Zindagi’s Shailja Kejriwal On The Lifted Ban: A New Dawn For Indo-Pak Collaborations

The Bombay High Court recently declared an end to the unofficial ban on Pakistani actors working in Indian projects. This decision marks a potential turning point for Indo-Pak collaborations in the entertainment industry. Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Creative Officer of special projects at Zindagi — India’s pioneering channel featuring Pakistani dramas — shared her insights on the impact of this ruling.

While there was never an official ban, the strained relations between India and Pakistan post the Uri attack in 2016 led to a de facto restriction on collaborations. With the recent court ruling, questions arise about the future collaborations between Indian and Pakistani artists.

Shailja Kejriwal expressed her mixed feelings about the decision while talking to India Today, saying, “I’m scared and happy, both at the same time. The decision is amazing not only because we have been relentless in working with our counterparts from across the border but because I believe that our industry will benefit from different minds coming into it.”

Kejriwal highlighted the potential for growth within the Indian entertainment industry by welcoming diverse talents. “It’s not about offering artists from Pakistan or elsewhere an opportunity. The endeavour has been to grow our industry with talent from different parts so that different minds come together and create something interesting and new rather than formula,” she explained.

Despite the optimism, Kejriwal acknowledged the caution prevailing on both sides of the border. She said, “Everybody’s thrilled and happy, but it is sort of too soon or feels too good to be true. Everybody has their fingers crossed. It just sort of opens so many more windows.”

Commenting on the reciprocity from Pakistan, Kejriwal expressed hope, saying, “I hope that this judgment goes a long way in opening Pakistani doors to Indian films as a counteraction from their side. It will benefit both sides because Hindi films have a huge footfall in Pakistan, more than their own films.”

However, Kejriwal emphasized the need for comprehensive guidelines to protect projects from political tensions between the two countries. She stated, “Apart from this court judgment, there needs to be guidelines to protect films that are shot by artists now and won’t get affected due to political tension between the two countries.”

Reflecting on the impact of OTT platforms, Kejriwal highlighted how the digital realm has blurred boundaries. “South Asia is a huge market, and you cannot make anything globally now without giving South Asia due consideration,” she said. The emphasis on South Asian content on global platforms signals a new era of inclusivity.

As Zindagi has been a channel actively fostering Indo-Pak collaborations, including the creation of original content like Churails and Dhoop Ki Deewar, this lifted ban opens doors for continued creative exchange. The lifted ban represents a hopeful step toward a more interconnected and collaborative future for the entertainment industries of India and Pakistan and we’d love to see that happen.

Fawad Khan, Adnan Siddiqui And Hamza Ali Abbas May Join Selahaddin Eyyubi, says Humayun Saeed

“We don’t need supermen, we don’t need ironmen, we have got our real heroes and it’s about time the whole media industry started to shake the world a little bit [and] show what Islamic teachings really are,” proclaimed one of the Pakistani producers of the upcoming series, Junaid Ali Shah.

Superheroes have been absolute juggernauts at the box office for a while now. Whether it’s at the box office or on streaming services, they are king. Amidst all this, we have filmmakers trying to navigate this new arena and either struggling to do so or assimilating with it.

Just last year, the release of the new Doctor Strange film caused quite a ruckus amongst our filmmaking community since it took showtimes away from local Eid releases. But then came The Legend of Maula Jatt which showed us that we have heroes of our own, both fictional and historical, who can combat the audience’s thirst previously quenched by Hollywood films.

Shows like Muhteşem Yüzyıl and then Diriliş Ertugrul also blew audiences away and were incredibly popular in Pakistan. So, it’s quite exciting news to have a show like this of our own.

What We Know So Far

Humayun Saeed and Ayesha Omar had been associated with the production from its inception but Saeed, in an interview with Arab News, stated that not only he would be part of it but “other top Pakistani actors may also be part of it. Hamza Ali Abbasi, Adnan Siddiqui, Fawad Khan.”

The series is a Pakistani-Turkish collaboration, and the first season with a fully Turkish cast has already been filmed and has started airing. However, Pakistani actors are set to debut in the show’s second season.

Ayesha Omar revealed that our actors are supposed to attend workshops and learn the Turkish language before they begin work on the series.

Casting Controversy

In response to this latest casting announcement, actress Zhalay Sarhadi came forward to reveal that several actors were supposedly selected for the series after an extensive audition process but were then left in the dark.

Shaheera Jalil Albasit from Razia also gave an interview to Something Haute where she revealed that she was also part of this extensive audition process, but nothing came of it. The auditions were held in 2021 and she was selected among 60 people. She named Ushna Shah, Alizeh Shah and Arsalan Naseer being part of these auditions as well.

The Pakistani producers have yet to comment on this.

The series is set to film on a massive level in Turkey now with a prominent Pakistani cast joining the second season. This is an exciting venture for our entertainment industry which will open new doors for our talent. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for any further updates regarding this story!

Iqra Aziz Opens Up About Navigating Motherhood, Career And Personal Growth

An epitome of a modern-day successful working woman, Iqra Aziz left us impressed after shedding light on the real-life struggles of a new mother. In her recent interview with BBC Urdu, the actress had a candid conversation about societal expectations surrounding motherhood and how she manages to strive for the right balance between work and her personal life, after the birth of her son Kabir.

Iqra Aziz, who is currently being seen in GEO TV’s drama Mannat Murad, is one of the most celebrated actresses of Pakistan. However, this time the actress garnered praise for sharing her take on motherhood and debunking the age-old stereotypes that surround new mothers.

The actress emphasized that she is a family-oriented person and wanted to have children. She discussed that despite the discouraging comments she heard around her, she decided to have an optimistic outlook on becoming a mother.

“Maybe the older people have traumatized us that if you give birth, then you cannot do anything else.”

She added, “When I was expecting no one told me a good thing. People would say that you can’t do this or that. You can’t eat warm food, sleep or even go out. Hearing this I would think about what is happening. Nobody ever said that if you cannot sleep, it will be worth it.”

Iqra Aziz tied the knot with the actor Yasir Hussain in 2019. The couple was blessed with a son, Kabir in 2021. While the actress was judged for her choice of starting a family at the peak of her career, Iqra said she stands by her decision and doesn’t want to be too ambitious about her career.

Iqra’s statements and experiences are assuredly relatable to most new mothers who are trying to juggle everything together. Iqra opened up about having mom guilt and shared an experience of that:

“The first time I travelled after leaving Kabir was really hard. He was 3-4 months old at that time. I prepared everything beforehand, yet when I was about to check out, I had a breakdown and was completely taken over with mom guilt.”

Iqra further added that she believes that marriage doesn’t end things and wants people to see that. She talked about how she was criticized for not working after giving birth, even though it was her decision not to do television and focus on social media campaigns at that time. She narrated that she took things one step at a time and started to work on her husband’s directorial project Aik Thi Laila, following her break after giving birth.

“Before I met Yasir, I used to work every Sunday. I started doing work from a very early age. But this was my choice, and now I want to relax and enjoy myself for some time. This is my first child, and I want to make this time memorable.”

Iqra also talked about her drama Mannat Murad and how she relates to the ambitious and happy soul part of Mannat and the fun she had on the set with her co-star Talha Chahour. Lastly, she emphasized that the drama depicts finding the balance between personal and professional life.

It’s truly inspiring to witness an actress embodying the spirit of our nation’s women with such grace, setting an ideal example of maintaining a balance between her professional and personal life.

Style Déjà Vu: Saboor Aly Disappointed As Iqra Aziz Mirrors Wedding Look In Mannat Murad

If awkwardddd had to be a picture, we believe this would be it. The entertainment world just served us a steaming pot of drama, and guess who’s sitting in the centre of it? None other than Iqra Aziz and the minds behind Mannat Murad. In the latest episode, things got a tad too interesting as Iqra — who has garnered immense praise for her wardrobe choices in this show — was spotted wearing a look that seemed eerily similar to Saboor Aly’s actual wedding ensemble. Cue the awkward silence and dramatic gasps!

Expressing her disappointment, Saboor took to her Instagram Story to vent her feelings, shedding light on what she perceives as an outright mimicry of her most treasured memories.

She shared a side-by-side comparison of her real-deal bridal look and Iqra’s Mannat Murad escapade and wrote, “And how am I supposed to feel about this? My moment, my memories, my sentiments, my vision, and my look for the most special day of my life. My heart was put into every little detail of my entire look. However, there’s a difference between being inspired and copying. Special day copied blatantly.”

Now, we get it — Faiza Saqlain’s designs are like the holy grail of bridal fashion, but it’s not just about the dress, Iqra got styled to the nines, mirroring Saboor’s bridal vibes down to the last bobby pin. Talk about twinning goals gone awkward!

Saboor, whose wedding bells rang early last year, wore a resplendent gold attire on her big day by Faiza Saqlain. Her choice was a traditional gharara, adorned with a green and red border, complemented by a matching dupatta, pinned over her head. The accessories included a choker and maala set, coupled with a jhoomar and teeka to complete her look. Opting for subtle makeup, Saboor showcased brown eyes and a red lip, creating a timeless appearance fitting for a daytime ceremony.

However, the designer offered a distinct perspective, asserting their full rights over the dress and design. Faiza Saqlain addressed the controversy on her Instagram Story, stating, “There’s a lot of noise regarding a bridal jora that we made, and I just feel that this needs some clarity. I totally understand the sentiments that a bride might have with her bridal dress, but suggesting colors and some minor details does not give copyrights of the design to the bride. All brides customize, make changes, or come with suggestions for a completely newer look. Neither the silhouette nor the work is something I hadn’t done before, neither is it something that we came up with for the first time for that particular event. It’s a very classic silhouette being worn by many brides even before this specific design was created. It’s always the mixture and assemblage of crafts that makes the design a particular brand’s. I feel there wasn’t any need for this uproar, especially when designers do a favor and take time out to design time-consuming looks like bridals in return for neither money nor any other major collaborative benefits. This particular jora is completely an FS Bridal, and we have all the rights to sell it and/or give it for further collaborations.”

We agree that the designer has full rights to the clothes and to whom they collaborate, hence the scrutiny falls squarely on the stylist and the creators of the show in this scenario. Even the set itself seemed like a tribute to Saboor and Ali Ansari’s wedding. A familiar pool area, a backdrop that screamed déjà vu, and a design that echoed the groom and bride’s names. Coincidence? We don’t think so.

As social media is buzzing over this unfolding saga, the burning question is, will Iqra Aziz address the fashion fiasco she’s unwittingly found herself in?

Though this scandal isn’t just about wardrobe wars; it’s a wake-up call about the blurred line between artistic inspiration and flat-out copying. There’s nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from others. We live in an age where social media acts as a treasure trove of ideas, and it’s only natural for trends to crisscross. However, there’s a stark difference between being inspired and blatantly copying someone’s special day.

One of the reasons for the drama’s success was the honesty with which Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz played their roles of Bhola and Noori, respectively. Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the two, Bhola and Noori made a place in the audience’s hearts like no other.

As their die-hard fans, we hope to see Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz taking on a project together and seeing them in an entirely new avatar.

From Toxic Lover to Monotonous Repeat: Is it Time For a Character Makeover For Danish Taimoor?

An angry young man walks in, marching straight up to his girlfriend and demands to know who the guy was. The background music is loud and threatening. The girl is scared out of her wits, the boyfriend exhaling fire with every word he utters. Seems like it’s the end for the guy in the red shirt. Does the scenario ring a bell?

But wait. It’s not who you’re thinking of. This isn’t Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh we’re talking about. Instead, it’s Danish Taimoor’s latest drama Rah e Junoon. Not that it’s any different from what Danish Taimoor has been doing lately. It seems like the character of a toxic, young male, obsessed with the female in his life, is Danish Taimoor’s choice of character.

Why Do We Say This?

Minus only Chaand Taara, all the dramas that Danish Taimoor has been part of recently revolve around the character of a toxic male who doesn’t stop at any length to inflict pain on his counterpart.

Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi with Dur e Fishan saw Danish Taimoor as Shamsher, a besotted lover who went to great lengths to destroy the life of this innocent girl. He snatched her away from her fiance, made life hell for her, and insulted her parents, only for the girl to fall in love with him in the end and for him to repent.

Ishq Hai on ARY Digital saw Danish Taimoor’s good character turn toxic because he was denied the love of his life. The besotted guy went so far ahead as to kidnap his own girlfriend and inflict pain on her, just because he wanted her in his life.

Next, let’s talk about the not-so-old, Deewangi with Hiba Bukhari. This is again, where Danish Taimoor played a besotted toxic lover boy who was hell-bent on destroying the life of the girl he took fancy with and she had the audacity to slap him. In the same line, we have Ab Dekh Khuda Kia Karta hai where again, Danish Taimoor was a rich, spoiled brat who paid girls to do his bidding and when he couldn’t break one’s resolve, he took her to the altar and then left her insulted in front of everyone, without marrying her.

It seems Danish Taimoor has only been changing channels and tweaking stories a bit here and there but playing the same character in all his recent plays. He plays the repeated character of a wealthy businessman who falls for an unafraid girl from the lower middle class. The girl goes to lengths to defy him and he goes to lengths to make her life hell. It’s all been the same.

Whether this guy favors his grey streak or someone told him, he looks better playing the same toxic, wealthy rich man in all his plays, Danish Taimoor doesn’t seem to stop. What he fails to grasp is that portraying the same character in every play diminishes his versatility and becomes exceedingly monotonous for the viewers. Even the audience has had enough of Taimoor playing repetitive characters in all his dramas for quite some time now. Maybe he needs to take a hint now and focus on a different character or else, he’ll be stamped with the grey characters and soon lose his followers.
