Here’s why we need to talk about Geeti & Nafeesa’s unique bond in ‘Do Bol’

While all the dramas being aired nowadays portray many different genres, Do Bol has people glued to the screens despite its stereotypical story.

Background Story

The story revolves around Geeti (Hira Salman), the only child of Iqbal (Mehmood Aslam). Iqbal’s first wife & Geeti’s mother, Jahan Ara had left him and his daughter which turns Iqbal’s behaviour hostile towards his own daughter. Due to his bitter nature, Geeti shares a strained relationship with her father. Iqbal remarries, shortly after his divorce, to Nafeesa (Zainab Qayoom). Despite being a stepmother to Geeti and fully aware of the fact that she can not bear a child, Nafeesa loves and cares for her like her own daughter.

At the same time, Iqbal’s manager & personal assistant, Badar (Affan Waheed) is shown to be secretly in love with Geeti.

Geeti & Nafeesa’s unique bond

While the storyline of the drama mainly focuses on Geeti & Badar’s relationship, the bond between Geeti & her stepmother, Nafeesa is what intrigued me the most. It was so refreshing to see such kind of an attachment between a step mother & daughter.

Due to her father’s attitude, Geeti’s nature becomes rebellious and outspoken. Her only voice of reason in the whole household is Nafeesa. On the other hand, when Geeti asks her step mother about Jahan Ara, Nafeesa speaks about Jahan Ara with a lot of regard which makes one wonder why her husband and in laws share a different perspective.

Nafeesa’s love for Geeti is heartwarming especially when Geeti addresses her as the world’s best stepmother, Nafeesa corrects her by saying she is Geeti’s mother. Iqbal believes Geeti has all the luxuries in the world but time and again, Nafeesa reminds Iqbal that worldly possessions don’t matter as a daughter is missing her father’s love. The way Nafeesa protects Geeti from her father’s anger, taunts and covering up for her mistakes is only something a real mother does.

The story progresses and Geeti is married off to Badar due to unforeseen circumstances. Geeti and Nafeesa do everything in their power to stop this marriage but their efforts go in vain. The unfair decision by Iqbal leaves both Geeti and Nafeesa devastated as a beautiful bond between them is broken. The whole household becomes aloof to Geeti apart from Nafeesa who cries day and night for Geeti’s well being.

All in all, this portrayal of a stepmother and daughter is a delight to watch and it would be interesting to see how things shape up between the two as the story unfolds.

Miss Lollywood ki waapsi!

Sahibaan, Meherbaan… Zara dil thaam ke aur izzat bacha kar bethiye… kyun ki tashrif laa rahi hai Lollywood ki mashoor judgment ki rani, noor-e-nazar…. Miss Lollywood!

YES, I am back, my lovely readers. Aap ki favorite Miss Lollywood waapis aa chuki hay!

Uff, there is so much to talk about and so much gossip that I need to give you all. Main kahan ghayab thee these past five years? Well, that’s a story for another day, abhi kay liye I am really thankful to Galaxy Lollywood for giving me this platform again to connect with you and I am back to what I do best – gossiping!

The phappay kutni inside me has been so bechan aur beqarar to do chatpati gupshup, gossip, the postmortem of celebs and mauj masti with my audience, all these years. I won’t be leaving anyone or giving riayat this time; the entire industry will be under the scanner of Miss Lollywood.

Waisay, itna kuch khaas change nahi hua in these last five years that I was missing from the scene. Pehlay it was these old school Lollywood divas hiding their ages and now, it’s these stuck in their teens bachiyan who aren’t going past 24, guess some things never change. So passé! Also yaar, what is this?? Har aira gaira nathu nera is doing a film. I don’t like this, I DON’T LIKE IT!

But one thing has changed and that is social media. Uff kitnay accounts maintain karo aik sath… Twittter, Insta, Snapchat ya phir FB… OMG! Waqt kam hai aur zalil karnay walo ki fehrist kafi lambi, that’s why I have decided to limit my topics every week in my weekly writeup.

Khair just landed in Pakistan abhi after a kaafi exhausting flight and socha aap logon ko update kar doon. Will come with my first proper story real soon.

Karo mera intazaar, main jald hi aaon gii or ek baar jo bolna shuru hoi to phir waapis khamooshi main na jaoon gii. Bach kay raho, sab ki poll kholnay arahi hay, bold aur moo phatt, Miss Lollywood.

Miss Lollywood is a fictitious character.

Mehwish Hayat and Zara Noor Abbas steal the show in Chhalawa’s first look

The teaser of Wajahat Rauf’s up-coming film Chhalwa opens with Azfar Rehman expressing how he wants to impress Mehwish Hayat’s Bao Ji and Mehwish being all adorable, says that she will slap him and get the Shahrukh Khan out of him. With this exchange and the music that follows, the mood for the teaser is set – a colorful, lively, family drama which seems to be just the entertainer we need this Eid.

Mehwish redefined

It is an open truth that Azfar Rehman and Mehwish Hayat are great friends, they have always seemed to love each other’s company, both on and off screen. Keeping that in mind, we genuinely thought it would be a bit hard to convince people that they could play love interests, opposite each other, but their love track in Punjab Nahi Jaungi proved us wrong. And today with the teaser of Chhalawa  – Mehwish and Azfar prove yet again that they are a new on-screen couple to watch out for.

Seeing Mehwish, in this cute bubbly character, is a welcome change given her past characters where she hasn’t really gotten a chance to experiment with comedy. Her characters in Actor in Law (a journalist) and Punjab Nahi Jaungi for instance, show her as a strong female character and while we absolutely loved those, we are liking this fun new Mehwish.

The women steal the show

The next scene shows Zara Noor Abbas smiling and twirling, effortlessly. Zara, beyond any doubt, looks beautiful throughout the teaser making it hard for us to keep our eyes off her. Every shot captures her beauty perfectly and we are certain that this debut will mark her territory in the film industry. Moreover, we can’t wait to see Zara romance hubby Asad Siddiqui, on screen. Even though the teaser doesn’t show much on their track, we have our eyes set on them (can’t help our hopeless romantic selves).

That being said, the shots are beautiful and the teaser, overall, has a fun element to it. For me, personally, the girls have stolen the show. The guys, on the other hand, didn’t have much of an impact. In addition to Zara’s omnipresence in the teaser, Mehwis’s solo dancing shots leave you rather awe-struck (I know I was). Chhalawa definitely seems like a female-oriented entertainer, which comes off as a good surprise for we have mostly only seen Indie films being female-oriented; Cake for instance.

The only thing I have my reservations on are the glimpses from the title track for it looks like everyone is doing their own version of the dance steps. The choreography is done by Wahab Shah, who is remarkable at what he does so it makes us wonder what went wrong. We are just hoping that the full song turns out better, fingers crossed.

Lastly, the teaser reminds us so much of Punjab Nahi Jaungi; maybe because of the same main leads and the almost similar sets. Overall, the movie seems like an emotional roller coaster and we, at Galaxy Lollywood, are eagerly waiting to see this one.

Sohail Javed vs Jami: “It was a very direct hit,” says Sohail Javed

Almost a week ago, we reported on the whole Sohail Javed vs Jami fiasco that had been going on, for a month.

on February 18, Sohail Javed decided to take Jami to court over sexual harassment allegations. The former said that the latter had falsely accused him of sexual harassment just because Jami decided to read a letter out loud that didn’t even mention any names.

The story behind the letter

The said incident of sexual assault took place at Lahooti Melo in 2016 – an event organized by the Sindh’s culture and tourism department in Jamshoro. The victim (the name has been kept secret for her safety), later on, wrote a letter to one of the event organizers – Saif Samejo. It is reported that Jami forced Samejo to divulge the truth behind the letter so the latter handed the letter to Jami. The letter, written by a 19 year-old, artist was then read out loud by Jami at the same event in 2018 that shocked the audience, to say the least.

The letter reveals how she met the famous director who then took her to his apartment and later on, raped her. The victim then went on to share the trauma following the assault and how she coped with her.

Updates on the case

Jami’s legal team released a press release yesterday that stated that Jami will “contest legal proceedings against him, with full fervour as the Court passed an interim order dated 26.03.2019 for both the parties to maintain status quo.”

The statement further mentioned that the Court on the 5th hearing of the case observed that no one had been named or identified in the social media post under litigation and that the Plaintiff had taken it upon himself to institute proceedings against Jami. In simpler words, the court reaffirmed our notion of Chor ki darhi main tinka.

Anyway moving on, towards the end of the release, Jami’s legal team mentioned that they have full faith in our justice system, and the court order further instills their faith in the sanctity of truth.

“This is just the beginning of our fight for the countless victims of sexual abuse who suffer in silence. The victims have reposed their faith in the Court after yesterday’s Court Order and they are now coming forward in public and will also now initiate their own legal proceedings against their predator. Moreover, the truth is a defence to defamation and we will take this opportunity provided to us by Sohail Javed to unveil the truth in the legal proceedings initiated against Jami. We will further continue to fight for a just, safe and an inclusive Pakistan,” the statement further read.

As for Sohail Javed, in a statement to ET, he said, “Let me be very clear on this: I will not drop the case. We have been asked to maintain status quo. I’m just practicing my legal right. The other party is claiming that there weren’t any names taken but it was a very direct hit.” Guess, we’ll take Mr. Javed’s word for it. If he thinks the letter referred to him then we are no one to deny that, right?

The next hearing is on the 6th of April. Let’s wait and see how the situation unfolds.

Here is why Sheheryar Munawar is missing from Project Ghazi’s promotions

Project Ghazi was supposed to release in 2017 but then, it didn’t. A lot happened, the actors and the film crew worked in unison to improve things and the film is finally hitting the cinemas this Friday. Now that the movie is all set to release on the 29th of March, fans can only see Humayun Saeed and Syra Shahroz promoting it. Sheheryar Munawar has been absent through and through and naturally, there has been rumors going about his absence during the promotions of the film.

To clear the air, Galaxy Lollywood brings to you what Sheheryar himself had to say:

Live from Sheheryar

Upon being asked how he felt about it, Sheheryar showed his excitement towards the release of the film. He said, I am very excited for Ghazi to come out. Obviously, it is my work, and it is one and a half year of hard work. It is ridiculous the kind of things I have been reading regarding my absence (followed by a laugh). I love all my projects equally.”

As an actor, Sheheryar felt that he has given his blood and sweat to the film, and he wants to see how it turns out in the cinemas. (Reminder for the audience that Sheheryar has taken physical training for his role in the movie and has done all the stunts himself despite the bruises and injuries that came with it).

Moving on, he talked about the issue that he has been facing lately, which have caused him to miss the promotions for Project Ghazi. To put it in his own words, Unfortunately, the release date for Project Ghazi overlapped with my prior commitments, that’s why I haven’t been able to join the team on ground but I have been pushing the movie a lot through my social media. I am also busy working as a producer for my next film (that’d be Parey Hut Love).”

However, not all hope is lost. Sheheryar will be joining the team of Project Ghazi in Karachi for their promotions and of course, for the premiere. “I want to be there with my team,” said Sheheryar.

What to expect from Ghazi

Sheheryar wants his audience to be excited for Project Ghazi as it is a film based on “a different type of genre.”

“One of the reasons I signed up for the film was that the subject matter is such that it shows nationalism without any kind of hate on another country,” said Sheheryar.

Here’s wishing Sheheryar and the whole team of Project Ghazi the best of luck!

Did Mawra Hocane just hint that she was the first choice for Chammi’s role in ‘Aangan’?

Ever since the drama started its production, Aangan has found a way to be in the news for one reason or the other. From real-life romance and tension between the stars of the show to the drama taking forever to finish, and then once finally on-air, the drama being unavailable for viewing online – Aangan has continued to make headlines.

The latest headline made by the drama is that Mawra Hocane, who plays one of the main characters Aaliya in the drama, was in fact supposed to play another main character in the show.

What all happened?

In the second part of the two-parter interview with SomethingHaute, Mawra was questioned about how she bagged the role of Aaliya in Aangan. Those who have read the classic novel by Khadija Mastoor would know that Aaliya is the narrator of the novel, which means her character in the drama wouldn’t have been anything less than pivotal. It is here that Mawra revealed that originally, she had been offered another role in the drama.

Aangan was offered to me when Ehtesham bhai was shooting for Udaari. I had heard great things about him and wanted to work with him, more so after Udaari. But Aangan didn’t happen and Sammi started. However, I was offered another character at that time. I was never ‘Aaliya’ for Aangan.

Mawra didn’t say which character she was originally supposed to do and only commented, “Everyone is playing their character so beautifully now. If I had played the other character that I was supposed to do, I would’ve played it very differently.”

Why we think Mawra was referring to Chammi

Considering Mawra’s use of the present tense while talking about this “other character”, we can deduce the character she was talking about is of Chammi. Those who follow the show would know that apart from Aaliya, only Chammi is the young female character who is still a part of the drama. Every other young female character that had any pivotal part to play in the show is already dead. If Mawra was supposed to play characters that were ultimately essayed by Sonya Hussain and Hira Mani, why would she speak of it like the character was still an active part of the story?

This deduction of Mawra being the first choice for Chammi further gains credibility when we consider that originally the role of Aaliya was to be played by none other than Mahira Khan. Yes, this might come as a bit of a surprise for most people but Mahira Khan was supposed to play the central role of Aaliya in Aangan but she couldn’t do the drama due to scheduling conflicts.

Mawra playing ‘Chammi’ to Mahira’s ‘Aaliya’ is not a scenario that is hard to visualize. The two ladies have shared the screen as Lux Girls before. One can imagine how the makers would have gotten the idea of using these two leading ladies as the main characters of a show like Aangan.

Another case of mileage problems

It is just a little ironic to see Mawra talk about the character that she didn’t end up doing when she had so boldly called out actors for gaining mileage from projects that they don’t do. Sajal Aly has garnered so much praise for her portrayal of Chammi that even indirectly bringing up that character as not originally belonging to her doesn’t sound well-intentioned.

Nevertheless, we are just trying to decipher the mystery using the facts that we know of. This conjecture of Mawra being the first choice for Chammi might turn out to be false ultimately. But if we take all the puzzle pieces and join them together, the picture that emerges is very clear. We are just saying what everyone must have thought when they watched the interview – don’t shoot the messenger!

We really need to talk about Noori and Bhola’s chemistry in ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi portrays the many aspects of life in the most intriguing way possible. The three main leads of the drama; Iqra Aziz, Syed Jibran and Imran Ashraf all see life from a different perspective.

Some background on the story

Noori (Iqra Aziz), a street sweeper’s daughter, falls in love with Sahir (Syed Jibran) who is a local shop owner. A determined, hardworking girl, Noori works in a garment factory whilst dreaming of a future for herself and Sahir. While Sahir gets caught up in a mess due to a theft at his shop and lands himself in jail, Noori tries everything possible to bail him out. Although Sahir promised Noori that he would marry her, he has a change of heart and flees the country when he is freed from jail. This leaves Noori devastated and heartbroken.

Noori’s guardian, Amma Jannate, who had already warned her of the damage her decision would cause her life, decides to get Noori married off to Bhola. Noori, behest of the man she would marry, agrees to Amma Jannate’s wishes. Bhola (Imran Ashraf) is shown to be a mentally challenged man who falls in love with Noori at first sight. Clearly, Noori is shocked and upset and does not reciprocate his feelings. Noori and Bhola are also shown to have met before on a few occasions, but the change in the dynamics of the relationship leaves Noori in distress.

Noori & Bhola’s Chemistry

Pairing opposite each other for the second time, these talented individuals prove their mettle in every scene. While Noori upholds their relationship as mere friendship, Bhola is smitten by her beauty and caring nature, assuming he is in love with her. Indebted to Amma Janate, Noori leads her life as a sughar bahu and caring wife, yet not willing of a physical relationship with Bhola.

Adhering to her promise to Amma Janate, Noori’s small acts of kindness towards Bhola leave us gushing towards the couple. The way she tells him off due to his childish antics and then cheekily smiles when he gets upset, puts her hand on his cheeks and tells him she cares for him, while he blushes and tells her he finds her very pretty make us want to go awww. Bhola addresses his wife as Dulhan while Noori shows respect towards him by using words like “suniye Bholay jee.”

The couple share a love-hate relationship due to Noori still being in love with Sahir, not known to Bhola. Another cause of her demure and timid nature towards Bhola is due to his mental health. Noori’s  transition from a fun loving wife to that of an agitated girl is worth a watch. Bhola’s mischievous ways of expressing love to Noori mostly leave her recalling her relationship with Sahir.

The sorrow in her eyes and anguish on her face perfectly encapsulate the suffering she has gone through. While the small ups and downs continue, Things take a turn for the worse when Bhola due to his friends brainwashing him and an overdose of medication, sexually assaults Noori. The intensity and emotions between the two characters in this scene have been shown in the most impressive manner possible. The overdose causes him to act vulnerable towards Noori. He grabs her arm and looks at her with rage. The swap of both characters personalities from an innocent man to an enraged one and confident girl to a scared one; shocks viewers to the core.

The aftermath of the incident leaves Noori distraught and in utter disbelief. Spellbound for his love for Noori, Bhola tries to apologise to her at every chance he can get. Disturbed by the happenings, Noori avoids Bhola and his advances of reconciliation.

Sahir & Noori’s reunion

Noori’s former lover, Sahir also makes a re-entry in her life, which leaves Noori even more confused and disturbed. While Syed Jibran’s character Sahir has a charm of his own, it is Iqra and Imran who breathe life into Noori and Bhola’s unconventional relationship with their impeccable acting skills and leave the audience wanting for more.

Despite the fact that the relationship went haywire due to Bhola’s behaviour, we are yet to get a reaction out of Noori.

Will she return to her ex-lover or would she forgive and mend her relationship with Bhola?

On Sheheryar Munawar’s absence and unusual mileage problems: In Conversation with Humayun Saeed and Syra Shahroz

The last we spoke of Project Ghazi, we talked about how there’s nothing to talk about the movie owing to the complete lack of promotions from the team. However, things have changed for the better now and we finally have some good stuff to report about the film.

Galaxy Lollywood sat down with 2/3rds of Project Ghazi’s main trio, Humayun Saeed and Syra Shahroz, to talk about the film that is finally happening, films that didn’t happen but still get talked about, and why is Sheheryar Munawar only found on the posters but not in person?

On frustrations and excitement

Addressing the almost two-year long period when the movie was stuck as a product that was finished but not ready to be released, Syra said that it was a little frustrating for her as a performer. “You do get frustrated as an actor as you put in so much of your time and effort into a project.” But she clarified that the movie wasn’t stuck for the wrong reasons. “[The makers] were working on it to make it better and fix the things that went wrong. Who wouldn’t want that?”

Humayun agreed with this and added that he was genuinely excited that the film was ready to be released now, after a long delay. Clearing the air about the reports that he had been the one to stop the release of the film back in 2017, Humayun said that the decision was inevitable. “The decision of the makers was going to be the same. The news just happened to come out from my side first.”

Reiterating the need for the film to be technically sound, Humayun said that it was necessary that more time be added in polishing the film. He said that the film is of a different genre and it demands more finesse in certain areas. He assured that now that he has seen the newer version of the film, he feels satisfied with the improvements. “This is how it was always supposed to be like.”

On the current box office situation

Last time we interviewed him, Humayun Saeed had credited Bollywood movie Jab Harry Met Sejal for increasing the footfalls in the cinemas that had ultimately helped the Pakistani films in doing good business. However, with the current ban on Bollywood content, will it be difficult to attract people to the cinemas? Humayun stood by his words and said that the presence of Bollywood content does positively affect the Pakistani industry.

To put in his own words, “However, people have come to watch Sherdil and Laal Kabootar. So that’s definitely good news for the industry. I was personally worried it wouldn’t be the case but I am happy to be proved wrong.”

On the issue of producers demanding more share of profit from the distributors in this time when the local industry needs more financial support, Humayun sided with the producers. “The producer gets the last and the least share. That definitely has to change. There should be a flat 50% share given to the producer by all the cinemas.”

On the new Humayun and Syra

Considering the kind of larger-than-life, massy hero roles Humayun does in his movies, his role in Project Ghazi looks very different. When we asked if this was the new Humayun, the one who plays a fatherly, mentor-like-figure to someone younger, Humayun clarified, “I don’t know what impression the trailers are giving. But the film is very much a two-hero film.”

He added that he quite likes his character in the film and it is very different from the kind of movies that he personally makes. “This is the reason why I signed this film in the first place; it was because it is of a very different genre. The makers of this film have a very different vision and we should support that as it would translate to more diverse content being made.”

Speaking of different, Syra plays a scientist in the movie. “How often do you get to do that?” Syra chirped. Her character in the film is very essential to the plot as she not only plays a scientist, but she is also a key figure in deciphering the mystery that is going on. Syra will also be seen in a few action sequence scenes as well.

On regrets and unusual mileage problems

With the topic veering in the substantial role category, we asked Syra about getting mileage from movies that she doesn’t do. We were, of course, talking about her connection to JPNA2 where she was supposed to do a role that ultimately was played by Mawra Hocane and Mawra’s comments on the talk show One Take where she had talked about celebrities getting mileage from projects they don’t do.

Syra defended that it wasn’t her fault things happened that way. “Sometimes you say ‘yes’ to things and then halfway through things don’t work out so you end up not doing them. Saying I was offered the film is one thing. But the news came out that I had been a part of the film. I didn’t even put that news out there.”

Syra said that she agrees that one shouldn’t take mileage from films that they are just offered and they don’t end up doing. “At the end of the day, the film belongs to the one who has done it. All the attention should be on them but it’s not my fault the news was out there before I could do anything about it.”

JPNA2 was a blockbuster success so does she regret passing it on? we asked. “No. It has done well but I am very big on what I want to do. I always go with my gut feeling,” told Syra.

And with the star of that film sitting with us, we asked Humayun if he had any fears about Project Ghazi not being able to repeat the mammoth successes of his previous two films, JPNA2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi; the films that have made him a box office superstar of the country.

“Honestly, the kind of efforts and hard work that I have put in to make sure Project Ghazi releases is the testament to the fact that I have no such insecurity or fear.” Humayun explained. He added that he feels the same nervousness before the release of his signature films like he is feeling now for Project Ghazi. “Actors do all kinds of films world over. They do big festival films as well as small indie ones. They have different expectations from both the kind of movies.” Humayun said that who knows maybe this film will do even bigger business than his previous films.

On Sheheryar Munawar’s absence from the promotions

The complete absence of Sheheryar Munawar, who is the protagonist of the film, from the promotions’ scene is quite impossible to ignore. Has he really said Parey Hut Ghazi by consciously distancing himself from the film’s promotions? “I want to ask him the very same question,” Humayun laughed. Explaining Sheheryar’s absence as due to him being busy with some personal commitments, Humayun explained that Sheheryar had been facing a scheduling conflict which is why he couldn’t make it to the promotions this time around.

“Plus, he has recently gotten engaged as well so there’s that.”

On future projects

Lastly, we asked them was about their future projects – Love You Jutta and Syra’s untitled film with Shahroze.

“We are still working on Jutta’s script. The film will most likely not be happening this year.” Humayun said. That means Project Ghazi will be the only time Humayun will be on the big screens in 2019. As for Syra, her film with Shahroze still has some shooting left. “The last spell of the shoot will start soon. The film will most probably release by the end of the year.”

It isn’t the only other project Syra is working on as she plans on launching her own website. We commented that Mahira Khan already has her own website, Mashion, and now Syra is doing the same, is it some kind of way for putting other media portals, for example, Galaxy Lollywood, out of work? “No, but it will help you only in so many ways. Don’t you need inspiration?”

The conversation ended with our signature question – why should people go watch Project Ghazi?

“Because it is a different film. I don’t know many other Pakistani superhero films.” Syra replied. “Yeah, it’s a different genre,” added Humayun. “When have we ever gotten to see super soldiers dressed in Pakistani uniforms? This kind of environment and aesthetics have never been done before.”

Well, that is true indeed. We wish the team of Project Ghazi good luck and a great run at the box office.

Box Office: ‘Sherdil’ does well on Monday while ‘Laal Kabootar’ does decently too

laal kabootar sherdil

Two Pakistani movies; Sherdil and Laal Kabootar hit the cinemas on the 22nd of March. While the former has gotten mixed reviews from the critics, the latter has gotten some really remarkable reviews. Unfortunately, however, the numbers tell a different story. Sherdil has surpassed 4 crores while Laal Kabootar hasn’t even crossed 1 crore. Let’s analyse the numbers for both, one by one.

Sherdil

As GL had predicted, patriotism did sell itself quite well through Sherdil. Amusingly, 20 percent of the film’s opening weekend business came from the twin cities; Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Overall, Sherdil had managed to earn 4.15 crores approximately, on its opening weekend. As for Monday, Sherdil earned 50 lacs which is obviously less than the last three days but it is also understandable since weekdays generally gather less audience. It is safe to say that Sherdil was able to hold, not so unsuccessfully, on Monday. It can definitely be expected to hold during the rest of the week too.

According to EPK, here is the detailed breakdown:

Friday: 1.15 crores
Saturday: 1.7 crores
Sunday: 1.3 crores

Monday: 50 lacs
Total: 4.65 crores

Laal Kabootar

The film earned around 30 lacs on the day of its release which wasn’t too bad, given it mostly caters to a niche. Even though we predicted that these number might increase in the coming days, the opening weekend ended on the lower end. It was, therefore, crucial for the film’s performance to do well on Monday. However, it could only gather 12 lacs on Monday as compared to the 22 lacs on Sunday. Galaxy Lollywood‘s numbers expert, Zaryan Khawar, had the following to say, “Laal Kabootar is sustaining at the lower end. 19 lacs would have been a safer number for Monday but now, the film should definitely stay between 13 to 14 lacs during the week, and not go any lower.” But since the film has already hit 12 lacs, we are not too hopeful because according to Zaryan, the number is only going to go lower.

Here is the detailed breakdown of numbers:

Friday (includes Premiere Shows): 30 lacs
Saturday: 25 lacs
Sunday: 22 lacs

Monday: 12 lacs
Total: 89 lacs

Let’s wait and see how the situation unfolds.

Has the Pakistani entertainment industry lost its sense of humor?

Pakistani entertainment industry

The Pakistani film and drama industry is best known for the stereotypical content it produces, with the damsel in distress scenarios, family feuds, and bad romances. Luckily, the industry has now started expanding its horizon, by adding diverse genres such as action, crime, and horror to its list. Not only has our content gotten better with time, it is now being recognized and appreciated across the globe as well. While we continue to progress in other genres, it is comedy where we have started to lag behind.

Considering the drama industry, we still remember the comedy serials from old times. Not only did they have good jokes that people enjoyed, they also had a good storyline that made one anticipate the next episode.

Blast from the past

One such serial that surely everyone would remember was Aazar Ki Ayegi Baraat. Immensely enjoyed by the audience, the serial had such high ratings that it became a whole series and was then followed by three more seasons. Another highly appreciated comedy serial was Bulbulay, but what started off with a bang, has now become a drag. The serial seems to have lost its humor, with the jokes becoming wearisome and tiringly repetitive.

Another example would be Kis Din Mera Viyah Howega. While the serial was fun in the beginning, it made its way towards a downward turmoil, with repeated jokes, and the same torturous storyline.

So has our industry lost its sense of humor?

This seems to be the case with almost all the comedy serials being produced nowadays. Already being low in number, the jokes being portrayed as humorous, seem rather bland and flimsy. Our drama industry seems to have lost its comic aspect. Talking about our comedy movies, although high in number, they aren’t all high on good comedy. The jokes are either very badly portrayed or the movies don’t have a solid storyline.

One such recent example is the sequel of Na Maloom Afraad. Although the original movie was high on content, the sequel, left much to be desired thanks to lazy writing. Another film that could have been something else is Lahore Se Aagay, which though did well at the box office but owing to a weak main storyline, the film which had humorous dialogues and amusing situations did not entirely come out like the shining star it could have.

What our industry needs to do, is bring out fresh ideas when it comes to comedy serials and movies. Comedies are liked by audiences of all ages, thus they have a larger following. Bringing good content to our screens when it comes to comedy, seems to have become a ludicrous task for our producers and directors. Our entertainment industry needs to step out of the cliché stories and invent something new and original filled with humor.
