“A Strong Woman Is Rarely Seen On Television These Days”: Amar Khan On Her Character In ‘Baddua’

Amar Khan

She made quite a debut with ‘Ghughi’ where she played the lead opposite the veteran Adnan Siddiqui and impressed everyone with her acting skills. She then wowed her audience playing the very possessed dayan in ‘Belapur Ki Dayan’ and then came as a breath of fresh air with her antagonist skills playing Alizeh in ‘Dil e Ghumshuda’. We’re talking about none other than the gorgeous Amar Khan, who has become the talk of the town with her acting expertise, which she has showcased in such a short amount of time.

Over the last one and a half years, while Amar Khan has been away from the small screen, she has been working on her upcoming debut film ‘Dum Mustam’ alongside the very talented Imran Ashraf. But because the pandemic put the release of the film on hold, we’ll soon be seeing Amar Khan in ARY Digital’s upcoming drama ‘Baddua’ with Muneeb Butt and Mohsin Abbas Haider in the lead.

The teasers of ‘Baddua’ have already been released on ARY Digital and from the looks of it, this one will be a rather interesting watch, presenting Amar in a never seen before avatar. In the teasers the channel has revealed so far, Amar as Abeer is fearless, strong, mischievous and determined to spend her life on her own terms. Muneeb Butt looks very much like the Casanova.

Amar Khan Spills the Deets On ‘Baddua

‘Baddua’ has been directed by Syed Ramish Rizvi and is an iDream Entertainment Production for ARY Digital.

Talking to Galaxy Lollywood exclusively, Amar shared that the character traits for Abeer were the main reason she opted for the drama. “The traits that Abeer has, she’s strong and has a voice of her own, are a few things that incited me about this character. A strong girl is a rare phenomenon that you see on screen these days. She’s a girl who prioritizes her dreams, she’s spunky, she’s a fanatic, she’s flirtatious. Basically, Abeer is one character with so many shades. Something entirely different from what I did in ‘Qayamat’, so I went for it,” said Amar.

Talking about how it was working with Muneeb Butt and Mohsin Abbas Haider both, Amar added, “Mohsin Abbas Haider is known for his versatility and his passion for acting and I believe he’s done a terrific job on sets. It was amazing working with him.”

“Muneeb is returning back as a casanova after a very long time. His character too is very strong-headed but both of us are playing contrasting characters, so it was a rewarding experience shooting for it,” said Amar adding how she was excited and satisfied about her first collaboration with ARY Digital and iDreams Entertainment which had become a big brand in itself.

‘Baddua’ is starting from the 20th of September at 8 pm on ARY Digital. The drama will be replacing the much loved ‘Pardes’ which means it already has a big bar set against to meet and entertain the audiences.

Ayesha Omar And Azfar Rehman Come Together For A Drama After 6 Years

Ayesha and Azfar

Whenever you’ll hear the names of Ayesha Omar and Azfar Rehman taken together, you’ll be taken back to the time the duo had a terrible accident on the highway. Even though Ayesha and Azfar have worked together in countless projects, ‘Ladies Park’ being one of the most popular ones, their fans usually remember them with the terrible, life-threatening accident the duo had, back in 2015.

Ayesha And Azfar Are Changing The Narrative Now

Perhaps both Ayesha Omar and Azfar Rehman have become tired of the narrative of being involved in an accident together and want to give their audience something new to link the two with. And so, the two will now be seen together in an upcoming drama for Hum TV titled ‘Bisaat’.

“Shoot for the project has already begun and it’s been a hell of fun,” said Ayesha Omar, while talking to Galaxy Lollywood. “Azfar and I have known each other for ages. I’ve done a lot of projects with him. In fact, the last serial that I did, back in 2014-2015, was with Azfar Rehman only,” said the ‘Bulbulay’ starlet.

Adding further about her camaraderie with Azfar Rehman and the bond the two share, Ayesha added, “Azfar and I have travelled the world together, we had the best and worst times together. He’s more like family. We don’t need to meet to feel that love and connection and that’s why it’s always very comfortable working with him. The comfort is next level when I’m working with Azfar. He understands when I’m in a bad mood and I do the same.”

Ayesha Does A Serial After Five Years

Although Ayesha Omar has been appearing in a sitcom, ‘Bulbulay’, it’s almost after five years that Ayesha is doing a serial. The actress shared how she had been relatively busy with a serial for ages but decided to take up ‘Bisaat’ for old times sake.

“I didn’t have a time for a committed serial but when ‘Bisaat’ came along, things just fell into place. The drama, Fahim Burney directorial has an ensemble cast, which means that no one actor or actress bears the burden of the entire serial. The work is equally divided amongst everyone and all characters have an equal presence in the show, which for me, meant that I could still invest time with this despite being busy with other commitments. Also, the character offered to me is very interesting that I couldn’t say no,” said Ayesha.

Talking about her character, Ayesha Omar shared, “This girl I’m playing, she’s half Turkish and half Pakistani. She’s an evolved and emotionally mature girl. She isn’t reactive because of her emotional stability and that is how she deals with the situations around her. She doesn’t react and gets what she wants, which might perturb the other people around her.”

Adding further about the message ‘Bisaat’ would give, Ayesha added, “This is an emotional drama with a lot of positive subliminal message. The women characters in this drama are very strong. They do have their share of miseries but they will come out of it stronger than ever.”

Creators

‘Bisaat’ has been produced by Momina Duraid Productions for Hum TV and alongside Ayesha Omar and Azfar Rehman will star Mirza Zain Baig and Anmol Baloch in pivotal roles. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for further details.

‘Azmaish’ Concludes Without Any Twists Or Surprises

Azmaish

Pakistani dramas have always been extolled for their distinct topics and purposive stories. However, in present times, various drama serials project meaningless content without any sturdy storyline. One such example is ‘Azmaish’. The final episode of this show aired last night.

This play is written by Sameena Aijaz, directed by Fajr Raza and produced by Fahad Mustafa and Ali Kazmi. The cast of the show includes Shahood Alvi, Fahad Sheikh, Kinza Hashmi, Yashma Gill, Laila Wasti, Minsa Malik, Furqan Qureshi, Gul-e-Rena, Rashid Farooqui and others.

Story

‘Azmaish’ follows the life of a naive, angelic and gold-hearted girl Nimra, played by Kinza Hashmi, and her two vicious stepsisters Shiza and Samreen, played by Yashma Gill and Minsa Malik respectively.

There is nothing much in the story to narrate. The drama is primarily based on devilish traps set by Shiza for Nimra and her miserable mother Almas, played by Laila Wasti. Basit, played by Fahad Sheikh, belongs to a lower-middle-class family. He is an employee in Shiza’s father’s company. Her father’s role is played by Shahood Alvi.

When Basit accidentally meets Nimra, he falls for her at first sight. However, circumstances compel him to marry Shiza. The rude Shiza hates Basit who ultimately divorces her. Rohan, played by Furqan Qureshi, is Samreen’s first cousin and her husband. Gul-e-Rana is Shiza’s paternal aunt. The later part of the story takes an abrupt turn, Basit marries Nimra and Shiza turns against their relationship.

Last Episode

The last episode of the show has nothing exciting to offer. Basit and Nimra live happily ever after, while, Shiza becomes a complete psychopath and commits suicide. Here, it is pertinent to note that the middle half of the story showcases the constant attempts of Shiza to get rid of Basit and Nimra. Nonetheless, when she finally gets rid of them, she becomes a psycho to an extent that first, she tries to kill Basit and ultimately kills her own self. The writer never revealed the psychoneurotic shade of Shiza’s character. She has been shown as a rude, extremely clever and selfish girl but not psycho at all. The last episode introduces a completely new personality of Shiza, which makes her character arch odd. She actually hates both the characters during the entire drama, but in the last episode, she kills herself by saying that if she cannot kill the one Basit loves i.e. Nimra, she can kill the one Basit hates i.e. her own self. The writer has miserably failed in justifying Shiza’s death.

Static And Meaningless Storyline

This drama meets an end after about 60 episodes, each 40 minutes long, without any story at all. The play is merely composed of different traps set by Shiza for Nimra and her mother. The story bears a static graph.

The male protagonist of the show falls in love with Nimra, later marries Shiza, ultimately divorces her. Immediately after the divorce, he wants to marry Nimra like in the initial episodes and ultimately marries her.

Other characters in the drama have no story of their own. They are either at Shiza’s side or Nimra’s side. Even the hero of the drama has no individuality of his own. He is merely an object of the contest between the two female leads.

The story follows a typical track of an unbelievably good girl and an equally unbelievably bad girl. The screenplay is not inclusive of any character building. The writer has repeated the same events in different episodes. For example, Shiza exploits Nimra by making an alliance with Nimra’s father. She has done it twice in the story in the same manner and Nimra has believed her both times even after realizing Shiza’s ugly truth. The last episode repeats the same track. What the writer wanted to communicate through this repeated story is beyond the viewers’ comprehension.

Irrational Scenarios

Some dramas, although do not entail a convincing story, yet engage the audience by the dint of gripping scenarios and interesting screenplay. Dejectedly, ‘Azmaish’ bears none. Even the scenarios shown in all the episodes are illogical and entirely non-convincing. For example, the marriage of Shiza and Basit. Shiza has a fiance in the initial episodes. When her fiance refuses to marry her, only a few days before their marriage on account of her rudeness, Shiza’s father pleads with Basit to marry his daughter for the sake of his respect. Shiza’s father is a billionaire. The audience is unable to fathom how his respect can be secured in case her daughter marries his own poor employee?

Here, it is absolutely cardinal to highlight the issue of girl’s marriage in Pakistani dramas. Why do our dramas always showcase that a girl’s life will be ruined without marriage? Firstly, Shiza’s father got a heart attack only because he contemplated that his daughter will remain unmarried. In later episodes, the writer has written an exact scenario for Nimra. Although Nimra is highly educated and has a decent job, according to the writer, she can only settle down respectfully with her husband. This is the 21st century, the writers have to be more thoughtful and sensitive towards topics like women empowerment and their socio-economic role in society. Marriage should not be the ultimate goal of a female protagonist in every drama.

Redundant Characters

‘Azmaish’ drama has plenty of redundant characters. The writer has failed in drawing a strong nexus between the characters and the main story. For example, Basit’s brother and sister-in-law’s character is absolutely unnecessary and has no role in the entire story. Likewise, a considerable number of episodes include Shiza’s fiance and his family in major roles. These characters suddenly vanished and have no role in later episodes.

Even Rohan’s character has no individuality. His entire character is only present in the story to bear Samreen’s tantrums. An actor like Furqan Qureshi has not given any acting margin. Samreen’s character itself is nothing but merely Shiza’s puppet. It appears that the story has only two main female leads and other characters are merely there to fill screen time.

Conclusion

‘Azmaish’ did not impress the audience at all. Even in the 21st century, the majority of our plays are solely based on women’s rivalry. Woman against woman is the favourite topic of our writers. It is high time that our creators must focus on the actual story and utilize their capabilities in presenting meaningful and purposive content.

“I Rejected 15-16 Scripts Before Signing Nehar”: Areeba Habib

Areeba Habib in Nehar

HUM TV Productions has lined up a new drama, ‘Nehar’, with a promising cast, starring ‘Mushk’s’ Osama Tahir, ‘Fitrat’ Saboor Aly, ‘Koi Chand Rakh’ Areeba Habib and TV Host/Comedian turned actor Syed Shafaat Ali. The story has been written by Soofia Khurram. She is known for writing the screenplay of ‘Log Kya Kahengay’. The drama is helmed by ‘Meri Guriya’ director Ali Hassan and produced by Momina Duraid.

Telling us some interesting details, Areeba Habib exclusively spoke about ‘Nehar’ and her character to Galaxy Lollywood.

Areeba’s Words

She revealed that “it’s a story based on two sisters”, but clarified that it’s not a generic “sister rivalry” drama, instead it’s focusing on what they both go through individually, their parents’ influence on their lives and discusses the social issue of dowry (jahez). At times like these when dramas have a huge impact on our society, it’ll be interesting to see their take on this pivotal issue.

Talking about her character, Komal, she said that she plays the sister of Saboor Aly’s character. In terms of personality, she described her as “calm, polite and understanding”, adding that she takes care of her family’s needs and feelings.

The actress said: “I had rejected 15-16 scripts before signing ‘Nehar’ because I was getting similar roles after working in ‘Jalan’. In fact, even in this drama, I am playing a shade of my character from ‘Jalan’. I only agreed to this script because it talks about how women are suppressed after marriage, they don’t stand up for their rights, as well as their struggle after moving to their in-laws’ home.”

The actress added that she is yet to shoot with Saboor Aly and Osama Tahir. On working with Syed Shafaat Ali, she said: “It has been a brilliant experience because Shafaat is a completely different person compared to how he is seen on-screen. He brings great energy on set. It’s a lot of fun working with him.” Talking about his character, she revealed: “He’s playing a very different and interesting character, and I’m sure people will have a love-hate relationship with him.”

The drama is currently in the shooting phase. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for more updates.

Later, Usman Mukhtar confirmed the news of him being a part of it by announcing it on Instagram.

Also, model-actress Meerub Ali will be debuting with this drama. She shared a few pictures with Yumna Zaidi on her Instagram and she mentioned ‘Sinf-e-Aahan’ in the caption. It appears that Merub might be playing Yumna’s younger sister or a friend in the drama.

It will interesting to see if rumoured couple Asim Azhar and Meerub Ali will be sharing screen.

The pawri girl, Dananeer Mubeen will also be portraying a character in the show, given the fact that she was also seen with Syra Yusuf, Yumna Zaidi and Kubra Khan recently.

We can’t wait to see a picturesque photoshoot of the complete cast. The project has raised our expectations with a stellar ensemble.

What To Expect?

According to the creators, ‘Sinf-e-Aahan’ is one of the biggest and most expensive dramas to be made in the history of Pakistani dramas on television. Revolving around females who go from being the weaker links of a chain to the strongest ones. The show will focus on stories of six female cadets with lives and perceptions of their own, bound by their love for the Pakistan Army.

It will be a unique story that talks about women’s strength but also depicts their weaknesses which they gradually but courageously fight with to become stronger i.e. ‘Sinf-e-Aahan’, the women of steel.

The drama is currently being shot at various locations in Pakistan. The first promo of the drama is expected to drop later this year. Stay updated to Galaxy Lollywood for more details.

Berukhi: Impressive Launch With Impactful Performances

ARY Digital’s much-anticipated drama ‘Berukhi’ aired last night. Written by Ghazala Naqvi and directed by Mohsin Mirza, it has a bunch of talented actors, led by Junaid Khan, Hiba Bukhari and Nazish Jahangir.

The cast also includes two fresh faces Umair Rafiq and Rehma Zaman, among veterans Rehan Sheikh, Usman Peerzada, NoorulHassan, Hassan Ahmed, Nida Mumtaz, Saba Hamid and Iffat Omer in pivotal roles.

Story

The basic plotline of ‘Berukhi’ definitely seems to focus on nothing new but the tried and tested formula of cousin marriages and family politics, but it’s the execution and performances that make it different and worth watching.

The story revolves around two cousins; Sabeen, played by Hiba Bukhari, and Maira, played by Nazish Jahangir. Sabeen is a sweet and simple girl who belongs to the working class while Maira is a spoiled and materialistic child of Sabeen’s rich paternal uncle Mansoor, played by Rehan Sheikh.

Kamran, played by Hassan Ahmed, is Maira’s maternal uncle who is twice divorced due to his roving eye and questionable characteristics. When Kamran’s cunning sister Nazia played by Iffat Omer forcefully decides Sabeen and Kamran’s marriage, Sabeen’s father Masroor, played by NoorulHassan, tries to deny the decision but Nazia humiliates and disrespects poor Masroor.

On the other hand, another family is introduced. Junaid Khan as Irteza is the only son of Aghas, the business tycoon. Agha Jan, played by Usman Peerzada, and Aiya Jan, played by Saba Hamid, love their only child very much and are very sensitive about him. Aiya Jan is quite a superstitious woman, who believes that her dreams will come true. During a family conversation, Agha Jan gets a heart attack and while lying on the hospital bed, he makes Irteza promise that he will marry soon.

The Teaser Of Upcoming Episode

The teaser promo of the upcoming episode shows the tragic death of Sabeen’s father, who could not bear the disrespect from his sister-in-law. Nazia will continue with her vicious plans to make Sabeen get married to Kamran. But it will be interesting to see how Sabeen and Irteza meet and fall for each other.

Performances

Even the most typical dramas are often saved by the performances. Just when we were not ready to take family politics anymore, the impactful performances by the talented actors made us watch it for some more time. All the veterans are very convincing in their respective roles and that is a delight in itself.

Despite the fact that Junaid Khan, Hiba Bukhari, and Nazish Jahangir are type cast here with Hiba being the sweet and simple girl from a middle-class family, Junaid Khan plays the role of a charming and responsible man and Nazish Jahangir’s character is shown to be toxic and cunning, their performances were still impactful.

It was even more refreshing to see fresh faces showcasing their talents on screen. Umair Rafiq as Nabeel, the struggling young boy, and Rehma Zaman as the kind and sensible girl, both have indeed great screen presence and we really look forward to seeing them more often.

Direction & Production

After the success of ‘Beti’, ‘Bhool’ and ‘Log Kya Kahenge’, director Mohsin Mirza has come up with a simpler story this time, not revolving around any social message and not heavy on nerves or hard to digest. Produced by Abdullah Seja’s iDream Entertainment, the drama is made with a big budget.

Conclusion

Despite having a typical storyline, ‘Berukhi’ has managed to give us a slightly different treatment and of course some good performances to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Junaid Khan and Hiba Bukhari Hit It Off With Two Major Dramas

Starting today, the very dapper singer-actor Junaid Khan and talented Hiba Bukhari will be seen in two major drama serials on two major channels. Junaid Khan and Hiba Bukhari starrer ‘Inteha e Ishq’ and ‘Berukhi’ have started off today on A Plus and ARY Digital respectively and we’re definitely hooked.

While ‘Berukhi’ shows Hiba and Junaid together alongside Nazish Jahangir in a love triangle embedded with class differences and love, ‘Inteha e Ishq’ seems more like a drama revolving around family values and a trio of love again.

Inteha E Ishq

Written by Shagufta Bhatti, the drama has been directed by Dilawar Malik and produced by Khurram Riaz of previous drama ‘GT Road‘ fame. Junaid and Hiba play a newly married couple in the drama and how a past incident affects their newly married life.

Berukhi

Directed by Mohsin Mirza, ‘Berukhi’ is an iDream Entertainment production and stars Junaid Khan, Hiba Bukhari and Nazish Jahangir in the lead roles. The drama revolves around a love triangle that is majorly affected by class differences and deceit amongst relationships.

Over the span of his career, actor cum singer Junaid Khan has impressed his audience with his versatile performances in a whole lot of varying characters. However, Hiba Bukhari is yet to try on a different role ever since making her debut with the drama serial ‘Bholi Bano’. Hiba has been majorly seen playing an innocent girl in distress and even though she projects her emotions superbly, we would love to see her in a challenging character alongside Junaid Khan in either ‘Inteha e Ishq’ or ‘Berukhi’.

It will be interesting for their fans to see their on-screen chemistry.

‘Juda Huay Kuch Is Tarah’ Hurts Religious Sentiments With Controversial Narrative

‘Juda Huay Kuch Is Tarah’s’ latest teaser has created an online uproar. This is a HUM TV project written by Khalil-Ur-Rahman, directed by Waheb Jafri and produced by MD production. The leading cast includes Nabeel Zuberi, Dur-e-Fishan, Shabbir Jan, Farida Shabbir, Salma Hasan and, Sohail Sameer. The controversial teaser has been criticized for scandalizing Islamic injunction. In the said teaser, an old lady states that the marriage of Maha and Asad, two lead characters of this drama, is not valid as both are milk-siblings i.e. they have been breastfed by the same mother.

Actual Story

The whole scandalous scenario is totally dispensable. As per the actual story, Maha, played by Dur-e-Fishan, and Asad, Played by Nabeel Zuberi, are not Milk-siblings. Their vicious paternal aunt fabricates this story. She asks an old house help to tell the same to Maha’s father, played by Sohail Sameer, in exchange for money. The mother has passed away so the father believes the old lady. He even gets a heart attack.

Meanwhile, Maha gets pregnant, which further stretches the controversy. The teaser also showcases that an old man asks the house help to take a Quranic oath in order to prove her claim.

Viewer’s Reaction

This teaser definitely hurt the audience’s sentiments. Such sensitive issues should not be casually incorporated in stories especially when they are totally unnecessary. Moreover, the Quranic oath scene also did not go well with viewers. People took to the internet to slam this. It is extremely dejected that a popular platform like HUM TV is promoting such practices.

Conclusion

HUM TV removed the contentious teaser after receiving immense backlash and uploaded a shortened promo later on. Nonetheless, the controversial storyline is likely to cause more controversy in the near future.

Did You Know That Usman Mukhtar Had Initially Turned Down ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’ For This Reason?

Usmam Mukhtar As Aswad

Even though Aswad from ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’ is getting all the hatred for being so crude to Mehreen in the drama, we know it’s all due to the acting expertise of the very talented Usman Mukhtar.

Usman Mukhtar doesn’t need any introduction. Not only an ace director but an actor who knows how to deliver his best, no matter what character is entrusted to him. Recently he is winning hearts all over albeit a little anger from his audience for playing indifferent and blind to Mehreen, but it might come as a surprise to many that initially, Usman Mukhtar had turned the character down.

The Reason Behind It

“When ‘Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay’ was offered to me, I was a little hesitant to portray Aswad’s character as I felt he is too toxic,” said the ‘Sabaat’ star.

Adding further about his complicated process of choosing his characters, Usman stated: “I am generally picky too. A lot of people say to me too that why do you think so much before saying yes to scripts. Even my wife says, think about it but not too much as it’s just my work. I was also not comfortable with a few things about Aswad and even told the producers they could replace me.”

Usman Mukhtar also shared how as a responsible man and having a say on social media, he felt he had a responsibility to not portray scenes where Aswad was being too toxic to handle for Mehreen. “There were also a few scenes which required Aswad to manhandle Mehreen but I refused to do them and wanted to tone them down. I didn’t want the audience to see this and say if the hero is doing this, we can do it too,” said Usman.

Maybe A Different Ending?

The actor also added that he had later had a discussion with the team about Aswad’s character and suggested a few changes in it. “We changed many things in Aswad’s character. I refused to portray a violent character. The team cooperated with me and changed what I requested them to change in the script.” Giving the viewers hope of having a different ending to the drama than what the novel has had.

Written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Farooq Rind, ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’ is a coproduction of Momina Duraid and Soul Fry Productions. The drama stars Usman Mukhtar, Mahira Khan and Kubra Khan in lead roles and is currently winning hearts all over Pakistan.

Viewers Divided Over Slap Scenes In ‘Laapata’ And ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’

Laapata and HKKST Slap

In present times, people verbalize their views by dint of an accessible medium like social media. Netizens are particularly critical of drama serials and they widely vocalize their opinion. Slap scenes in recent episodes of ‘Laapata’ and ‘Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay’ created an online chasm. We will discuss each scene separately, coupled with disparate opinions held by the audience regarding both scenes.

‘Laapata’

‘Laapata’ is a HUM TV project. This drama is written and directed by Khizer Idress and produced by Momina Duraid. The show has acclaimed actors in the leading cast such as Ali Rahman, Goher Rasheed, Ayeza Khan, Sarah Khan, Asma Abbas and Rabia Noreen.

A recent episode of ‘Laapata’ reveals the psychological struggles of Daniyal, played by Gohar Rasheed. When Daniyal sees the picture of his wife Falak, played by Sarah Khan, and her cousin Shams, played by Ali Rahman, he gets extremely furious. Daniyal confronts Falak, during the course of this confrontation, he slaps her. Falak slaps him back instantly. This scene of Laapata has divided the internet where one segment is extolling this scene while the other segment is criticizing the same.

This scene has been extolled for portraying a strong woman’s character on screen. Even Gohar Rasheed took to the internet and revealed that he took up Daniyal’s character only because of this scene. He stated that when a fragile man treats you like Daniyal, make a choice like Falak did. Various people particularly praised the writer for writing a strong woman’s character, unlike other Pakistani dramas. It educates women against domestic violence. This scene is especially inspirational for women to stand up against any physical abuse at the hands of their husbands. Needless to say, Gohar Rasheed and Sarah Khan’s acting was phenomenal in this scene which definitely extended the impact of this particular scenario.

However, the scene has been criticized as well. According to some viewers, physical abuse should not be equated with physical abuse. People are of the view that domestic violence at the hands of the husband or wife should not be shown or promoted on television screens. People further vocalized that a man who physically abuses a woman cannot be pushed back in his boundaries by a counter slap. According to them, men are physically stronger therefore they might brutally harm a woman after receiving a slap from her. Some people even feared that this scene might influence the young female minds, who might practice the same in their own life which can bring serious consequences.

Nonetheless, domestic violence is a prevalent issue in Pakistan, a large number of women are subject to this abuse. Such scenes at least educate women that they can try to stand up for their rights. Undoubtedly, such a projection of a female character is far better than a submissive female who only cries over her husband’s ill-treatment.

‘Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay’

‘Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay’ is a HUM TV project. This drama is written by Umera Ahmed, directed by Farooq Rinnd and produced by Nina Kashif and Momina Duraid Productions. The star-studded drama has Usman Mukhtar, Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan and Haroon Shahid in the leading cast.

In a recent episode, Mehreen, played by Mahira Khan, and Aswad, played by Usman Mukhtar, get engaged. Mashal, played by Kubra Khan, unknown of their engagement, constantly calls Aswad, who does not answer her call. When Mashal comes to know that Aswad and Mahreen went out, she asks Mahreen where she went with Aswad. Agitated and furious by Mahreen’s replies, Mashal tightly slaps her and leaves the room.

A lot of people opined that this particular scene looks a little exaggerated. Viewers are not critical of Mehreen’s reaction. According to them, Mehreen’s character is of a blunt and vocal girl, she should have reacted in an appropriate manner. Some individuals stated that physical abuse between any gender should not be normalized. Physical assault between similar gender is just as bad. Netizens maintained that such scenes promote the use of physical force in arguments that could potentially negatively impact young minds.

However, a considerable audience extolled the scenes due to the execution, expression and intensity. According to them, this scene rightly projects the spiteful and insecure character of Mashal whereas, the stunned expression on Mehreen’s face coupled with her dolorous eyes showcases her broken soul which she camouflages with a blunt demeanour. People widely praised Mahira Khan for her poignant expressions and the pain she carried in her eyes. Likewise, Kubra Khan also received acclaim for playing a negative role so convincingly.

Brighter Future

Nonetheless, critical opinions by the audience, backed by a constructive discussion, is extremely imperative for the growth of our drama industry. People communicate to the creators through such debates, which consequently urges the creators to produce more convincing, relatable and appropriate content in future.
