Box Office: ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ completes five successful weeks at the box office and still doing great

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking sites. We tried to get official numbers from the makers but the makers did not want to reveal the numbers. So until the official numbers come from the makers themselves or until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Moreover at times the numbers are revised to dont worry if you see a slight change in the mentioned numbers.

It came and it conquered!

The film ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ hit cinemas and from the very first day itself it became obvious that the film was going to register some big numbers at the box office. Almost all shows were sold out and the word of mouth was extremely positive. So it did not come as a surprise when the film showed great growth on the second and third day.

Moreover the film maintained its numbers on the weekdays too and seven days after it first hit cinemas one could safely say that the film was a success. It should be noted that despite the fact that the film released on a non-holiday week and had to face tough competition from a handful of past releases it still managed to make its presence felt. One only wonders what magic the film would have cast at the box office had it released on Eid-ul-Fitr as its common knowledge that any and every film released during the Eid festivities is bound to get a boost.

But the film was yet to show its real magic as it made more money in its second weekend as compared to the first week. This can be attributed to the positive word of mouth which led to the film getting more shows in its second weekend. Moreover the film maintained its strong collections and hence managed to score a big week two.

This third weekend was very crucial for ‘KSL’ as three new Pakistani films were hitting cinemas and the showtimes were redistributed. But of the three new films not one has been able to put a dent into the collections of ‘KSL’. While ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ being off beat films were never going to do much but even ‘DMPS’ is fizzling away in the background.

The fourth week also proved successful for ‘Karachi Say Lahore’ as it performed equally well as the Independence Day release’s ‘. It is not showing sign of slowdown as it has completed the fifth week and is entering its sixth week.

Here are the day to day numbers:-

  • Day 1: 40 lacs
  • Day 2: 75 lacs
  • Day 3: 75 lacs
  • Day 4-7: 1.8 cr
  • Day 8: 60 lacs
  • Day 9: 80 lacs
  • Day 10: 80 lacs
  • Day11-14: 1.3 cr

  • Day 18-21: 30 lacs
  • Day 22-24: 40 lacs

Day 43-49: The Eid releases ‘Wrong Number’ and ‘Bin Roye’ both cross the half century mark and are still going strong

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking sites. While we had the official numbers from ARY Films for ‘Wrong Number’ for the first few days now we do not have the numbers for either ‘Wrong Number’ or Roye’. So until the official numbers come from the makers themselves or until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Also the numbers are revised at times and hence you may find th numbers a bit different for certain days.

It was surely a clash of the titans as two big budget films were releasing on the very same day. Both the films had stars attached to them and the promotion/marketing for the films was a success as the buzz around them both was worth seeing. But what happens at the box-office window, well nobody can really predict. People thought that the Mahira Khan starrer would emerge as the clear winner given her recent escapades in Bollywood, but well the box office has a different story to tell.

It was evident from the first day itself that Wrong Number would be leading this box-office battle as it had registered huge numbers for the first day. Moreover it also managed to maintain those numbers as the days passed. A week after the release one could safely say that ‘Wrong Number’ not only won this war but had generally established itself as a ‘hit film’. Specially since it was holding up exceptionally well after the Eid holidays which proved that the film was being liked by the audiences and that the word of mouth was positive. However the biggest magic trick the film pulled was when it had a bigger second weekend as compared to its initial release. The international norm is that the second week sees a fall in the collections. But ‘Wrong Number’ not only maintained the collections rather it improved on them! It has already crossed the 10cr mark. It’s worth mentoring that except ‘Waar’ , ‘Na Maloom Afraad’, ‘Bol’ and Chooriyan’ no Pakistani film has ever crossed the 10 cr mark so it’s a huge achievement. The film has now grossed about 14 cr at the box office and has overtaken ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ while earning the spot as the third highest grosser of all time. Moreover the film held really well after the release of Karachi Se Lahore and added quite some numbers to the total tally.

Moreover ‘Bin Roye’ also is a winner in the sense that is has recorded good numbers at the box office. After a somewhat slow start the film picked up on day two and three and its due to this growth that the film had managed a strong first week. Moreover Bin Roye also held really well despite the fact that the Eid festivities had ended. Furthermore even ‘Bin Roye’ improved on its first week figures and shows a growth. Well the film has crossed the 10 cr mark at the domestic box office and once you add the numbers from the international markets this film has huge numbers. ( We will be doing a post on the Bin Roye international box office soon)

This fifth week was very crucial for both these films as three new Pakistani films were hitting cinemas and the showtimes were redistributed. But of the three new films not one has been able to put a dent into the collections of ‘Bin Roye’ and ‘Wrong Number’. While ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ being off beat films were never going to do much but even ‘DMPS’ is fizzling away in the background. Looks like both ‘Wrong Number’ and ‘Bin Roye’ are here to stay!

The sixth week was another surprising one as both Eid releases performed well. The films have now completed seven weeks and have crossed the 50 day mark and are still doing great business. Lets see what the eighth week holds for these films.

*Although the day to day collections are not known but this total includes the collections of the missing days as reported by the independent box office tracking sites.

We did ask some cinema people for their opinion and they maintained the same stance that both films are doing well but they did mention that ‘Wrong Number’ has been doing better at single screens while Bin Roye is  doing well at multiplexes.Well let’s see what the next few days have in store for both the films.

Lakhany Silk Mills introduces the elegant Ainy Jaffri as their new face at a special meet and greet event.

She may have been missing from the film scene post her last appearance in the 2013 release ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’ but the gorgeous actress Ainy Jaffri is back. Well she isn’t really doing a film but hey, even a fashion shoot done by the actress is nothing but a treat for us loyal fans and that is exactly what she has done.

Lakhany Silk Mills and fashion designer Farah Talib Aziz hosted a special meet and greet hi-tea at veranda Bistro Lahore where they introduced Ainy as the new face of the brand and also gave an exclusive sneak peak into the latest collection.

The event was a well-attended affair where Lahore’s prominent socialites and fashion personalities along with bloggers were invited to interact with the Lakhany-Farah team. Most of the ladies were seen in the new collection and the prints seem to be just perfect for this hot season. The food at Veranda was delicious as always and I made sure to take a break from my diet and fully enjoy the chocolate soup. The intimate event was manged by the  PR guru Amjad Bhatti.

Talking a bit about the collection, the campaign is called  ‘A Mediterranean Dream’  and this Mid-Summer Collection will be available at leading retailers nationwide on 5th September. The collection featuring seven designs, each in two colors is available for worldwide delivery via www.sticherry.com.

‘A Mediterranean Dream’ is inspired by the confidence and passion radiating from the Mediterranean women who exude a particular European charm alongside the grace of the classical Ottoman Empire. It is an ode to women of the region: reflective of the cerulean blue seas, the soft hues of the mesmerizing architecture of Mediterranean and the deep attraction of the Oleander flower.

Here are a few pictures from the campaign and the event

GL Exclusive: Swaarangi Will Be Releasing All Over Punjab!

By: Ibrahim Qutab

‘Swaarangi’ the Resham starer has been in the news nowadays. Earlier we told you the release date of the film to be 28th August but two days before the release, the PR of the film emailed that said,”Swaarangi Release Delayed-Film to release on September 11″. Not only that, the email also stated the reason of delay, which was

“Release date of the film has been changed as a gesture to support Pakistani movies already running in cinema. There are limited number of screens in Pakistan at the moment”

Little did we know the real story behind the delay i.e. Swaarangi got banned by the Censor Board of Pakistan. The news broke out on social media and it spread like fire. Resham’s come back film got banned was the topic of discussion. The film had been banned because

“for representing an ‘inappropriate’ image of Pakistan”

In reply to that the team responded with statements that said that Swaarangi has been shot in Pakistan and is based on social issues that do exist in the country. They also said that Swaarangi is a message oriented film.

GalaxyLollywood Excusive: Thats not all. Mazhar Abbas, the producer of the film, while speaking to GL Editor Momin Ali Munshi, exclusively revealed  that Swaarangi has been passed by Punjab Censor Board that too with zero cuts. Yes, Swaarangi will be releasing all over Punjab. It has been given the green signal and Resham fans in Punjab will surely get to see her on silver screen again. As for Sindh, the film is yet to be censored but Mazhar is fairly certain that the response will be positive.

What’s confusing is that the film has been complely banned in the Islamabad Capital Territory and cantonments while has been passed without a single cut in Punjab?

What do you fans have to say ahout this news?

Box Office: ‘Moor’ holds really well in week two, ‘Shah’ is decent while ‘Dekh Magar Pyaar Say’ is a wash out

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking sites. But until the official numbers come from the makers themselves or until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Also the numbers are revised at times and hence you may find th numbers a bit different for certain days.

This Independence Day was surely special as not one, nor two, but three Pakistani films were releasing all over Pakistan. What made this clash even more interesting was the fact that the genres of the three films were completely different. While ‘DMPS’ was a commercial film pegged as a romantic comedy, the off beat films ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ were a biopic and drama respectively. Moreover all these films had to face tough competition from the Bollywood release ‘Brothers’ as well as the past releases ‘Wrong Number’ ‘Bin Roye’ and ‘Karachi Se Lahore’.

The first day proved to be a success for all the films as each of them recorded great numbers. While ‘DMPS’ being a commercial film was obviously the one with the biggest collection, ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ also clicked with their target markets and recorded healthy numbers.

But once the first day ended, the audience had their feedback ready and this word of mouth was spreading like wildfire. ‘DMPS’ got bashed by both critics and the general public while ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ won laurels. This was clearly visible in the numbers as the collections of ‘DMPS’ fell while ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ grew. But since ‘DMPS’ had huge collections on the first day the first weekend was decent.

But the real fall for ‘DMPS’ came on Monday as it was left with about 30% of the shows it was originally supposed to have and this is not a good sign for a film. Even these shows were played to a limited crowd as the negativity had spread and nobody wanted to see the film. Thursday was the last day for the film as it is no more playing in cinemas ( except for maybe two or three screens ) and thus the film had a lifetime of only 7 days. This weekend was probably the last three days for the film at the remaining few screens and looks like this film will end on a 2.2-2.3 crore lifetime which means the film is a flop.

As for ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ they are strictly okay at the box-office. Yes, they were off-beat films, made for a certain section but still the numbers haven’t really been super-impressive and going by the decrease in shows it seems like the coming week will be the last few days at the box office for the films. A life-time of 1-1.25 crore seems to be on the cards for these films.

‘Moor’ has shown what magic the word of mouth is. The film started slow but picked up due to the positive reviews. Moreover the bigger surprise is that the film has managed to hold really well in the second week. Most people, us included, thought the film would not be able to make it past the second week due to its niche appeal. But proving us wrong the film has managed quite a successful week two and is going strong. A testament to its success is Lahores Super Cinema Vogue which had one show reserved for the film but had two shows for the film in week two. Shah is holding decent as well. But ‘DMPS’ as mentioned earlier is history!

Here are the numbers:-

Dekh Magar Pyaar Say

  • Day 1-3 Friday-Sunday: 1.75 crore
  • Day 4-7 Monday-Thursday: 0.40 crore
  • Day 8-10 Friday-Sunday: 0.04 crore (4 lacs)
  • Day 11-14 Monday-Thursday: 0.03 crore (3 lacs)

Total: 2.22 crore

Moor

  • Day 1-3 Friday-Sunday: 0.62 crore
  • Day 4-7 Monday Thursday: 0.23 crore
  • Day 8-10 Friday-Sunday: 0.21 crore
  • Day 11-14 Monday-Thursday: 0.20 crore

Total: 1.25 crore

Shah

  • Day 1-3 Friday-Sunday: 0.60 crore
  • Day 4-7 Monday-Thursday: 0.15 crore
  • Day 8-10 Friday-Sunday: 0.12 crore
  • Day 11-14 Monday-Thursday: 0.08 crore

Total: 0.95 crore

*Although the day to day collections are not known but this total includes the collections of the missing days as reported by the independent box office tracking sites.

We did ask some cinema people for their opinion and they maintained the same stance that both films are doing well but they did mention that ‘Wrong Number’ has been doing better at single screens while Bin Roye is  doing well at multiplexes.Well let’s see what the next few days have in store for both the films.

2nd Weekend Box Office: ‘Dekh Magar Pyaar Say’ is history while ‘Moor’ and ‘Shah’ are doing decent.

Here are the numbers:-

1. Dekh Magar Pyaar Say
-Friday-Sunday: 1.75 crore
-Monday Thursday: 0.40 crore
-Friday-Sunday:0.04 crore ( 4 lacs)
Total: 2.19 crore

2.Moor
-Friday-Sunday: .62 crore
-Monday Thursday: .23 crore
-Friday-Sunday: .21 crore
Total: 1.05 crore

3.Shah
-Friday-Sunday: .60 crore
-Monday Thursday: .15 crore
-Friday-Sunday: .12 crore
Total: 0.87 crore

Lets see what happens in the coming days. You stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood.

Fourth Weekend: ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ still the number one choice for audiences.

Looks like ‘KSL’ is here to stay!

Here are the day to day numbers:-

  • Day 1: 40 lacs
  • Day 2: 75 lacs
  • Day 3: 75 lacs
  • Day 4-7: 1.8 cr
  • Day 8: 60 lacs
  • Day 9: 80 lacs
  • Day 10: 80 lacs
  • Day11-14: 1.3 cr
  • Day15-17: 75 lacs
  • Day 18-21: 30 lacs
  • Day 22-24: 40 lacs

Total: 8.65 cr

Lets see how the film holds in the coming days. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for updates.

Day 36-38: Both ‘Wrong Number’ and ‘Bin Roye’ have a good sixth weekend.
