‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ beats Waar and becomes the new Pakistani Box Office King

Bilal Lasahri’s Waar held the record for the highest grossing film to come out of Pakistan with the domestic business of 23 crore for more than two years. Since 2013, no film could come across Waar’s business, not even Bin Roye, Wrong Number or Na Maloom Afraad, none.

But guess what, Waar is no more Pakistan’s highest grossing film. ARY Films and Six Sigma Productions’ Jawani Phir Nahi Ani has broken the record by crossing 23 crores mark in less than a month. Although, the official figures have not yet been disclosed but reports started coming in on Wednesday that JPNA has reached 21 Crores. Note, these are not official figures but based on the reports we have been receiving, we report you that Jawani Phir Nahi Ani is now the highest grossing film of Pakistan.

JPNA released this Eid-ul-Adha and is still running all across Pakistan. We hope JPNA breaks the overall box office record too, a record that is currently held by Dhoom 3 and Fast 7, with a rounded figure of 25 crore on both sides. Fun Fact, Waar or JPNA; ARY Films still holds the top position.

Galaxy Lollywood will update their readers as soon as the official figures are released.

ROTW is not a war film, it is an issue based film but based on Pathans and revolves around their culture, something new in the industry. Not to forget, the sets and costumes have been designed by the art departments of Hunerkada College. The music of the film is done by the great Mehdi Raza. According to the Wikipedia page of ROTW, the budget of the film is said to be Rs. 1.5 Crores. The film is all set to release on January 16, 2016.

Sabeeka Imam Takes Over Mehreen Syed’s Snapchat!

Not many Pakistani actors and actresses interact with their fans. A good number does it on Instagram and a very few ‘official‘ pages exist on Facebook but the stars themselves don’t handle these pages (sad, I know).  Although, a few of the stars use Snapchat to interact with their fans. Snapchat is a photo/video sharing app which is instant, transparent and easy to use. These ‘a few‘ stars that do use Snapchat include Ali Safina, Hira Tareen, Mehreen Syed, Mooroo, Alyzeh Gabol, Amna Baber and a couple more.

IMG_2127Mehreen Syed, the super model, is someone who actively uses Snapchat and shares almost everything. From the first steps of her daughter to Ather Shehzad doing her make-up, everything. Recently, she performed Hajj and she even shared that experience.

Yesterday, Sabeeka Imam took over Mehreen Syed’s Snapchat. She not only went on to say whose her ‘Best Friend‘ but also whose giving who business tips. There is not only Mehreen and Sabeeka in this Snap but the hairstylist Aamir Naveed is in it too. Follow Mehreen Syed on snapchat, her username is: @mehreensyed

Heres a compilation of what Sabeeka posted.

Here are some photo snaps as well, don’t forget to follow Mehreen Syed on Snapchat.

Why A Film Like MANTO Was Much Needed

After a film ends, from the seat of the cinema to the seat of the car, people ask each other the same question, kaisi lagi? They go on to discuss the film, the good and the bad scenes. After watching MANTO, I asked my brother the very same question and he replied with, ‘Aisi film Bollywood aglay das saal main nahi bana sakta‘. He said this because every time a film releases, specially comedy or masala film, our nation goes on to compare it with Bollywood. Like they compared Na Maloom Afraad with Delhi Belly, Jawani Phir Nahi Aani with HouseFull and so on. If they don’t compare movies then the least they do is they say, ye tou Bollywood style ki hai, thanks to Hamza Ali Abbasi for this.

A film like MANTO was needed to be done because for decades Saadat Hassan Manto was not known as a great writer but he was known as a indecent or ribaldry writer of Pakistan. Parents and teachers wouldn’t talk about Saadat Hassan, all they would tell was ‘his books were banned‘. Therefore, a film like Manto had to be done, his life was to be shared, his writing were to be told, his hardships in life were to be told.

When was the last time Bollywood took literature to the screen and won hearts? In 2002 with Devdas? In 2006 with Omkara or in 2009 with 3 Idiots? But none of these films did what Manto did. People have started buying his stories again. Oxford press has started publishing Manto’s writing again. And above all MANTO has succeeded in portraying a positive picture of Saadat Hassan, something nobody could pull off this well. Also, there is much to Manto that is still left untold, MANTO – the film has only last three years of Saadat Hassan’s life.

After so long I have seen the cinema applauding and clapping during the end credits. This is a sign how much people loved the film and how much did they enjoy it. There is more that MANTO did which other films couldn’t, MANTO brought out people from all age groups to the cinema. There were kids, youngsters and then there were old citizens who could barely walk but were climbing the cinema stairs to watch the film.

So what did a film like MANTO do? A film like Manto portrayed the positive image of Saadat Hassan, a film like Manto portrayed his stories visually, a film like Manto conveyed Saadat Hassan’s message loud and clear, a film like Manto not only portrayed hardships in his life but also of the people around him like Safia Manto and Noor Jahan. A soulful music album, a talented cast, phenomenal direction and a great story outline….MANTO was a comlete package. Something worth double your money.

Manto Zindabad!

Box Office Update: “Jawani Phir Nai Ani” has a record-smashing first weekend

The film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ was expected to take a great start at the box office, but the mayhem that is being witnessed all over Pakistan is just crazy. The film received a tremendous response on its first weekend which is coincided with Eid al Azha. The film created new records by scoring highest first day collections (Friday), highest Saturday collections, highest Sunday collections and highest first weekend collections.

The film opened to limited previews on Thursday, a night before Eid, and scored 0.38 crore which is also the highest collection for single-day previews. The film scored 2.07 crore on the first day of Eid (Friday) breaking the record of highest first day collections previously owned by Fast and Furious 7 (2015).

The film witnessed spectacular rise in the trend as it scored 2.68 crore and 2.70 crore on second and third days of release respectively. Combining first weekend collections, which are 7.83 crore, Jawani Phir Nai Ani has made the record of highest first weekend collections.

The day to day collections of the film are given below (via: Box Office Detail).

  • Thursday (Previews):    0.38 crore
  • Friday (Day 1):             2.07 crore
  • Saturday (Day 2):        2.68 crore
  • Sunday (Day 3):          2.70 crore
  • Total:                          7.83 crore

Jawani Phir Nai Ani is on the roll and is expected to reach 10 crore mark in its first week of release. Let us wait and see which other records the film is ought to break or make in the coming days.

Box Office Update: The unstoppable ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ scores bigger numbers on Day 2

The film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ was expected to to take a great start at the box office, but the mayhem that is being witnessed all over Pakistan is just crazy. The film created a new record when it scored the biggest first day collections on Friday but it was the growth on Saturday that has taken everyone by surprise.

Quoting from the website box office detail ” Jawani Phir Nahi Ani  is having phenomenal run and is running to 100% occupancies everywhere. Film has become a nationwide phenomenon as there are extra seats installed at few localities to cope up with the demand. There are extra shows at many places, tickets are being blacked out. The next few days are sold out at most places and few places are sold out for whole week. Such things happen rarely in the history of cinema and in Pakistan this happened last when Chooriyan released in 1998.”

Therefore it should not really come as a surprise that the second day of the film brought in a collection of  2.68 crores. Add in the .30 crores from Thursday previews and 2.07 crores from Friday and the two day( + previews) totals to 5.05 crore ( Box Office Detail).

Thursday (Previews)           .30 crore
Friday( Day 1)                     2.07 crore
Saturday ( Day 2)                2.68 crore

Total                                      5.05 crore

Given that the shows have been further increased, lets see what Sunday has in store for the film.

All first day records shattered as ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ takes a flying start at the box office.

Writing this post gives me immense pleasure because finally, after the longest time, one of our home-made productions has managed to climb to the top while beating the Hollywood and Bollywood biggies which otherwise dominate the Pakistani box-office.

Yes, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, took an earth shattering start at the box office and has broken all previous first day records. The first day numbers for the film are being reported as 2.07 crores which is higher than the previous record of Fast 7 that was about 2 crores. (Box Office Detail)

For more details talked to Khurram Gultasab, General Manager of Super Cinemas, and he explained how JPNA is doing crazy business at all the Super Cinema screens:- “This film is doing a phenomenal business at all the screens. Even in places like Gujraat the film is playing to packed houses.”

He added that the first day picked up post 5pm due to the Eid rituals but as for today even the early morning shows are housefull. ‘ The show yesterday had 25 people in the 2pm slot but at the same time today the show has 240 people! So you can imagine the buzz for the film”

Looks like it would not be wrong to expect that the second day will easily cross 2.5 crores. We would like to wish the team of ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ all the best and hope that the film emerges as the biggest grosser beating all other International films.
