Bilal Qureshi’s Shooting Scene in Meesni is More Comedic Than Serious

Meesni shooting scene

It is a fact that 7 PM dramas on television channels don’t have the budget or the star cast and crew of other prime-time 8 PM dramas. Meesni, which is Hum TV’s 7 pm offering, is a typical family story that follows the common notions surrounding greed in our society. The latest shooting scene in Meesni has drawn public criticism for failing to look realistic and poor directorial standards.

Shooting Scene in Meesni

The shooting scene in Meesni is more comedic than serious. Waleed, played by Bilal Qureshi, is cornered by a local gunda and shot at point-blank range. While shooting scenes or feuds are often shot through a serious lens, this particular scene from Meesni draws more giggles than frowns. Written by Muhammad Asif and Directed by Sikandar Ali, Meesni does leave a few questions after this scene.

Using an iPhone Cover

The comedy of errors starts when Waleed is seen calling someone through an iPhone case rather than an actual phone. We understand iPhones are expensive and directors might not want to risk one during the direction process, but yeh tou had hogayi.

Poor Bilal Qureshi tries his best to not show the cover, but the blatant nature of the scene makes the job harder for him. Eventually he has to let go of it while falling down.

Unrealistic Fall

Not like we’ve ever been shot at point-blank, but one would expect blood to trickle or rather flow. We understand PEMRA has certain regulations on showing blood on television screens, but the very point of these regulations is to minimise the display of violence on screen. Not for directors to partake in the latter, without realism in the process.

Fast Recovery

Again, we don’t have experience with point-blank shootings, but we’re expecting it will take some time for Waleed to survive or even recover from one. While most viewers took Waleed to be dead after this episode aired, he was truly well and alive in the next episode. He’s definitely made of thick skin, which also could be a reason for zero blood loss in the afore-mentioned scene. Makes perfect sense now.

We usually cut low-budget dramas some slack, but the directional mess in Meesni is appalling even after doing so. We wish Waleed best of luck for what’s to come in Meesni, because if a gun shot at point-blank range can’t kill him, nothing else will.

Unexpected Marital Rape Scene in Tere Bin Hits a Nerve with Audience

Marital Rape Scene in Tere Bin

Needless to say, drama serial Tere Bin has left a mark on its audience due to its grand production, captivating storyline, and above all due to the chemistry shared on-screen by Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi. The excellent story has the audience swooning over every scene in the drama. However, much to the dismay of the audience, the drama took an unforeseen but rather absurd turn when in the promo of episode number forty-seven, the character of Murtasim (Wahaj Ali) potentially rapes his wife, sparking a heated conversation by critics and audience alike. The marital rape scene in Tere Bin has left many shocked and confused.

The Marital Rape Scene in Tere Bin is Contrary to Its Fame

The inclusion of the unexpected plot of marital rape in the drama has to a large extent dismantled the foundation on which the fame of Tere Bin rested, rupturing the impact of the drama and creating a feeling of uneasiness among the viewers. While the audience hopes and prays that the narrative is not directed towards domestic violence, it is imperative to acknowledge that the trust of the viewers has been compromised.

The entire plot is put to question making us wonder about not only the decision of the production house but also of the actors who decided to go ahead with the script.

Murtasim’s Sudden Shift in Tere Bin

The Nation’s crush, probably the most beloved character on Pakistani television, and to some extent a flawless human being, the character of Murtasim evolved from a feudal lord who falls in love with his wife and becomes a forgiving, kind man and in the process won the hearts of millions of viewers around the globe.

The one-eighty-degree shift in his character in the latest episode is not only irrational and groundless, but it provokes the sensitivities of many viewers. Had the character been depicted as grey, or morally corrupt, or one who was trying to fight an inner battle with himself trying to do good, a lapse in his character might have made more sense.

The Perfect Husband Goes Rogue

The argument that strikes the debate that Murtasim never changed; from the time when he slapped Meerab before their marriage to the present day seems a bit flawed. The character essayed no signs of a relapse and instead was the perfect husband that ticked all the boxes of a girl’s fantasy.

While the audience might forgive Murtasim, given the circumstances, the makers of the drama, rightfully so, might not get this forgiveness. Firstly, there was no trigger warning or disclaimer in the starting of the episode or no warning of viewer’s discretion. Even hints of such sensitive scenes can be disturbing for some viewers.

If the audience has only been misled due to the mere reason of sensationalism and commercialism, was it worth it? The drama has already been topping the charts and has been breaking records since it has aired, yet to add the element of suspense, just for views, at the expense of such a sensitive topic seems unwise.

While creative freedom plays a significant role when it comes to dramas and films, the addition of such plots only ignites controversies and brings down the audience’s trust in the makers.

Why the Marital Rape Scene in Tere Bin is Different from Other Dramas?

This will not be the first time that a Pakistani drama adds the plot of marital rape in the script, then why is Tere Bin being treated differently?

Over the years we have seen the discussion on marital rape stemming from Pakistani dramas such as in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and then Qissa Meherbano Ka.

While in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Bhola, is a mentally unstable guy who has been misled and provoked by his friends which leads to him raping his wife, in Qisa Meherbano Ka the character Murad, who sexually assaults his wife, is shown to be outright evil, with no moral compass. But in the world of Tere Bin, Murtasim is neither instable nor mentally corrupt.

The bottom line is that there is no harm in portraying a grey or evil character if they are portrayed as such. Murtasim is essayed as a hero and there is the likelihood of him being resolved of this crime in the drama. This leads to normalizing such crimes and desensitizing the public.

Trailer of Pakistan’s Latest New Political Comedy ‘V.I.P’ Leaves Us in Tickles!

VIP Trailer cover

The trailer for the upcoming Pakistani film V.I.P has just been released and despite warnings of the contrary we can’t help judge this book by its cover!

If trailers are anything to go by, this movie promises to be a complete bundle for enjoyment.

Blended Storyline Shown in V.I.P Trailer

The two minutes and six second trailer gives viewers a glimpse of the plot and we have it for you!

The trailer begins with Malik, a gangster played by Ehteshamuddin, who needs a survival strategy after the change in government. Saleem Mairaj (who is that?) proposes the idea of planting an ordinary man, influencing the elections to make him win, and then electing him mayor so that he can safeguard the wrongdoers.

Cue the “hero” — an ordinary man, who aims to be a barra aadmi [big man]. And then things seemingly fall apart for him and the gangsters. We can’t help but be intrigued.

The trailer introduces us to a few fresh faces; the leading characters are played by Zakaria Khan and Namra Shahid. Even the few glimpses of their dialogues — fleeting as they were — had has curious to see their on-screen chemistry. If only there were a few more shots of the jodi!

Good Prospects for V.I.P

Judging by his previous work Rana Kamran has a great eye for the camera, Na Maloom Afraad, Load Wedding and Quaid e Azam Zindabad are some of his finest works.

This time Kamran is making his directorial debut with new faces and the teaser immediately gave us Bollywood overtones, especially at one moment – where a hero makes his appearance on a Chaarpayi – well who doesn’t enjoy dance performances?

At first glance, the costumes and sets look appealing, yet viewing the same location in a television drama and a movie completely alters the atmosphere!

A Funny Bone Mayor in V.I.P Trailer!

The Mayor who appears in the teaser cherishes the perks of holding public office; the character portraying that he is endearing, witty, and an entertaining man. However, it felt strange to enter the government premises while wearing a white Kurta pajama with a yellow flower garland.

The V.I.P trailer looks promising and entertaining, however, experimenting with a new star cast is a risky business in our industry, we wish the makers and actors all the very best for their new venture!

Murtasim, Meerab, or Haya: Who’s the Most Toxic Character in Tere Bin?

Post an immensely successful run of 46 episodes, Tere Bin is heading toward a much anticipated conclusion. However, fans all over the world are still not settled with the uneasy circumstances of the couple they have been shipping for months.

One of the toughest hurdles in the way of Meerab and Murtasim’s happily ever after, as we all are aware of is the desperate Haya. Viewers took a sigh of relief when the story had turned surprisingly, and they sent her to the village.

Soon she returned and so had the bad times. In the latest episode, Haya is seen crossing all her limits while Meerab and Murtasim made some weird moves and viewers are infuriated over them.

Has Haya Crossed All Her Limits in Tere Bin?

Geo Entertainment’s Tere Bin is currently projecting the lowest phase for the lead pair as Murtasim and Meerab are separated and as per the teasing hints, they won’t be able to get together. However, we know that the show must have a happy ending, which is the only way to justify the massive hype of it.

As much disturbing as the current track, the latest episode shows another unpleasant sight when Haya hugs Murtasim from the back while he assumes her to be Meerab, who observes the scene silently standing at the side.

This has definitely enraged the viewers who want a better conclusion for Meerasim more than a justified end to Haya.

The episode has clearly suggested that the misunderstandings are not going to get settled between the two in the upcoming episodes which itself is quite depressing for the die-hard fans.

Murtasim, Haya, or Meerab: Whose Actions Are Worst?

Last night’s episode had us constantly comparing the central characters in terms of whose actions are worst. Haya hugging Murtasim from the back, Meerab slapping him, and then Murtasim apparently assaulting Meerab and leaving her crying; all three characters have dipped their hands in dirt.

All of this seems to be a rather nonsensical approach for executing a tragic sequence.
Giving creative liberty to these characters, we might want to assume that their intricate circumstances lead them to performing such weird actions.

However, provided that a lot of the misunderstanding drama could have been executed in a much better manner makes the sequence even harder to digest.

Such a writing shows how spineless these characters are portrayed to be, who have no brain of their own to decipher situations according to their own traits. Turns out, they end up contradicting their own personalities.

Love Triangle in Kuch Ankahi: Who are We Rooting For?

Kuch Ankahi love triange

When watching a good drama, one just loses track of time and physicality, for a moment forgetting where they are and what they have been doing. Such is the magic of a good television show. Such was the magic of Kuch Ankahi.

When Kuch Ankahi started off on ARY Digital, it came as a breath of fresh air. Light hearted comedy, a storyline worth appreciating and performances that reeked of realism. One after another Kuch Ankahi tackled tabooed subjects and brought about the best portrayal of female characters on television in a long time. However, it seems, now even Kuch Ankahi has been lost in the run of materialism, where makers are only focused on earning money and big TRPs.

Gradually but definitely, it seems that Kuch Ankahi is shifting its focus from shattering ceilings to becoming one of those run of the mill stories. What started off as a drama where female characters were strong and male characters their strongest support system, you now have a cliched love triangle building into it. Although we do like the characters of Asfar and Salman both, but we’re sad that with this love triangle, the original essence of Kuch Ankahi is getting lost somewhere.

The Love Triangle in Kuch Ankahi; Who Are We Rooting For?

While Aaliya has a positive impact on Asfar, we can’t help but talk of the chemistry between Salman and Aaliya. Salman can be seen jealous when Asfar drops Aaliya home, while Aaliya too can be seen taunting him for joining Sehrish’s office. We are rooting for Salman and Aaliya and wish for them to end together the way they started.

Not that we mind a good love triangle every now and then, but something as promising as Kuch Ankahi hasn’t been showing anything progressive in its recent episodes. It seems ever since Aaliya joined Asfar’s office and Salman sided with Sehrish, there is nothing in the show except the sibling rivalry and Salman and Aaliya being a pawn in the game.

Strong Female Projection

Even though with the introduction of the cliched love triangle, all hope hasn’t been lost for Kuch Ankahi. The drama is still bent upon showing some strong female projection and currently all our eyes are set upon Samiya’s character who is on the verge of turning those unfavorable circumstances into her favor completely. She has won over Saif Ur Rehman’s trust and will be starting off her jewelry venture soon.

Sofia is hell bent upon supporting Deepak and Meena through and through. She is one strong woman who has voiced her opinion and took a stand against the wrong. Alongside Sofia, we have Tanya with her iron will to be different and lead differently.

5 Wahaj Ali Dramas You Should Binge Watch Today

Wahaj Ali Dramas

He came and he conquered – Wahaj Ali has made a name for himself in the Pakistani entertainment industry through his charismatic personality and his above-par performances.

After his debut drama Ishq Ibadat back in 2015 he has slowly but assuredly established himself among top tier actors in the country. Currently, we are watching him in the drama serial Tere Bin as Murtasim and as Saad in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha.

Here are five dramas of Wahaj Ali you can binge watch.

Jo Bichar Gaye

Directed by Haissam Hussain, Jo Bichar Gaye is a period play based on the book ‘Bichar Gaye’ by Col. Z. I. Farrukh about the real events of war of 1971. The drama centers around three central characters, Wahaj Ali as Rumi, Maya Ali as Sonia, and Talha Chahour as Capt. Farrukh. The drama dives deep into complexities of war, the differences at that time between East and West Wing, the political movement at Dhaka university, alongside the consequences of war and brutality on the political, economic, and social landscape as well as the domestic impact of war on day to day lives.

Dil Na Umeed To Nahi

Another drama serial in which Wahaj Ali plays an imperative role in the life of the female protagonist is Kashif Nisar’s social drama Dil Na Umeed to Nahi. The drama highlights the societal issues of human trafficking, prostitution, child marriage, and child labour. The story is centered around the life of three main characters from their childhood to adulthood who are victims of trafficking namely Allah Rakhi (Yumna Zaidi), Jamshaid (Wahaj Ali), and Naseem Zehra (Fajar Khan).

Allah Rakhi and Jamshaid are neighbors and are brought up in the same village. Both are victims of ill fate. Allah Rakhi is married to a man much older than her who sells her to a brothel where she is renamed Sumbul. While Wahaj Ali is physically abused by his mother and his teacher due to which he runs to the city and also becomes a victim of trafficking and child labour.

Ishq Jalebi

A Ramzan romantic dramedy, Ishq Jalebi is the story of romance, family reunion, and light-hearted banter. It centers around Basim who is a young guy aiming to settle abroad and Bela who is a responsible and mature girl who lives with her grandfather after the demise of her parents. Basim and Bela are cousins in the drama who live in one house and have polar opposite personalities; while Bela is hardworking and optimistic Basim prefers to complain about every inconvenience in his life.

Wahaj is successfully able to establish good chemistry with every actor in the series and gives a measured performance without going overboard in any scene.

Ghisi Piti Mohabbat

In the dark comedy drama serial Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Wahaj Ali plays the character of Rizwan who is the first husband of the protagonist in the drama. The story follows the life of Samiya (Ramsha Khan) and her number of failed marriages and heartbreaks which leads her on the path of self-discovery and towards building an independent life for herself.

Samiya is a chef by profession while Rizwan is an internet sensation who is full of himself. When Rizwan and Samiya fall head-over-heels in love they both decide to run away to get married after facing objections from their families.

However, reality hits the newly married couple when Rizwan’s mother and sister do not accept his new bride and blame her for trapping their naive son. Wahaj essays the role of a selfish guy who refuses to take a stand for his wife and does not exhibit the qualities of a good husband. Through his performance the audience is convinced Wahaj is not a loyal husband which leads to sympathies for Samiya’s character and fury towards Rizwan.

Ehd-e-Wafa

Helmed by Saife Hassan, Ehd e Wafa is a story of four school friends, Saad, Shahzain, Shariq, and Shehryar who call themselves SSG. The story revolves around these four protagonists and their friendship with each other which has to stand the test of time. All characters have different aspirations and goals.

Shariq who is played by Wahaj Ali belongs from a lower-middle class family and becomes a journalist. He joins forces with two of his friends and starts freelancing journalism to unveil corruption and crimes in society. Wahaj wins over his audience through his expressions and depicts the emotional turmoil of Shariq as he tries to navigate his way out of poverty and goes through a rough patch with his sister while also making the audience laugh in the care free moments with his friends.

This brings us to the end of our list. Which of these Wahaj Ali dramas is your favourite? Do share with us.

Why Is Hania Aamir’s Maheer From Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha Such A Toxic Character?

Maheer from Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha

When we heard we had Wahaj Ali and Hania Aamir as the leading pair of Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha, we were certain nothing could go wrong with this one. It had all the ingredients of being a hit, direction by the creative Badar Mehmood, a Big Bang Entertainment production and an OST to absolutely die for. There are a few questions though regarding Maheer from Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha.

However, everything went south for Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha, once the story started unravelling on TV. Not only that, we came to know that the drama had absolutely no story at all and the leading female character was filled with toxicity. Although Hania Aamir portrayed the character of Maheer to the best of her ability, it has become a nuisance to watch such an indecisive female on screen, when women today have become decisive, goal oriented and more confident as a whole.

Maheer and her depression

Nobody with a sane mind could remain happy if they watch even a single episode of Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha. The character of Maheer is unnecessarily depressed. Nobody and absolutely nothing pleases her or makes her happy. She has that depressive look on her face which eventually trickles over to the audience. Looking at Maheer all you can get are toxic and negative vibes as if her ‘manhoosiyat’ will destroy you too…

Maheer and her blindness

No matter what Saad does, in fact whether this guy would die or lay down his life for this woman, Maheer will always remain blind to Saad’s love for her. I mean how stupid can one get. Women possess that sixth sense which allows them to judge if a man is interested in her but Maheer, she is blind by sight and by her mind as well. She has no idea about Saad’s existence and his feelings and regardless of Saad’s efforts, she fails to acknowledge his feelings for her.

Maheer and her unhealthy obsession for Areeb

One wonders why doesn’t Maheer just leave everything and go to Areeb when she cannot think about anything else other than him. The only thing that matters to her is Areeb and his feelings. What about Saad? How can someone be so toxic that they destroy absolutely everything around them just to fulfill their unhealthy obsession. And Areeb? Well he returns the sentiments Maheer has for him but then again, why can’t the two of them just throw caution to the air and be together when they are intent upon destroying every single person around them.

Maheer and her indecisive nature

We have not seen any female lead that is as indecisive and as uncertain about things as Maheer. A sane female who is married and has suffered so much in life, gets the sense of the world knocked into her but Maheer, nope. She is as innocent and indecisive as a lamb. Hard to digest when you have two men swooning over you but.. well, okay.

Although Hania Aamir has portrayed a number of strong characters over the years, but one wonders why is she repeatedly choosing such depressive and unhealthy characters in her recent dramas. First it was Hala in Mere Humsafar and now its Maheer in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha. We think the audience has had enough of Hania Aamir and her waterworks in dramas. Its time the lady does something new or else she stands at a risk of being typecast into the bechari roles she has been playing lately.

Iffat Omar Opens Up on Desire to Work in India

Pakistan and India have a diverse canvas of performing arts as well as a joint cultural heritage which has led to enhanced collaboration between the countries. However, the political differences and triggers which come in headlines across the globe time and again also affect the entertainment industry and the anticipation of their joint ventures.

Actress Iffat Omar, a renowned name in Pakistan entertainment’s industry, has opened up about her desires to work in India. Iffat shared she wants to work in India but she was never approached for a role from the other side of the border.

Iffat Omar Wishes to Work in India:

Actress Iffat Omar is known for her blunt statements and fearless opinions which she usually shares to her audience through her social media. The actress recently spoke about her strong desire to work in India. The actress made this confession in Had Kar Di with Momin Saqib. The actress bluntly expressed her desire to appear in Indian cinema.

Be it the complex characters in Bee Gul’s Pehchaan, Sarmad Khoosat’s Noorulain or Geo Entertainment’s Mannat, it is always a treat to see the versatility Iffat Omar has to offer as compared to her social media image. The actress has been part of successful projects and brings talent to the fore.

Indo Pak Collaboration

Indeed, Pakistan and India have collaborated for several projects over the decades. But as a nation, the fact that our artists are banned quite brutally from the entire Indian industry in a very brutal manner should not be overlooked.

When two countries having diverse history together collaborate for Art, they surely possess the capability to impact millions who understand the same language and who are aware of certain relatable factors attached. However, mutual respect should be the mantra that creates a better professional environment and eventually a better project.

Jubin Nautiyal’s Miserable Attempt at Kahani Suno Generates Public Ire

Jubin Nautiyal and Kaifi Khalil

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, artists often find inspiration in the works of their predecessors and contemporaries, recreating songs with their unique style and interpretation. However, not all attempts at recreating a masterpiece are successful, as was evident in the recent rendition of Kaifi Khalil’s 2022 ballad, “Kahani Suno” by Jubin Nautiyal.

Despite his exceptional vocal prowess, Nautiyal’s live performance fell short of capturing the essence of the original composition, leaving audiences questioning the need for such a recreation.

Jubin Nautiyal Lacks the Soft, Mellow Tone of Kahani Suno

One of the striking elements that sets “Kahani Suno” apart is the soft, mellow voice that beautifully portrays the emotions embedded within the lyrics. However, Jubin Nautiyal’s typically robust and dynamic vocal style did not align well with the song’s delicate nuances. His voice, although powerful in its own right, lacked the necessary tenderness required to convey the poignant narrative of the composition. This mismatch in vocal tone created a jarring contrast that undermined the song’s original essence.

Unfortunately, Nautiyal’s “Kahani Suno” performance appeared forced and contrived. His delivery seemed to be characterized by an excessive effort to put his stamp on the song, resulting in an unnatural rendition. Rather than seamlessly blending his style with the original composition, Nautiyal’s attempt came across as an endeavor to stand out, ultimately compromising the integrity of the timeless ballad.

No Personal Touch by Jubin Nautiyal

When artists recreate a song, they are expected to bring something new and unique to the table while respecting the original essence. A successful recreation retains the core emotions of the original composition while infusing it with the artist’s personal touch. However, Jubin Nautiyal’s performance of “Kahani Suno” fell short in this regard. His rendition lacked the innovative flair and individuality that could have set it apart from previous versions. Instead, it was a mere replication without any added depth or value.

Recreating a popular song is a delicate task that requires a deep understanding and appreciation of the original artistry. Artists must recognize the essence and purpose behind a composition before attempting to recreate it.

Recreating Songs; The Recipe

In the realm of music, the recreation of iconic songs is both a testament to their enduring impact and an opportunity for artists to demonstrate their own artistry. However, Jubin Nautiyal’s recent attempt at “Kahani Suno” fell short of capturing the essence that made the original composition a global hit.

The mismatch in vocal tone, forced delivery, and lack of a personal touch left audiences questioning the need for such a recreation. As artists continue to explore the rich tapestry of music, it is essential to approach recreations with the utmost care, honoring the legacy of the original while injecting it with fresh perspectives. Only then can these reinterpretations become meaningful contributions to the ever-evolving world of music.
