Exclusive: “Mahira And I Are Not Friends But There Is No Problem Between Us Either”- Saba Qamar

When it comes to counting the best actresses of the Pakistani entertainment industry, Saba Qamar’s name has always been in the top tier of the list. For years, Saba has proved her mettle as an actress who is as charming when she is mimicking public figures in satirical news shows, as she is captivating in serious television dramas. But in the past couple of years, especially after her very successful stint across the border, there seems to be a new Saba in town.

Bold, vivacious, and most importantly completely unapologetic about everything she does, the Saba Qamar of now has no qualms showing how comfortable and secure she is being at the top. And when this Baaghi Saba Qamar 2.0 came as a guest on the latest episode of The Munshi Show, lots of mysteries about her life were revealed including, but not limited to, her equation with the other superstar of the industry – Mahira Khan.

When Saba Qamar sat on the couch of The Munshi Show, everything from her comfortable hoodie to her casual, sitting cross-legged-on-the-sofa posture mirrored her unapologetic and confident mood. Never known for mincing her words or trying to come across as diplomatic for the sake of being likable, Saba was completely frank in all her answers.

“Are you friends, are you frenemies, are you enemies – what is the scene? People want to know!” Asked the host, Momin Ali Munshi, bringing up Mahira Khan early on in his conversation with Saba. A question that does not come across as a shocker to anyone considering how often Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar get pitted against each other by the media, and social media, alike. A fact that Saba is very well aware of.

“We are not friends,” Saba replied with a nonchalant shrug. “But there is no such “problem” between us as well. Mahira and I have never interacted in that way before because we have never really worked together. People have made an issue out of nothing.” Saba said the last statement with a dismissive eye-roll.

“Mahira has her own place, and I have my own. No one can take anyone’s place. She is doing great work in her place, and I feel that I am doing good in my little world. Personally, I have no problems with her.” Saba gracefully and succinctly explained her equation with her media-created “rival”.

But that’s not all.

This confession was but just a tip of the iceberg in the long, no-holds-barred installment of The Munshi Show. Eagerly Awaited Drama Serial ‘Alif’ Finally Gets A Release Date!

Ever since Alif was announced a year ago, fans have been eagerly looking forward to watching this mega drama. And why wouldn’t they? Written by the phenomenal Umera Ahmed, directed by the hit drama and filmmaker Haseeb Hassan, produced by the dynamic duo Sana Shahnawaz- Samina Humayun Saeed, and boasting a megastar cast consisting of Hamza Ali Abbasi, Sajal Aly, and Kubra Khan, Alif has all the right ingredients in place for the perfect recipe of a blockbuster.

However, while the assurance that this drama will have everything the audience looks forward to in a quality drama has been intact since day one, the drama’s release date has always been a question mark.

Supposedly the show was to go on-air last year October, then it got shifted to December. Once December of last year rolled, a new tentative date of March/April 2019 was being rumored to be the show’s premiere, which was again shifted to a post- Eid-ul Fitr date. After so many speculations and rumors, it looks like the show finally has gotten itself a confirmed release date.

A September Release

Producer of the show, Sana Shahnawaz, has confirmed to GalaxyLollywood that Alif will go on air in September on GEO TV. While the exact date of release has not been announced yet, the wait for that won’t be long, as Sana revealed that the teasers for the drama are all set to go on-air post-Ashura, which falls on 10th September.

Considering the scale of the show, it is safe to assume that the promos for the show will be on-air for some days before the show’s premiere. Which means that Alif is looking to finally get on air by the last days of September.

The story of Alif was published in a monthly digest with its final installment published in July, and is also available in a proper novel form. This isn’t the first time Umera Ahmed’s script has both been serialized as a novel, and simultaneously being shot for the television screen. The Resham-Nouman Ejaz starrer Mon o Salwa had also gotten a similar treatment. So, while the story of Alif is easily available for the eager viewers to peruse as a novel, its visual adaptation for the TV screens will be a different experience altogether.

Final Word

We, like every other fan of binge-watch worthy Pakistani dramas, are eagerly waiting for Alif’s final premiere date. Watch out this space for all the verified updates regarding the most awaited project of the year.

“Mansha Does Not Belong To The Industry, And Yasir Is Overrated” – Exclaim Sadaf Kanwal And Azfar Rehman

Apart from being the hub of talent and flair, the Pakistani Entertainment Industry is often packed with various controversies, where another day calls for another controversy.

Yet again, the internet is abuzz with another video, where a talk show host asked his guest stars a question, and the answers happened to lead them into trouble. The video that we’re talking about is that of Ahsan Khan’s talk show ‘Bol Nights With Ahsan Khan’, where he had invited model/actor Sadaf Kanwal, and Azfar Rehman for a candid conversation.

Sadaf Kanwal vs. Mansha Pasha

The video begins with Ahsan asking a tantalizing question, “Wou konsi actress hai jiss ko dekh kay lagta hai kay isko industry mein nai houna chahiye?”The question itself was a big one and Sadaf took a moment to mull it over, when she asked Ahsan if he could give her any options to choose from, he replied that he didn’t have any. Sadaf then answered with, “I think, Mansha Pasha.”

The 26-year-old model/actress has always been open about her views and opinions on social media, so her gritty answer did not come out as a surprise, especially since the two actors had already been in a social media feud a few months back.

For those unaware, during ‘Tonite with HSY’, Sadaf Kanwal threw shade at women who did not speak up about sexual harassment at the moment it happened. To this, Mansha Pasha spoke against Sadaf Kanwal saying that women need to step up and speak better. Sadaf snapped back saying ‘Hum apko kapre pehna sikha dete hain, ap humay bolna sikha de.’

Azfar Rehman calls Yasir Hussain Overrated

Moving on, Ahsan turned to his second guest, Azfar Rehman, and asked him which actor he thought was overrated. The actor only took about a millisecond to answer and said, “I think Yasir Hussain is very overrated.”

While Yasir hasn’t replied to this statement as of now, but given how active he is on social media it won’t be long before he gives a cheeky reply to Azfar’s statement

Final Word

Although we believe that there’s nothing wrong with somebody civilly expressing their opinion as Sadaf and Azfar did, but isn’t it unfair to do so at the cost of someone else’s sentiments? After all the hard work and time Mansha Pasha has put into making a name for herself in this industry, is it justified to say that she does not belong in it? Moreover, Yasir Hussain has also been through numerous trials, tribulations, and controversies to get where he is today. Is it fair to put all that effort under the banner of ‘being overrated’?

Abid Ali Passed Away Last Night, And The Industry Is Shook!

Last night, veteran actor, director, and producer Abid Ali passed away in Karachi. The 67-year-old actor was rushed to Liaqat National Hospital for liver complications, due to a liver disease he was suffering from since the past year. Rahma Uploads a Video Accusing Her Father’s Second Wife

After the news of Abid Ali’s demise surfaced yesterday, Rahma Ali posted a video on her Instagram. The distraught daughter was crying and narrating how helpless she felt. Rahma posted the video to share with her followers that Abid Ali’s second wife, Rabia Noreen, had taken away his body from the hospital. Neither did she inform Rahma and her family about the address, nor the timings of the Namaaz-e-Janaza. Moreover, Rabia allegedly said: ‘Inn aurton ko meray ghar anay ki ijazat nahi’ in which she referred to Abid Ali’s first family.

Brace Yourselves: 5 Pakistani Films To Hit Cinemas In 2019!

If you have a perpetual belief that Pakistani cinema clutters its cinematic offerings on Eid only, you might want to reconsider that belief. The reason being the release line up for the last trimester of 2019. The films that we are about to mention, may not be grand offerings by Six Sigma or Filmwalas, but what’s interesting and encouraging is the diverse themes and genres of these films.

Below is a brief account of each of the film:

Daal Chaawal

Rease Date: 4th October 2019


Daal Chaawal is an upcoming film by Fun Club Production Company, which is a project by Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA).

The interestingly titled film claims to be inspired by true events and is intended to pay homage to the police and its martyrs. Although the film might seem to lag in production values, its storyline shown in the trailer still manages to catch our attention. It seems to portray a lot of relevant social issues like poverty, unemployment, and terrorism. And not just that, the film, of course also has a romantic angle to it.

Prominent names from the film’s cast include veteran artists Salman Shahid and Shafqat Cheema, along with Ahmad Sufyan and Momina Iqbal in the lead roles. Moreover, singing maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been roped for a special song for the film that has been dedicated to the nation’s martyrs.

Durj

Release Date: 18th October 2019


Shamoon Abbasi’s long-awaited directorial début Durj, follows a reporter’s wife who seeks the truth of her missing husband. The trailer of the film made the rounds of social media and caught quite a lot of attention.

The crime thriller is also claimed to be inspired by true events, and it depicts the concept of Cannibalism; an idea which has not been explored by the subcontinent’s cinema before. However, according to Shamoon’s claims, Durj isn’t just about cannibalism, it has other chilling elements to it as well, accompanied by a thrilling storyline.

A fun fact about the film is that the lead female actress, Sherry Shah, went an extra mile and shaved her head as per her character requirements. Written by Shamoon Abbasi himself, Durj is a film for those who are interested in eccentric cinema.

Kaaf Kangana

Release Date: 25th October 2019

Kaaf Kangana is Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar’s dream project, through which he intends to début as a director. For those of you who are unaware of Khalil Qamar’s work, he is the mastermind behind super hit films like ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ and ‘Koi Tujh Sa Kahan’ as their writer.

The film is a cross-border romantic drama, and it features celebrities like Sami Khan, Eshal Fayyaz, Ayesha Omer, Fiza Ali, Sajid Hasan, and Naseem Vicky. Moreover, Neelam Muneer is set to appear in a dance number in the film as well.

Kaaf Kangana was initially slated for this year’s Eid Ul Adha but was postponed to 25th October, for a worldwide release.

Talash

Release Date: 15th November 2019

Talash is a project by another debutante team called Zeekay Films, which is directed by Zeeshan Khan.

Set in interior Sindh, the film explores the idea of a commercial love triangle, along with the issues of child health and malnutrition, another novel subject for Pakistani cinema.

The lead actors in the film include Faria Hassan, Ahmed Zaib and Noaman Sami. Apart from all the newcomers, the cast also includes Sana Bucha, Mustafa Qureshi, Adnan Shah Tipu, Salim Mairaj, Mumtaz Kanwal, and Humaira Bano.

Sacch

Release Date: 10th December 2019

PTV fans from the 90s must be familiar with the husband-wife duo, who in the late 1990s, created hit dramas like ‘Ansoo’, ‘Des Pardes’, ‘Thori Khushi Thora Ghum’, and ‘Maa’.

After a long hiatus, Zulqifiqar Ahmad and Tasmina Sheikh are coming back with their debut film called ” Sach”, an expat romantic comedy, which will also serve as the launchpad for their daughter, Elysée Sheikh. The film’s shooting is said to be almost over, and it will see a cinematic release on 20th December 2019. The cast of the film includes Asad Zaman Khan
Humayoun Ashraf, Nauman Masood, Fazila Qazi, Javed Sheikh, Arisha Razi, Sarah Razi, and Uzma Gillani.

What’s even more interesting about the film is that ace cinematographers from Bollywood including Kabir Lal, with films like ‘Taal’, ‘Yaadein’ and ‘Yuvraaj’, are going to be in charge of the cinematography of the film. Moreover, from what can be seen from the teaser of the film, the film already seems like a visual treat.

The Legend Of Maula Jatt

Tentative Release Date: November/December 2019

TLMJ, has without a doubt, been the most awaited film of the year, but it has faced a lot of rearrangements. At first, it was supposed to release on Eid-Ul-Fitr, but was postponed until further notice. Although we don’t have concrete information about its release, it is rumored to release later this year.

An Encyclomedia and Lashari Films production, the film is directed by Bilal Lashari in association with AAA Motion Pictures, with Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Abbasi, and Humaima Malick in the lead roles.

Two days ago, Rahma Ali posted a story asking the masses to pray for her father, veteran actor, Abid Ali’s failing health. The actor was scampered to Liaqat National Hospital in Karachi, due to a life-threatening illness. After the news of his severe illness surfaced the internet, everybody came as one to pray for the beloved senior actor.

The Death Hoax

Just last night, the news of Abid Ali’s demise started circulating the internet, and in no time the news spread like wildfire. Everybody, including celebrities like Asim Jofa, took to their social media accounts and expressed their condolences to the actor’s family.

But then what came out as a shocker, was a status posted by Abid Ali’s daughter, Rahma Ali, in which she clarified that her father was, fortunately, alive and well.

Yet, after only a few minutes, Rahma deleted the post which once again, led people to believe that Abid Sahab, had indeed passed away.

As the news was picked up once again and started circulating on various news channels, Iman Ali posted on her Instagram that the news was indeed fake. She expressed how disappointed and disturbed she was due to the fake news of her father’s demise spreading like wildfire. This is what the actress had to say;
