegal detention against the legendary singer’s husband Ishtiaq Baig.

The lawsuit against Zoheb Hassan

In response, Ishtiaq Baig, who is also a renowned businessman, filed a suit of defamation worth Rs. 10 billion in Sindh High Court. Ishtiaq Baig forewarned the same last month after the allegations made by Zoheb Hassan.

Details of the Lawsuit

Ishtiaq Baig submitted in the plaint that his wife died after a prolonged battle with cancer. He stated that the Scotland Yard team also confirmed the death of Nazia Hassan from natural causes.

He further submitted that Nazia Hassan was his lawful wife till her death. He maintained that the late singer’s marital status can be substantiated by Nazia’s legal documents in the UK. Ishtiaq Baig further submitted that Zoheb Hassan has levelled incessant defamatory allegations against him which are absolutely damaging and likely to cause irreparable loss to his reputation.

As per the lawsuit, Zoheb Hassan has given false statements regarding the divorce of the late singer. Ishtiaq Baig further submitted that Zohaib Hassan made defamatory remarks in order to gain monetary benefit from him. According to the late Nazia Hassan’s husband, the allegations made by her brother are fictitious and backed by ill-motives and pecuniary benefits.

Ishtiaq Baig pleaded with the court to issue a decree worth Rs.10 billion against Zoheb Hassan. He further pleaded that Zoheb Hassan is restrained from making any defamatory remarks at any print/electronic media till the pendency of this suit.

Conclusion

Nonetheless, Zoheb Hassan stated in August that he has sturdy proof against Ishtiaq Baig. He has not responded to the lawsuit against him as he is yet to file his counterclaim in court. It appears that fans of the legendary singer have to wait longer till justice is served.

Here’s Why LSA Needs To Consider Channels Apart From The Big Three

LSA and channels

Lux Style Awards has been a prestigious event for over a decade. With its 20th ceremony coming up, it has made a name for itself due to the credibility of its jury. Recently, however, they have come under a lot of fire.

The integrity of the jury is being questioned with accusations of biases after some major snubs. ARY, one of, if not the biggest drama channels of our country, pulled out from the awards due to this same reason.

The issue at hand, however, is how the awards have been completely ignoring content from any channel that isn’t one of the big three i.e. ARY, HUM TV or GEO. While shows like ‘Baaghi’, which aired on Urdu1, have taken home some major awards, we never see any such variety anymore.

Lack of Integrity

This situation should be alarming for LSA. Entire channels and a number of actors are questioning their credibility. Amidst all of this, they are still ignoring other channels and the slew of versatile and amazing content that they provide.

It is clear that the award show only cares about as much clout as it can generate by nominating shows with the highest ratings and biggest names. But that’s what the viewers’ choice awards are for. Those can still cater to all the huge fandoms for actors meanwhile the jury awards need to be more inclusive and with a better representation of our drama industry, which is more than just the big three channels. Especially when the quality of the dramas from other channels is steadily improving and prominent actors are choosing to work there as well.

The responsibility also lies on the other channels to submit their shows for consideration to at least and be in the running. Quality content with big names getting ignored like this cannot keep going for too long.

Some Needed Change

Award shows are all about politics. Whether it’s the Oscars or the Emmys, they all try to be as diplomatic as possible while handing out awards. Studios throw a lot of money into their award campaigns because getting said awards is a huge deal.

Our award shows, albeit way smaller in scale than the ones mentioned above, should still maintain their credibility if they want to be taken seriously by the talent and the viewers. If it really is just a huge marketing scheme to sell their soap then it cannot sustain for long.

Either the LSA gains back the trust of its audience and participants or this will only result in more talent pulling out their content. Some other award shows might also try to swoop in and take their spot.

Credible, authentic awards only inspire the talent to do better while creating content. It gives them something more than ratings or box office to strive for. Better award shows will only benefit everyone involved so let’s hope that these issues are resolved in the near future.

Anoushey Ashraf Speaks Up On Exploitation Of Women

Anoushey Ashraf

How the #MeToo movement started

A social activist and community organizer began using the phrase #MeToo in 2006 to raise awareness for women who had been abused at their workplace. More than a decade later, it found global recognition after a viral tweet by an actress, one of the women who accused a topmost Hollywood producer of sexual assault. This movement talks not only about rape, sexual assault and abuse in workplaces but also about gender parity and an equal pay system.

#MeToo movement projects the rights of both genders, contrary to how it has been perceived to mostly be used by the female gender.

#MeToo movement and its impact on the cinematic world

The impact of the MeToo movement has been seen all around the world, especially in the film industry. This woke movement has brought about a wave of awareness, where people are not only talking but are inquiring about their rights. Most importantly, people are demanding protection rights in their legal contracts and equal pay standards.

Our neighbouring industry, Bollywood, has also experienced the brunt of MeToo, whereby celebrities working within the entertainment sector have suffered the consequences after being accused of sexual misconduct. Before this, in America, there was a successful The Time’s Up campaign, where a significant amount of legal defence funds was collected to fight court cases for such victims. All prominent top tier celebrities were seen joining hands and using their collective voice and social media platforms to back this up.

Domestically, we saw the ‘cancel’ culture in our industry, which is a byproduct of this movement. Awareness was spread through social media platforms, where the public takes such matters into their own hands and decides to ‘cancel’ anyone involved in such heinous acts. We have also seen huge celebrities, famous politicians, influencers and many more who came under fire and a segment of Pakistanis has expressed the resolve to no longer support or watch them.

The global impact of the #MeToo movement has been enormous all over the world. The survivors got a chance to tell their stories and numerous legislative bills have been passed all over the world.

Anoushey Ashraf’s take on Feminism

Anoushey Ashraf, a famous VJ, RJ, actress and host admits that she had more of an ignorant approach for misjudging feminism at the start of her career. She is now not only a staunch supporter of the female liberation movement but also strongly opposes the prevalent patriarchy system. Regardless of her views, which often make headlines, Anoushey Ashraf knows how to remain politically correct and understands her power through her celebrity status. She knows how to manage her most spontaneous stances on situations with utmost grace.

Speaking to Express Tribune, the VJ drew an interesting parallel between inherent privilege and how the lack of the same makes girls working in the entertainment industry soft targets. She understands her position in the industry as a privileged personality. She highlighted that she has attended the best educational institutions and her father owned cooking oil factories, so she joined the industry coming from a well-settled family. Anoushey said: “We were also less vulnerable. However, women around us, who came from relatively less privileged households, were regularly molested, propositioned, given lesser money and odd jobs”.

She also touched upon the recent gruesome murder of Noor Mukadam, as well as the incident at Minar-e-Pakistan and felt that in the current scenario, even women with privilege seem to be unsafe. She added: “When they were ripping her clothes off I felt like I was being touched and violated. You have to be a woman to understand what that feels like.” She urged people not to label each other as conservatives or liberals, especially in matters of sexual assault and refrain from asking what the victim was wearing.

Anoushey added that women continue to share their personal struggles with her on social media. She said: “I tell them, just because our parents, mothers, grandmothers stayed in abusive marriages, doesn’t mean we should too. Not to mention, women are just more aware of their rights now, and men don’t know how to handle that. So they’re shouting. But we won’t let them overpower our voices anymore.”

Conclusive remarks

The feminism movement is to stop maintaining silence over such heinous issues, just because one is not directly affected by them due to their privilege is akin to empowering the same rotten and unjust system. We, as a society, share the burden of failure to condemn oppression.

One must appreciate Anoushey Ashraf and the likes who lend their voice to this cause. We earnestly hope that more celebrities would come forward with clear stances on such issues, regardless of whether or not they attract criticism from the more reactionary segments of our population.

The Problematic Narrative Of ‘Ishq Hai’

Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan starrer ‘Ishq Hai’ is currently airing on ARY digital. This play is written by Rehana Aftab, directed by Abis Raza and produced by Fahad Mustafa and Ali Kazmi.

Cast of this show includes Danish Taimoor, Minal Khan, Hammad Shoaib, Babar Ali, Saba Faisal, Farah Nadeem, Saifi Hasan, Mahi Baloch, Sajjad Paul, Azekah Daniel, Saima Qureshi, Faraz Farooqui, and Mahenur Haider.

Story

Ishq Hai’ unfolds the obsessive love story of Isra and Shahzaib. Isra, played by Minal Khan, belongs from an upper-middle-class yet conservative family. She is immensely loved by her family. Shahzaib, played by Danish Taimoor, belongs to a very rich family. He is possessive, impulsive and madly in love with Isra.

His vicious mother Nafeesa, played by Saba Faisal, wants her sons, Raza and Shahzaib, to marry her nieces Sameera and Nimra, played by Mahi Baloch and Mahenur Haider respectively.

Like any typical love story, the parents of both the leads are absolutely against their marriage. Isra’s parents force her into marriage with Harris, played by Hammad Shoaib. Harris proves to be another obsessive lover of Isra.

Shahzaib kidnaps Isra on the wedding day. The obsessive lover forces Isra to marry him by placing a gun on his head. Meanwhile, Isra’s father dies. Isra blames Shahzaib for his demise.

After some time, viewers are shown that Isra and Shahzaib are a happy couple and Isra’s brother forgives them too.

The story takes another typical turn as the manipulative Nafeesa, eccentric Nimra, who desperately wants to marry Shahzaib, along with Sameera and Harris create such circumstances which make Shahzaib believe that Isra and Haris are having an affair. He throws Isra out of his home. When Nimra’s parents die in an accident, Shahzaib agrees to marry Nimra.

The toxic characters

‘Ishq hai’ script does not entail even a single sane character. Starting from Shahzaib, an obsessive and completely wackadoo guy. There is no character building of his role. He is either a filmic romantic person or a furious and rude husband. His character appears impulsive and nonsensical.

He forces Isra into marriage then he falls into the foolish trap of his mother and Nimra, which looked absolutely non-convincing. The whole trap scenario is poorly written and executed.

Shahzaib receives videos and photos from Harris but he does not mention any of such video proof to Isra or Isra’s brother. Why is he keeping this a secret? The audience is unable to fathom.

Danish Taimoor did a similar role in ‘Deewangi’, he should have been more thoughtful in opting the role of Shahzaib, which is almost identical to his ‘Deewangi’ character.

Isra, on the other hand, is the most innocent female protagonist. She enters into a relationship with Shahzaib despite knowing that her family is completely against love marriages. In the recent episodes, she is easily falling into the witless trap of her mother-in-law. Why cannot Isra avoid Haris? She knows that this man has created countless problems in her marriage, how can she still meet him and be nice to him. Her character is just beyond the audience.

Nafeesa’s role is yet another problematic character of the story. She wants to ruin the life of her own son. In the initial episodes, Shahzaib even gets physically hurt in order to convince his mother for Isra but all this character wants is Nimra as her daughter-in-law. It appears that she is more loyal to her niece than her son.

Nimra is the most problematic character of this tale. This obsessive and eccentric girl’s only life goal is to be with Shahzaib, the man who rejects her and rebukes her many times. This character has no shades other than a hopeless desperate desire for a boy. Even after Shahzaib’s marriage, she is ready to marry him. This obsession looks completely irritating and uncalled for.

Harris is an exact male replica of Nimra’s character. He is obsessed with Isra. He saw Isra only twice in his life. But his obsession is stretched to a thousand years. This boy has no job, no life of his own, he wakes up daily and follows Isra and Shahzaib everywhere. He even makes an alliance with Nafeesa to marry Isra. We, as viewers, are unable to comprehend his obsession with a married woman, whom he only met twice.

Naina, Isra’s sister-in-law, played by Azekah Danial, is another problematic character. She is extremely negative. This character has no substantial role in the story other than adding negativity.

The problematic graph of the story

These eccentric and illogical characters render the drama a complete disaster. The writing is extremely poor. The trap set by Nafeesa is laughable. Shahzeb sees Harris and Isra standing in a closed room and viewers want to know how that was possible. He also receives videos, pictures from Harris’ number and he knows that Harris wants their marriage to end, but still chooses to believe in it.

He also witnesses that Sameera is always in a scenario where Isra and Harris are together, so why is he not evaluating the situation? Why is he not confronting Isra with videos and photos? He is just sure of Isra’s infidelity without actually witnessing the same.

Another issue worth mentioning is Shahzaib’s second marriage. He agrees to marry Nimra, only because she lost her parents and is sad. The writer may have forgotten that the same Nimra was suicidal when Shahzaib refused to marry her in their Nikkah ceremony in front of all the people. How has he developed a certain love for Nimra to an extent that he is marrying her? The writing appears inconsistent and without any strong underlying story.

Lastly, it must be questioned why the parameters of a good woman are so much higher than men? Nimra leaves her dupatta in Shahzaib’s room. Shahzaib explains it to Isra and she believes him. On the other hand, Shahzaib has not seen Harris and Isra in any inappropriate gesture, then why is he so rigid and convinced that she is characterless?

Conclusion

Ishq hai’ is a toxic love story backed by a disastrous obsession. Almost all the characters of the show possess certain redundant compulsion and infatuation. Undoubtedly, the acting of Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan is intense and poignant but it cannot help to shoulder a weak storyline.
