“Dukhtar” and “Abdullah” Are Selected For Screening At Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

It is indeed a very good news for Pakistani Film Industry. Two films, Dukhtar and Abdullah are selected for screening at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), increasing the count of Pakistani films being screened at international film festivals. Indian Film Festival will held in Melbourne, Australia from August 14 to 27.

Dukhtar was released last year in Pakistan and received favorable reviews. It has also made it to other international film festivals with most notable feather in its crown is being premiered at Toronto International Film Festival.

Abduallah, which is waiting to be released in Pakistan, was shown in a private screening at Cannes earlier this year.

Both of these films and an animated TV series Burka Avenger are selected in the category of “From The Subcontinent” for IFFM. Films from Nepal and Bangladesh are also selected for the same category.

But not only this, the list of notable guests also include our superstar Fawad Khan. Khan will be joined by other Bollywood stars including Raj Kumar Hirani, Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Imran Khan and Vidya Balan. It will be Khan’s first appearance at IFFM.

We wish both the makers of Dukhtar and Abdullah well and we hope this will open new doors for our films in international and Indian market.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan gets censored! Yes, the Bhaijaan will be coming to Pakistan this Eid.

Yes you read that right!

While Salman Khan fans can rejoice as they will get a chance to see their beloved ‘bhaijaan’ in Pakistani cinemas the makers of “Bin Roye” and “Wrong Number” need to up their game now.

Earlier our sources revealed that “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” would not release in cinemas but then apparently some hush hush meetings took place as reported but an Urdu daily and well the result is for all to see . The film was presented to the Islamabad censor yesterday and the film has received its censor certificate. This means that the film will release in Islamabad for sure. The Lahore and Karachi censors are yet to take place but it’s expected that the film will also be passed by these censors. It is worth mentioning that, although rare, it is a possibility that while one censor gives the film a go the other two censors might not but for as a film as huge as Bajrangi Bhaijaan it will either release all over Pakistan or will completely not release.

We talked to Momina Duraid of Bin Roye and she thinks that everyone should be given a fair chance and that the playing field should be leveled. She said “Although I think Bajrangi should release in Pakistan but the cinema owners should give equal space to all the films”.

Only time will tell what tricks the cinema owners have up their sleeves. We wish the makers of  Bin Roye and Wrong Number all the best and wish these Eid brings lots of box-office success for the local film-makers.

Why Na Maloom Afraad, not Waar, is the biggest Pakistani hit of recent times?

It was early 2014 when we at Galaxy Lollywood first heard of the film “Na Maloom Afraad” after reports came out that the film would be releasing sometime at the end of the year.

“Huh, another film that will never make it to the cinemas ” we thought.

“At least not until it gets postponed a few times” we said to ourselves while writing it off as another “on paper” project that was too ambitious to materialize.

However we were in for quite a shock when the film came out with its trailer, announced its release date and actually ended up releasing on the mentioned date. Though the buzz around the film was high and the trailer had won the audiences over but the sword that was “Operation 021” was still lingering over Na Maloom Afraad’s head. And why not? For the film ‘O21’ was bringing Lollywood’s beloved hero back to the silver screen after 2013’s mega blockbuster Waar and was touted to recreate the Waar magic.

Wrong Number Promotions: Hitting the bulls eye with the various activities and whats next for the team!!!

In todays age and time marketing your film is one of the most important things to do before the film hits cinemas. With the many advancements in technology there have been so many new mediums for advertisement and there is so much of information to be processed by the consumer that to grab the attention of a viewer has become a task in itself. To stand out in this competitive world and to get ones product noticed is not as easy as it was maybe a decade back. Furthermore the growth of social media over the last few years has further complicated things as the rules of the social media are ever changing and everyone with internet access has the power of having their voice heard.

Whereas the international arena has caught on to this trend the local market is yet to follow. The fact that the percentage of the budget allocated to marketing has almost reached 50% for most movies is a testimony to the  importance of  marketing. However here in Pakistan, marketing and promotion seem to be foreign words for our industry-wallahs as nobody has been taking it much seriously for quite some time now. However with the emergence of this new wave of cinema and the influx of educated well informed people we see the trend changing. Na Maloom Afraad started this, Jalaibee took it a notch higher and now Wrong Number is taking marketing and promotions to another level. Here in this article we briefly talk about the various activities done by the team and also talk about whats next.

This Dekh Magar Pyaar Say teaser is like a cheesy music video meets a lawn campaign

by Momin Ali Munshi

It was without a doubt one of the most eagerly awaited teasers of the year. And why not? For it was not only bringing back the gorgeous Humaima Malick back to the local screens but it also marked the debut of the hot restaurateur who happens to be the grandson of the legendary singer Noor Jehan. Hopes were set high and anticipation levels were touching the roof as the clock struck 11 and the teaser was finally made public. But what followed, although did manage to “tease” the audience, but was highly unimpressive and served as  a lackluster first look for one of the most eagerly awaited films.

Bin Roye is all set to conquer Bollywood this Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Ever since the Zee Zindagi channel has been launched in India it seems as if more and more avenues for trade have opened up between the two countries. This Indian channel exclusively airs Pakitani content and has clicked big time with the Indian audiences. It is majorly due to this channel that more and more Pakistani actors are finding ground in the Indian arena. However ever since the Pakistani film revival movement has gained momentum we haven’t really seen a Pakistani film release in India. But that is soon going to change as the Mahira Khan starrer “Bin Roye” is all set to release in India and that too on the same day as its International release date.
